LEADERBOARDS!kyle10/25/2008 - 23:24

The leaderboards are finally in working order. They are still "beta" at this point, so let me know if anything looks wrong before I post this to the main site:

http://worldofgoo.com/leaderboard.php

Also, there has been some cheating. If you suspect a player/robot/whatever of cheating, just paste their url below like a little witch hunt, so I can train the cheat detector better.

Re: LEADERBOARDS!crowebird10/25/2008 - 23:57

well just looked at it... ivy towers:
1.  Desert 53 balls, 249 seconds, 60 moves
... i dont think it is possible to get 53 balls on this map

Re: LEADERBOARDS!CyberShadow10/26/2008 - 00:40

Sorry about those 17 balls on 1st level, I was just playing around :P

Re: LEADERBOARDS!Marius10/26/2008 - 03:13

LEADERBOARDS!

Edit: Oh hum errr... could you check if your cheat detector erroneously deleted my uber-epic 87-ball solution for Tower of Goo, of which I have screenshotty proof? I want my first place, with a margin of 6 over the second place :P

Edit: And my 30 ball solution for Drool...

Edit: Possibly, both of these have been done within a week of getting the full version, as in, within a week before the official release date. Weren't the leaderboards recording then?

Edit: Why don't Genetic Sorting Machine scores get submitted? I do believe I have the least moves there ::) But yeah, I mean, Regurgitating Pumping Station scores exist...

Edit: I think my assessment of Upper Shaft concluded that the absolute max was 54. I may have overlooked one or two, but I doubt I overlooked 5... Or... unless he found a way to cut the links but not the balls, but I thought that was impossible on Upper Shaft. Anyway, so yeah, I'm not saying he's cheating, I'm just wondering if there's any way you could have a look. Link (Upper Shaft, 59 balls)

Edit: 4 moves on MOM's computer? Maybe he did something with throwing structure in the air? I tried stuff like that, but couldn't get the screen to scroll up... Although maybe if I set the resolution to 300x10 000...? Haven't tried that :P Anyway, same disclaimer as previous edit: Link
(Yes, I am going through the entire leaderboard top scores :'))

Edit: So yeah. I'm done :P It's nice to see I'm on top of most levels for which I put effort in, except where Tair beat me :P Also, I'm on top with just 35.9 meters? Come on, people! That's bullshit! Besides, I still have 27 balls left! Not that I really mind... I'm busy enough as it is :P

Re: LEADERBOARDS!kyle10/26/2008 - 03:50

Cheat Detector Bot marks players as cheaters, not individual scores. So if you see any of your scores at all, you're safe!

It's possible some score records were lost. Our old server got very stressed out. The new one appears to be doing much better.

Re: LEADERBOARDS!Marius10/26/2008 - 03:53

Oh damn... then I'll have to redo SURPASS my score in Tower of Goo! xD There's still a tiny margin for improvement xD
Drool isn't that much of a problem, once I'm past the juggling bit...

Edit: Could you maybe add the uploading of the total play time to the game/leaderboard? I want to see how much life people are going to think I don't have ::)

Re: LEADERBOARDS!BeSD10/26/2008 - 06:47

Awesome, leaderboards!  :D
Too bad I can't find myself anywhere.

One thing annoys me, I see some names more than once within in the leaderboard of a level. For example, at the moment you can see the name Kezan at least 5 times on the first level. It would be nicer to only show the best effort you have done, and not every one.

Re: LEADERBOARDS!Try_lee10/26/2008 - 07:44

I'm rather sure that this isn't quite right.

Re: LEADERBOARDS!tasker10/26/2008 - 08:05

argh! down already?

Re: LEADERBOARDS!Soultaker10/26/2008 - 08:26

My profile page is still online. ;)

Re: LEADERBOARDS!*VeLeRoN*10/26/2008 - 09:19

Not working for me - "cannot connect to db" is all I see on that page.

Re: LEADERBOARDS!Marius10/26/2008 - 09:28

Their server is broken...

Re: LEADERBOARDS!toggo10/26/2008 - 14:17

Database failure for me too.  ???

