I managed to get through all the other levels fairly quickly (although great fun!), but I can't seem to get close to beating this level.  I have been able to reach the other side a couple times, but with barely 1 or 2 balls left, not nearly enough to pass.  Someone help please!

also there are many ways, keep trying and you'll get some

What he said.  Build at a 45 degree angle upwards ( / )  This way, your bridge arcs sidewards, which causes it to become straight ( - ). 
Also, build in triangles, and create around 2 layers of triangles for the first half of the bridge, and use 1 layer of triangles for the second (====----)

Figured it out.  With only about 2 extra balls, but I'll try for more later.  I managed to get near the top of the screen on the next level, but my tower fell apart at the last moment.  What do you get in that last stage if you hit the top of the screen?

Nope, never played Pontifex in my life.  It looks interesting though, I may try it.

You don't need to build a structure, you just need to fly....

I loved Pontifex and all it's many variations.  That's the reason that as soon as I heard about this game I had it preordered 2 minutes later.  I can't wait to see what the remaining levels of world of goo have in store.  Suspension cable goos??

I always build on around a 50 degree angle, in one layer of triangles, as fast as possible. This may be the reason that I don't complete this level very often...

The most reliable way of doing it, I find, is to build slightly down the side of the cliff before making the actual bridge. This gives a solid foundation for the thing to lay against so it won't just fall down.

Building it straight up and making it come crashing down is more fun, though. :)

Also, making the entire bridge sturdy isn't totally necessary.  If you build the last few meters quickly you can connect to the other side as it starts falling, which will keep it sturdy.
