Can I get some help on how to finish this level? I gather I'm supposed to attach the virus-balls to the vine at the top... But the damn vine swings too much to be usable- It just rams itself into the gears when it gets long enough, and I end up trying to gnaw my mouse buttons off. Help?

When I did this level I shot the virus goo as the "vine" was swinging towards where I was shooting from. I believe, based on the accuracy of the physics I've seen so far, this will slow down/dampen the swinging motion. It could just be wishful thinking, but this strategy worked for me and I completed the level without breaking the "vine" once. My thoughts are a force of similar magnitude in the opposite direction will lessen the magnitude of the original force.

I hope this helps.

Well, drat. Next question: How do you skip levels?

Re: Chapt. 4, level 3, "Grapevine"charon1210/13/2008 - 04:13

I'll have to go back and try it again to see if I did anything beyond what I remember. It took me a few tries to get the hang of the virus goo. And then again maybe someone else has a more legitimate solution than my "It appears to have worked, let's go with that" approach.

Anyhow, to skip the level: Click "Retry" in the bottom left corner instead of clicking Menu. It will ask you to confirm and in the bottom right corner it will ask if you wish to skip the level and it will display your remaining number of level skips. I have noticed that some levels are "unskipable" and I believe those are levels that trigger cutscenes.

It seems you get 3 level skips per chapter and the ones you don't use roll-over. So since you're in Chapter 4 and haven't skipped levels, you should have 12 level skips left.

Your strategy sounds fine, charon12. It's what I do as well. You could also just wait a bit. The swinging should dampen out after a while, if you don't have green goos scurrying about on your vine.

Thank you very much for that clarification, Marius. I left that part out and that would make all the difference. More goo means more weight and thus more momentum for the swing. I love a good physics game.

I dunno, I had no problems with it swinging too far myself.. I generally tried to shoot up from underneath, as opposed to the side, though, so I think that helped.

Actually only moving weight is a problem. Attaching some additional red goo along the string does help with the swinging.
