the patch is ready!ron10/24/2008 - 10:44

hey yo,

we just silently released a patch that fixes a bunch of issues.  you can use your original download link to get the patched installer and simply install it over the current version (no need to uninstall).

below is a list of stuff that's been fixed.  if, after installing the patch, you still run into any of these problems, please let us know!

* better support for wider range of resolutions (specified in ./properties/config.txt)
* fixed: some players running the game with a non-admin login did not have their progress saved
* fixed: progress now saves properly on czech and swedish windows
* fixed: some users got a black screen on launch with sound but no video
* fixed: players can now get the OCD flag in MOM even after they've talked to her

Re: the patch is ready!xepherys10/24/2008 - 10:54

Huzzah!

Re: the patch is ready!Marius10/24/2008 - 11:43

Hmm... Wouldn't a patch download be better for your servers? Or is the new server strong enough to support everyone downloading the entire game again?

Re: the patch is ready!crowebird10/24/2008 - 12:23

no wii update? :(

no wii update? :(
Most of these fixes don't even apply for the wii version. So what's the point?

Re: the patch is ready!martinarcand110/24/2008 - 12:54

MOM's OCD would apply I believe...

Re: the patch is ready!crowebird10/24/2008 - 13:00

I would really like the mom ocd fixed... iv got about every ocd but that one, and starting over is not somthing I really want to do...
also it would be cool if they implemented name profiles and leaderboard to wii version too... shouldnt be that hard... :)

I don't think the name profiles is possible considering that Nintendo is a family focused company  :) and users can get a little explicit with their names.

Re: the patch is ready!ron10/24/2008 - 13:40

@marius
yeah, servers are strong enough to handle the load now

@crowebird
MBH is right, only the MOM fix applies to the wii, and i don't think nintendo would push out an update just for that. we'll ask them though.  as for names, planchitecto hit the nail on the head.  adding names in scomplicated.  we have to add a keyboard, submit each name to nintendo for approval to avoid "bad" words, display the appropriate nintendo error messages when stuff goes wrong, and change our ESRB ratings.  overall, more trouble than it's worth.

Re: the patch is ready!crowebird10/24/2008 - 13:47

yea that makes sense, I was just really looking forward to the mom fix :/

I agree with names things, lots of trouble for nothing, but can't we Wii users still get a 400th / 10000 users type leaderboard?  Even if we don't have the names it would be really cool :D

Re: the patch is ready!Jul10/24/2008 - 16:23

Hi,
I tried downloading the patch/new version via the old link in my email and install it over the old version...
I lost all profiles and saves and came back to where I was when I finished the demo... :'(
As I just finished the game for the second time trying to get maximum OCDs I hope I can get my saves back or I probably won't have the motivation to re-do all of it before long. :-[
Please help me find a way to fix it.
I am running the game on Windows vista. (Where are savegame data on vista by the way?)
Thanks for your help! :D

Re: the patch is ready!Hyunk10/24/2008 - 19:14

When will it be available through Steam?

Re: the patch is ready!The Happy Friar10/24/2008 - 20:46

could you add a version # to the file name?  That way people know what version they have downloaded.

It seems that the location of the saves has changed in the new version. Since you are running vista, your saves should be here:
C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\ProgramData\2DBoy\WorldOfGoo\pers2.dat

Try to copy this file to C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Local\2DBoy\WorldOfGoo

Worked for me...

Re: the patch is ready!soad66710/25/2008 - 08:29

Thanks dremor, i almost got a heart attack when i saw my profile gone! :o
It was a bit different for me, since i use WinXp.

I took the save file from here...
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\2DBoy\WorldOfGoo\
...and copied it here.
C:\Documents and Settings\<USERNAME>\Local Settings\Application Data\2DBoy\WorldOfGoo\

And then i became something like ;D when i went into WoG again.

Noooooo!!! :(

You fixed it so we can get the OCD, but there still isn't any MOM.  I am saddened.

Same size?themacmeister10/26/2008 - 04:31

I tried re-downloading the patched installer, and my download manager simply copied the cached version of the original (in < 1sec). Now THAT'S a fast internet connection!

I re-downloaded WITHOUT the download manager, and it appears the two installers I have are identical in size (to the byte) and I cannot decipher the dates adequately. Is the patched installer identical size to the original installer? (65,239,294bytes)

(PS. There is a possibility that my download manager RESUMED the patched installer and padded the last few bytes). It said it was RESUMING, although the file was complete already.

Re: the patch is ready!Marius10/26/2008 - 04:56

Hmmm, I should have the info you are looking for.

The original is 65 196 921 bytes, and the new, patched one, is 65 239 294 bytes.
So I think you have the new one. I don't have info about the minor in-between patch, because I don't have that.

Re: the patch is ready!tasker10/26/2008 - 08:11

Here are the MD5 checksums for the two versions I have:

Latest patch (65,239,294 bytes): 556a1df2c843c9885b643a293b3ce965
Minor patch (65,231,060 bytes): 4cbbf391baaafae8636538231694a06b

I don't have the original week-early release installer any more.

Re: the patch is ready!cooljets10/26/2008 - 13:42

Is this patch going to auto-update on steam in the future or do we need to download manually?

Re: the patch is ready!Jul10/26/2008 - 16:12

Thanks dremor,
as you mentioned I copied the files from one location to the other and it all came back to normal...
I can now unsuccesfully try to get my name onto the leaderboard ... ;D
Thanks a lot!

Re: the patch is ready!ChickenLittle10/26/2008 - 16:35

hm, i can't redownload the game.. it says: "cannot connect to db" :-( maybe its because i told MOM to send all the deleted mails to the 2dboy server?

