PC Retail box also DRM free?KWHCoaster05/10/2009 - 12:06

Hi all,

I have the WiiWare version of WoG and enjoyed it immensely, even though I'm still trying to finish the last two levels!

Anyway, I saw a WoG retail box for the PC the other day here in Toronto and I'm tempted to pick it up. Question is, is it DRM free like the download? Or is it linked to the STEAM site? I refuse to pollute my PC with DRM laden software, especially ones that need to phone home.

I'm tempted to get it just for the physical artwork, but a DRM free install would be a nice bonus.

Thanks.

DRM sucks.
2D Boy would never do that.

I'm not so sure, The game is distributed by a number of different publishers and some of these (Steam, Beanstalk Games, Greenhouse, etc.) do use DRM. I have no idea about the boxed release. Maybe it's best to wait for someone who actually bought the box to confirm/deny whether it's DRM-free (hopefully it's possible to tell).

I can speak only for the German box, but the CD in those contain an exact copy of the 1.30 installer from the website.

Well, I dropped by the store today planning to pick it up. Until I read the seal on the CD/DVD case:

"...Children under 13 years of age are not permitted to play. A valid credit card or time card is required for activation."

Needless to say, I'm assuming it is DRM laden and it is still at the shop collecting dust. Sorry guys.

A shame that the kiddies aren't allowed to play.

I have bought box version in Tesco store and it definitely contains some form of DRM - it is not possible to play without CD inserted into PC :-(