Re: LEADERBOARDS!Soultaker10/26/2008 - 18:02

Apparently, the leaderboard page is now "udating." (sic)  ;D

Re: LEADERBOARDS!Marius10/26/2008 - 18:06

Indeed, I just noticed this. Gives me a lot of confidence, if people misspell the only word on an entire page ::)

Re: LEADERBOARDS!martinarcand110/26/2008 - 18:16

"udating"

Good thing I have a g/f, otherwise i'd feel sad reading that :(

"you dating?" LMAO... I'm tired >.>

Anybody who saw the baords know if Wii scores apply? :D

Re: LEADERBOARDS!Marius10/26/2008 - 18:18

"Ahahaha, you're sitting there, refreshing, trying to look at the leaderboards? You dating? Ah, no, don't answer that, I already know the answer!"

So yeah

*Is relieved that since very recently, he is, indeed, dating :D

(Don't know which scores were Wii scores, so can't answer that)

Re: LEADERBOARDS!kyle10/26/2008 - 22:22

Ok, you guys totally crashed our server with all the leaderboard refreshing. It's up again. Bring it on.

Re: LEADERBOARDS!Troute10/26/2008 - 22:46

Awesome.

Bah, only got one two real records (didn't you do Beauty and the Electric Tentacle in 60 seconds or so, Marius? EDIT: nevermind). Second Hand Smoke is my domain ;D

Also: How accurately are the times measured, exactly? Is it just accurate to the second? If so, on the off chance that someone gets the same amount of balls in the same amount of time with the same amount of moves, who comes first?

This is very important (on Observatory Observation Station, on which I am currently #1 ;D )

Q1:  Are those only the first 10 scores?  Or is everyone's username on there?
If so, search box please? :D

Q2:  Subject of the Wii, admins will read and ignore.. so just ignore this >.>

If not.. Wii leaderboards?  Wii WoGC placements? (56th out of 30000)?  Get PC version of WoG with proof of purchase? (Credit Card statement, + picture of Wii with game, + me posing nude next to it)

Re: LEADERBOARDS!Troute10/26/2008 - 23:42

Oh, and according to the leaderboards, I only have 969 balls, while in game it says I have 1088. I also see someone with over 1800 balls. Are there even that many balls in game? Or am I missing something?

Re: LEADERBOARDS!tasker10/27/2008 - 01:09

How the hell do you complete "You Have To Explode the Head" in 3 moves?!

The Great Leaderboard (in its infinite wisdom) deemed me superior for some reason. Do not question it! :P

11 moves is nothing, Marius will get all 12 balls in 0 moves, I'm sure ;D

Re: LEADERBOARDS!Scaevolus10/27/2008 - 07:22

Grammar: "least moves" should be "fewest moves", as it's an integer.

Re: LEADERBOARDS!Damon F10/27/2008 - 09:12

Erm, I think this may be cheating.......

Going Up:

1. ..BortuS.. 2200 balls, 28 seconds, 3 moves
2. ..BortuS.. 1683 balls, 76 seconds, 3 moves
3. ..BortuS.. 1089 balls, 23 seconds, 3 moves
4. ..BortuS.. 234 balls, 22 seconds, 5 moves
5. ..BortuS.. 234 balls, 189 seconds, 5 moves

Re: LEADERBOARDS!Marius10/27/2008 - 09:14

What, you didn't find the hidden tenthousand balls in Going up?

Re: LEADERBOARDS!Damon F10/27/2008 - 09:21

Marius, not knowing your sense of humour, I assume that's your dry wit shining through there?  ;)

Re: LEADERBOARDS!Marius10/27/2008 - 09:25

You seriously didn't find them?

Neither did I...

Re: LEADERBOARDS!Soultaker10/27/2008 - 11:39

Slightly more on-topic, here is an overview of the five tallest towers I have on file:

medium version (524 KiB)
large version (2.5 MiB)

Keep up the good work!

Re: LEADERBOARDS!kyle10/27/2008 - 14:17

A tip - you might want to avoid posting people's actual playerkeys (the 32 char identifier). If an unscrupulous person were to find them, he could use the key with our leaderboard server, and change everyone's towers, submit fake scores, etc.

Re: LEADERBOARDS!Marius10/27/2008 - 14:32

Heh (*speaks for Soultaker), way ahead of you. It's not the player key, it's the hash of the playerkey :)

Re: LEADERBOARDS!Soultaker10/27/2008 - 14:39

Marius is right: I replace the player keys with their hash as soon as I receive them, and the real player key is never stored. However, kyle makes a good point in general: people shouldn't send their profile data to people/servers they don't trust, or risk their World of Goo identity being stolen. (Of course, I can totally be trusted! Really!)

Re: LEADERBOARDS!RMJ10/27/2008 - 16:19

Very nice, i was just wondering how come some people have like using 288 out of 1800 balls, wasnt the max balls 300? or are they cheating`?.

