I live in the UK, got my pre-order in pretty early comparatively and still i has no email. Worry not, all peeps who pre-ordered. You will get the game eventually. It'll probably turn up sometime in the night for me.

You would actually be able to download it even if you didn't get the e-mail, but honestly the server is hammered, averaging out on ~20kB/s here.

Would probably be best if we just let the e-mails run their course, any more load would be bad :P

Edit: Make that download crashed and had to start over because i was silly enough not to use a download manager the first time :(

Nothing. It'll reach you eventually. Right now they're sending 200 mails per hour. They're at the February customers now, so if you ordered after August or so you probably won't get it before tomorrow.

It just cancelled again almost done with the download, then when i retried it, it just "completed" because apparently the server is at full load now, so that just ruined my download a second time :(

darn, I came home from being at university all day, hoping I'd come back to see the email
sitting in my inbox, but no luck.

2d boy is going to be very rich judging by how many e-mails they have to send out,
and this is before it's officially released!

You always want to take it easy on indie developers, because they are generally expected to be a lot more 'cool' than those other developer behemoths some of us think are too big for their britches.

But if you say to your customers on your webpage, "Pre-order and you will get the game one week before everyone else" and don't mean it, boo on you!  I did pre-order, 6 months ago, and I won't be getting it one week before everyone else.  Maybe Tuesday, if I'm lucky.  Maybe Wednesday or later, if their email company can't handle it.

The point of doing a pre-orders is you want it ASAP and don't want to wait with everyone else.

I'm still thinking the game itself will be 'under-promised, over-delivered' in terms of quality and fun, but 2D Boy's handling of the pre-release is a big pile of poo-goo.

I agree.  The easy solution was, they shouldn't have stated it as fact if they couldn't do it.... don't over-promise and under-deliver.

I disagree... their websites are on a shared hosting, for crying out loud! A dedicated server costs from $50/mo, and VPSes cost even less. :(

I ordered in October, roughly 8 or 9 months after February (I'm not sure what day in Feb it was released and this is only a super vague approximate), which means (if this horribly inaccurate model is to be believed) I will get my pre-order 'early download' a minimum of 8 or 9 days after the downloads start, which is after the official release date  ??? laammee lol.

Of course that's really innaccurate because of changing popularity, but regardless I'm probably a little screwed seeing as I ordered two days before pre-orders closed.

I don't really have much right to complain myself - but I feel a little sorry for the people who pre-ordered to support the developer and show trust in the game from a very long time ago - for their trust and as 2D-Boys vital support base they aren't getting rewarded very well: with late 'early' downloads and missing out a chapter that europeans who buy the game after its been out a few months (in otherwords almost definatly not enthusiasts) will get (see the 'Moon Chapter' thread)

Well i'm a european but am i, or any fan, gunna wait that long to get the game? Hell no  :D even if they do have to pay more anyone who wants to play the game as soon as it comes out or has a pre-order will be forced to buy the game twice if they want the extra chapter, which I just think is a strange thing to force upon your hardcore fans?

I guess I just hope it's released as an expansion pack

I'm also waiting for the link and the waiting is like hell (I preordered 2008-07-21 :( so I'm pretty much out of luck) but 2D Boy are indie developers so they don't have big server farms like the "big guys".

The downloads routinely crash the servers whenever id software is releasing another demo/alpha/whatever so please don't bash our boys too hard.

I'm also not too happy about the Moon chapter situation... that decision was probably a bit unwise because it does "punish" the hardcore fans.

On the other hand, World of Goo is probably worth much more than just 20$.
Hell, I'm thinking about buying a Wii just to play WoG in coop mode :P
So even if I have to buy another version just to play the Moon chapter I don't have the feeling that it's a waste of money... the money will - at least partially - end up in the correct pockets so we can hope for another creative game. I can only repeat myself: I hope you guys get rich ;)

they have now worked around this problem - according to a blog update, kyle has got the bot using 4 download mirrors (hopefully temporary rapidshare ones) so speeds should now be up a bit...

No, the emails are sent in chronological order from the first to order to last. They aren't even at the end of March yet to the best of my knowledge.

Yes, a dedicated server would have helped for sure... I guess they'll have some when they release their second game... as well as a stable mail server... ;D