Re: the patch is ready!Marius10/26/2008 - 17:54

You found that debug function eh? I told them during the beta that that was going to cause problems...

Re: the patch is ready!SinoK10/26/2008 - 18:48

When the update is gonna be available for STEAM userS?

Slightly Off-Topicthemacmeister10/27/2008 - 05:30

Is it just me, or didn't they fix the WoG Corp cutscene repeating issue?!

I cannot seem to skip it, and it is effecting my OCD attempts  :'(

Re: the patch is ready!dukmiester210/28/2008 - 07:12

Well, I purchased my game from Direct2Drive (D2D) and looked on the patches page but none are listed for World of Goo.
Also, did a search on File planet as they are same company as D2D, but nothing there either.

Has the new "patched" installer been uploaded to D2D yet? Do I just need to re-download the installer from D2D and it will be the new "patched" version?

Any help appreciated,
thanks for reading, bye for now.

Re: the patch is ready!t-610/28/2008 - 07:45

Hey guys,
Thx for this little gem of a game!
But there is a little problem with the patch: When changing the resolution in the config.txt to 1680x1050, the ingame-screen is correctly stretched (correct AR), so far so good. But when a level is finished, the "Continue"-Bar dangles far too low on the screen so that it can't be clicked and the level not exited. In 1440x900 the bar still dangles very low, but at least it can be reached. I think, the bigger the resolution in height is, the lower the bar is actually placed on the screen, wouldn't suprise me if this shouldn't be the same in lets say 1280x1024. I'll check it out...

You mind correcting this issue in the next patch? I'll name my firstborn whateveryouwant if you do this!

edit: This is 1440x900:

...and this is 1680x1050:

1280x1024 works fine, seems to be (only) a problem with WS-resolutions...

edit2: There is another issue with WS-resolutions. :D
When choosing a WS-resolution, the... ingame-picture is not actually expanded horizontally. Instead, the upper and lower part of the picture seems to be cropped and the picture itself is zoomed, to fit the unusual aspect ratio.
Here is a pic with 800x600:

Compared with the WS-pictures above, in 800x600 there is actually "more to see", for example can we see more of the pipe above and some bushes at the lower edge of the screen.

One more pic and I'll stop being a PITA:

:D

Re: the patch is ready!BeSD10/29/2008 - 05:56

There is also an update available through steam!

Re: the patch is ready!*VeLeRoN*10/29/2008 - 10:54

The steam update doesn't offer
"* better support for wider range of resolutions (specified in ./properties/config.txt)" - it's not there. YAY. :-X

Re: the patch is ready!ron10/29/2008 - 11:56

the patch is now also available on steam.  it will automatically download next time you run the game.

Re: the patch is ready!TheClair10/30/2008 - 01:51

If we bought the retail release when can we expect access to this patch?

They forgot to mention it but it's there.   I tried it out and 1440x900 works like a gem - no more graphical glitches at all, the continue button and the goo tank are both perfect.  I think the previous poster with the screenshots didn't have the patch installed.  Still have to edit the config.txt though.   But it's really nice to be able to play in high-res.  Thanks for the patch Kyle and Ron!

Re: the patch is ready!Hawkey10/30/2008 - 05:36

Hi Guys,

I decided now to buy the boxed Version of WoG by Amazon (/still hopes that this Version concludes one for Linux and one for Windows). Is this Version allready patched or can I register it so I get a E-Mail with the Patch file ? Didn't even got any information about the patch on your front site, therefore I was a little bit confused (thought you would make an annoucenment or put them a Link at the support forum) :P

Keep it Going :D

Re: the patch is ready!Boudin10/30/2008 - 06:23

I don't think you'll have the Linux version since, if I remember well, Linux version beta and release are planned after Mac release. Mac version still in beta-test so you'll have to wait a little for Linux one.

Re: the patch is ready!Hawkey10/30/2008 - 07:11

And I thought Amazon ship this version later, because it include it all :'(
(then I have to find a friend who buy the version from the site or just wait a little bit and then spend some money for a second shot :D )

Right you are. The first installation of the game was on D:\World of Goo, the second one installed automatically (didn't change the path) on C:\Program Files\World of Goo and I overlooked that. Installed it correctly now and the glitch with the Continue button is no more, whether in 1440x or 1680x.

But the issue with the aspect ratio still remains, the picture is still zoomed in with WS-resolutions...  :-\

Re: the patch is ready!Hyunk10/31/2008 - 00:32

1280 * 1024 doesn't work at all, but 1280*960 does work. The only problem I encountered was really minor ( All the chapters names on the startup screen are a little off to the right )

Re: the patch is ready!Zeitgeist11/05/2008 - 09:21

You can now find WoG v1.20 behind your secret download location. :-) 1680x1050 appears to have the correct aspect ratio for me now. Thx 2D Boy! :D

Re: the patch is ready!Nicosmos11/05/2008 - 13:00

Yes, 1280*1024 seems to not work (the game is launched in 800*600). :-\ I precise I use it under Wine on Linux, so it's maybe because of this.
And on a other computer, under Wine too, I have the same problem that have Hyunk, with chapters names on the right, but very more accentuated : I can view only an half width of text. :P

Re: the patch is ready!t-611/05/2008 - 18:31

Sry for disappointing, but it's still not working...  :(
Still the same: Aspect ratio is okay, but to achieve correct AR, the picture is zoomed and the upper and lower parts of the screen are cut. And there is still an issue with the main menu in 1440x, the texts are somewhat very close to the right edge of the screen and even go a bit further...

Re: the patch is ready!Botulino11/07/2008 - 08:57

Shouldn't this be stickied?
Download succesful! Pity that I can't up the resolution, my laptop is oooold...