Also why not use the great concept from singleplayer, allow us to have more than black goo balls, let us have some green ones, baloon ones :D that would really make it fun.

Re: LEADERBOARDS!Marius10/27/2008 - 16:23

That's the maximum amount of balls saved, as seen in your profile. They can still only use 300.

Re: LEADERBOARDS!Soultaker10/31/2008 - 22:05

I'm really happy to see Watson took the lead just now (on my page at least) with his signature two-pillar design!

Just look at that. Isn't it awesome?

Nice to see people trying something new and actually scoring well with it too.
(Incidentally, Marius, how is your cable-suspended design coming along?)

Re: LEADERBOARDS!Marius10/31/2008 - 22:08

Ah indeed, very nice :D Next spare time I have I'm gonna try that as well, I think :P

Uhm, yeah, haven't worked on it since last time... it's slow to build it :P

Re: LEADERBOARDS!martinarcand110/31/2008 - 22:20

I would of been #7 on Soul's website, except I decided to upload a smaller tower :(

BTW: Website suggestion, put links to previous uploads on the profiles, eg, i'd have 7 links on my page to view my previous towers :D

or.. put all our towers in progression on our profiles, that would be cool :D

Intentional Holes?themacmeister11/01/2008 - 00:19

Martinarcand1,

Was that hole near the base intentional? I have seen these on most of the leading towers. I sometimes make some holes accidentally, but some of these towers have a fairly symmetrical arrangement of holes?

Re: LEADERBOARDS!Marius11/01/2008 - 06:23

Well, in most towers, the base is much stronger than the top, even relatively. This means that you can weaken it a little, and get some free goos in return. It's a very dangerous strategy though...

Re: LEADERBOARDS!Marius11/01/2008 - 08:53

Watson has just made an epic tower of 41 meters :D Very nice! Too bad I don't have the time atm to beat it...

Hehe.. I still hold the lifetime maximum though, with 41.1 meters :') (Viewable by clicking the profile on the leaderboard)

Re: LEADERBOARDS!martinarcand111/01/2008 - 17:17

Yeah, intentional hole, when it's very well built making holes will actually not change your structure, meaning you take the goo out and no movement happens :D  The dangerous ones are when you take a goo out to make a hole and the whole thing starts moving, THAT is dangerous :D

Re: LEADERBOARDS!Marius11/01/2008 - 17:23

In my tower, which is currently in second place, I actually removed one of the nodes which was standing on the ground (right side), because it was leaning too much to the left, and I couldn't compensate for it. 'T was a risky move :P

Re: LEADERBOARDS!Tal11/02/2008 - 06:39

Marius, i have to say it.

YOU ARE GOD!!!!

Re: LEADERBOARDS!Marius11/02/2008 - 08:21

Well... thank you :P But I'm not in first place at the moment :P

Re: LEADERBOARDS!tair00111/03/2008 - 15:47

Anyone else getting really tired of all these cheaters editing their pers2.dat files? I know it seems trivial at the moment because most of them are making it blatantly obvious by saying they got 600 balls on every level but it's only a matter of time before they start adding believable scores to the leaderboards making our efforts futile...

Isn't there any kind of hash check to discern when people have modified their data files? I feel sorry for the poor cheatbot at the moment, overworked and underpaid...where's the love?

Re: LEADERBOARDS!Marius11/03/2008 - 16:39

Aye, the hash check would have been a good idea, although it's still circumventable, it's harder to do this...
But yeah, that's why I usually make videos of my scores, nowadays.

Re: LEADERBOARDS!martinarcand111/03/2008 - 23:53

hehe, i'm pretty much at -2 to -10 balls for all my OCD's :P  my goal is #1 tower!!! :D

Re: LEADERBOARDS!Marius11/04/2008 - 02:43

Busy atm, but after today I'm free for the rest of the week. Getting #1 back is on my to-do list >:)

Re: LEADERBOARDS!Tal11/04/2008 - 20:09

Hard to say what the maximum is, but the record on my site is "only" 1254, so you're doing great!

grr, someone took my design, improved it, and beat my tower record :(

Re: LEADERBOARDS!SharkFin8511/12/2008 - 07:54

Hi everyone...
I first played this game on version 1.00 for Mac... And now I have the version 1.20....

