Sspam bots everywhere lately!
Is there any way to stop this??

I recently found that someone is giving theirs goofans user/pass for free and is encouraging others to join him.
Is the same thing happening to 2dboy/forum accounts??

Not that I know of. Maybe the site's popularity has increased recently with the attention from the birthday sale, making it a more interesting target for link spammers.

Spammers have always been here. If you come across a spam post, just use the "Report to moderator" link at the bottom, and one of the moderators will clean them up soon enough. ;)

Oh! Report this post to the mod, Pavke! It'll be cool!
Naw, just kidding.

I've seen a few bots, though.

I think I finally nailed down the only way to completely stop porn spam from getting on my site.  There are spam bots out there that target forums like mine and dump crap and porn links on the post.  I didn't have to deal with it too often but it was enough to be annoying! Maybe once every two weeks someone would get through.

Mortgage Payment Protection Insurance
car breakdown insurance

Well, isn't this ironic. ;D

There is a person called "ronaldwarb" posting spam all over.

I deleted them all, but unfortunately we don't have a way to block an account, and he's still posting new ones...

Re: spam bots everywherePavke11/15/2009 - 14:57

there is no stopping this 'ronaldwarb' spam bot!! As soon as davidc and Soultaker logout he spams back!

We need help from Ron and Kyle for this one!!

Re: spam bots everywherethB11/15/2009 - 15:27

The question is if they are ever coming back...

Re: spam bots everywheredavidc11/15/2009 - 16:55

I already e-mailed them on the subject (giving us the ability to block spam users).

Re: spam bots everywhereSoultaker11/15/2009 - 17:51

After your latest experiment I only saw a spam message in the Official Discussion Club forum (which didn't have a previous spam topic) so maybe that worked, or maybe the spammer just got tired. I've written a script to automatically deleted all posts from ronaldwarb every five minutes. Let's see how long they keep this up.

But yeah, it would be much easier if we could just ban spammers.

edit:
Seems like this is no longer necessary. Nice. :)

Yeah (for everyone else's info) I e-mailed Kyle and we now have the ability to ban spammers - which is good because often (usually) there are multiple spams from the same account

It's good to see Kyle and Ron are still thinking about us.