---PLEASE LISTEN TO MY PROBLEM---
In version 1.20 I have recreated a profile with the same nickname (SharkFin85) as in the v1.00,
I did that because the v1.20 didn't want to recognize the "pers2.gat" from the v1.00, so I strarted the game from the beginning   >:(

My big problem starts here :
In Corporate mode I can see my old profile (SharkFin85 from v1.00).
After unlocking "Chapter 4", EVERY extra ball that I earn was counted for my old profile (v1.00)...  !!! ???
Now my new profile (v1.20) has blocked on 300 balls (corporate mode) and the old profile has 800+ balls (I can see that from the old profile cloud).
Every time I go in Corporate World.... NO NEW BALLS, and the old profile total balls increases....   :( :( :( :(

PLEASE HELP ME WITH THAT....
I don't want to loose all my OCDs + Corporate extra balls + + +...

PLEASE HELP.... :-\

--- I don't know... maybe someone from the development team can move the extra balls from the old profile to the new one and delete the old profile...

Thanks a lot....

SharkFin85

Re: LEADERBOARDS!herminator11/12/2008 - 10:07

There is a 300 ball limit on WoG Corp, so even when you get additional extra balls, your total available there will not increase. The same goes for all other players, but in their clouds you will see their total number of balls (eve though they can only use 300). At the leaderboards, you will see that all the top towers use no more than 300 balls (most of them use 300, and are listed as "using 300 of XYZ balls", where XYZ is the total number of balls they have earned.

Re: LEADERBOARDS!Soultaker11/12/2008 - 17:10

So what do you guys think about that guy that's on first place on the leader board right now? He allegedly built a 42.1m high tower, but his lifetime maximum is 79.8m and he has a total of 1500 balls collected, both of which make him pretty suspect.

Of course, that doesn't mean he's necessarily cheating right now, but still. Maybe it's the same guy that uploaded this interesting construction on my site:
[img height=200]http://hell.student.utwente.nl/wog/profiles/bd0d19cd571eef69d3dfb8011ef6d9cf/wogc-large[/img]

Re: LEADERBOARDS!kyle11/12/2008 - 17:33

Yeah, he was a cheater. I just went through and cleared out about 15 more sneaky cheaters too :)

Re: LEADERBOARDS!Tal11/12/2008 - 21:20

you should check the most balls section too, i believe its safe to say that everyone with more then 1350 balls is a cheater.

Re: LEADERBOARDS!Soultaker11/13/2008 - 06:53

I'm not sure; are balls collected in custom levels counted towards the total ball count? If so, I don't think it's fair to penalize people just for playing with custom levels, though I do agree it makes the most balls ranking more or less meaningless.

Re: LEADERBOARDS!Marius11/13/2008 - 11:35

Indeed I found it suspicious that he hadn't uploaded his score to Soultaker's site... But I was making plans to beat him anyway. But they've been postponed :P

Re: LEADERBOARDS!xepherys11/19/2008 - 17:58

How can you find out your profile number if you aren't ranked?

Re: LEADERBOARDS!Marius11/19/2008 - 19:50

Finish a level, submit score, go to the leaderboard, find the level, order by most recent, then click your name.

Re: LEADERBOARDS!martinarcand111/20/2008 - 20:56

so complicated...

Re: LEADERBOARDS!Marius11/21/2008 - 07:44

Oh dear cheat detector! Here's a new data point :D
http://www.worldofgoo.com/leaderboard.php?page=pinfo&pid=329258
(Fly Away Little Ones, 50 balls, 0 moves, 0 seconds)

Re: LEADERBOARDS!wogfan11/23/2008 - 12:04

Hi,

maybe you guys could add a "report cheater" button next to each score in the leaderboards. And when maybe 20 different user marked a score as a cheater the score could be deleted.

And if it happens more often for this user maybe you could ignore his scoreuploads.

Ciao, Wogfan.

Re: LEADERBOARDS!tair00111/23/2008 - 13:29

good idea!

Re: LEADERBOARDS!Marius11/23/2008 - 14:03

I'm not sure how trustworthy a system is that's really easy to use, and also anonymous...

Re: LEADERBOARDS!martinarcand111/23/2008 - 18:15

If it gets "marked" then an admin can check it later.  I don't agree with "20 people vote it down and it gets deleted"

You'd need to use your forum account to "mark" the score too, (users with more than 20 posts?), so abusers would be locked down :D

Re: LEADERBOARDS!Rubberduck11/23/2008 - 20:46

Hello together old WoG-Brothers  ;D
I am reading the board from beginning.

And hello to Marius the WoG-God  :o

I think that there must be something done against obviously cheaters, but I am not sure if a mark-cheater-button will help. A lot of people will click those buttons and in the end, the admin has to look at the leaderboard AND a BIG BIG "marked-as-cheater-list". It will make his work not easier but harder.

If the buttons come, I only agree if a Admin/Mod is checking marked cheaters. I (like martinarcand1) don't agree to a 20-clicks-record-removed-script.

Could not some scripts (php ?) be applied to the leaderboard, that automated prevent cheat-records to be recorded at all ?

A simple excample for "Chapter 1-Hang Low":
===========================================
1. if ((Saved Goos + moves made) > 28)  => CHEATER
2. if (moves made) <4)  => CHEATER

This will keep "Tao 24 balls, 540 seconds, 4 moves" (his record is possible).
Rule 1 will kick out "Wimbo 23 balls, 57 seconds, 9 moves".

Of course the rules should be discussed here in the board, before they are applied.

Greetings Rubberduck.

Re: LEADERBOARDS!wogfan11/23/2008 - 21:33

when i said 20, i didn't mean exactly 20. the usage of those buttons would show how many (less/more) should be reported to delete the score.

@marius: sure it's a little bit risky. maybe you have to login at the leaderboard as well to mark scores, and it's for sure one user should be allowed one score just one time. When a score seems to be marked unfair, then it could be recorded which user marks often unfair. But you're right, it's not ideal. But maybe the 2dboys have a close idea which could work.

@martinarcand1:
Nice temporary solutions, but maybe the forum should come up with an idea so that the 2dboys don't have to delete cheaters for eternity ;-)

@Rubberduck:
QUIT BEATING ME IN MY FAMOUS LEVELS IN THE LEADERBOARD ;-)

No, I think that way you'll nerver catch 100% cheaters because noone, not even the 2dboys, can know how FAST someone possible beat all the levels.

Re: LEADERBOARDS!Gil11/24/2008 - 04:50

Such test is not a good idea.. seeing some of the more creative OCD's. (such as Chapter 2 Fly Away Little Ones [13 collected])
Perhaps a simplified optimic test will do the job -
if(goos_collected>free_goos+bound_goos) => cheater
That will clear some obvious hackers.
Same idea for most balls collected:
if total goos collected > sum of max number of goos collected at each level => cheater

Re: LEADERBOARDS!Marius11/24/2008 - 10:48

Such rules would indeed probably also mark something like "Red carpet -> 0 moves" as a cheat, when it's not... it's hard to envision what the absolute minimum is for some levels.

Re: LEADERBOARDS!Rubberduck11/24/2008 - 15:02

@Gil + Marius:
I NEVER thought of applying some main-rules to all levels.
As "marius" I think it is impossible to find such fit-to-all-level-rules.

The reason for making this suggestion was simple. How long will old poor "kyle" wipe out cheaters from the leaderboard by hand.
The next 10 years? I assume he also has a life to live.

There must be rules for each single level, and I assume there also must be different rules for "most balls, fastet, least moves".
Rules for each level should be disussed seriously here in the board (in a different thread) and they must not be applied all at once.
One after the other if boardies are common about a set of rules.

The good thing with this method (one after the other) is, that the system could be tested in one or two levels.
If it fails? Ok, remove it, if it works more level-rules could be added.

Here a little example how I think a serious discussion could be startet.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Chapter 1 "Going Up" (the first game level):
There are 14 free goos in this level.
There are 4 goos in a (at least i think) nondestructable structure.
This makes 14 possible goos that could be saved.
To reach the pipe at least 3 goos are needed (it would be less if the goos from the structure could be detached [like green goes]). But they are not.
I did serious testing to reach the pipe with 2 goos. I always failed and the leaderboard seems to show I am right.

What about "fastet"? You have to save 6 goos. I myself did 6 goos in 3 seconds (also 2 seconds may be possible ??).

What about "least moves"? See above. At least three moves are needed.

So here are my rules that should be discussed:
[Quickcheck-Rule]
if ((savedBalls+Moves)>14) or (LevelTime<2) or (Moves<3)) => Cheater.
This rule will:
- kick out any "11+ balls"-Record.
- kick out any "11 balls(valid), x seconds, 4+ Moves"-Record. invalid because 11+4 > 14.
- kick out any "6 balls, [0,1] seconds, 3+ moves"-record. Invalid because to fast.
- kick out any "X balls, X seconds, 2- Moves" - Record. Invalid because of 3 moves needed minimum to solve level.
[Most balls]
if (savedBalls>11) => Cheater
[fastet]
if (LevelTime<2) => Cheater.
[least moves]
if (moves < 3) => Cheater.

Also there are three single rules for "most balls, fastet, least moves", they (probably) never will be checked, because the single-line-quick-rule takes care of most cheaters.

Because of the OR-Command in the Quickrule it calculate fast.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
This was only a example. If people realy want to discuss such rules, I or someone else could start a different thread.
In the first post of such a thread rules for the levels could be collected.

P.S: Another little suggestion for the leaderboard. Is it possible to show after each levelname, what record-section is currently visible. At least in Firefox I am never sure what record-table ("most balls, fastest, least moves") I am currently looking at.

Instead of only showing "Going Up" leveltitle shows something like this:
"Going Up - fastet" or
"Going Up - most balls" or
"Going Up - least moves".

Greetings from rubberduck.  ;D

Sorry, this post should be appended to the thread "LEADERBOARDS!".
Admin please move it there if possible. Thanks.

Re: LEADERBOARDS!Marius11/25/2008 - 04:28

I did in fact realize you meant rules per individual level, but still. Let's say your example, going up: The edge of the level destroys structures, then leaves you the gooballs. If there was a way to apply enough force to the structure, so it reaches the edge, then it's possible to free the original structure's balls. Then, it may be possible to bump a tiny bit of structure to the pipe, bringing the maximum balls to, say, 16.

Now, Going up is a bad example, because I think the original structure is anchored quite strongly to the ground, but the strategies applied are perfectly valid. For example: you can break up the chain on Chain to get all goos in the level minus one. The other strategy I applied on Red Carpet, finishing the level in zero moves.

Both of these examples have been accused of cheating. Luckily, I have a video of the Red Carpet score. For some other scores with unusual strategies, have a look at Fisty's Bog and Drool on this page.

My point is this: Beforehand, it's really difficult to say what's possible and what's not. Besides, there's already a cheater-catching bot working on the leaderboard, but I'm not quite sure what its criteria are...

Did you manage to break the entire chain? the max I got there was 31 balls.. (with 8 or 7 still connected)

A basic all-level check would be:
If there's balloon
if total balls collected > (bound goos + free goos) he hax.
If no balloon
if total balls collected > (bound goos + free goos - 1) he hax.

And it could be improved with regard to green goo too.

Re: LEADERBOARDS!wogfan11/25/2008 - 23:17

OK, I'm frustrated right now.

I had a private message from someone who is reading this Forum as well. He says here in the Forum he is against cheating, but the told me how he got the one or other score. And he asked me which program I'm using to get my scores.

He asked me that like it's kind of naturally.

We wrote some mails, and he sees himself as a fair player, because he

DOESN'T
- Change scores in the memory
- change the pers2.dat
- manipulate the score transmission
- changes a gamelevel

What he does is that he uses a program to record his mousemovement while he is solving a level. After he played that level all his mouse movements are saved in a script which is easy changeable. It records the XY-Coordination where he went with the move, when he clicked and so on.

After he recorded it, he can erase the waiting time between his moves, or when he moved from point A to point B somehow he can change that way to a direct line.

With that program you can also increase the speed the mouse was moved between two points. So you easily can get from one point to another fast, but still mange to land on the exact pixel you wanna reach on the screen.

And when the script is modified to be faster, you can "play" that script so that it plays the level now like you did, just faster. If you have scripted the fastest script, you just have to play it 10 times, and the leaderboard is yours.

He sais thats not cheating, because the game data and all the score transmission were never touched from him.

But for me it's kind of you're biking on the "tour the france" while saying "i didn't changed the bike at all. No bigger wheels or so". But you added a motor to the bike.

So, what are you other guys and girls thinking about that.

So, until now i was very proud of having some scores in the "fast" section of some levels in the leaderboard. But I can't compete manually with the speed of a script. And i don't wanna start scripting to stay in the leaderboards.

When he finds out how Impale Sticky is solved with 44 saved Goos, he wanna beat my score there as well. So for me "World Of Goo" is still fun, but i think the leaderboards are sadly dead for me, because the cheater-catching-bot from the 2dboys surely will never have a chance to scan other processes which run on the machines from some gamers out there.

So for the script using guys/girls out there. For me that's cheating.

For the one person who wanna script to beat my Impale Sticky Speed Scores:
Here it is:
http://www.wogfan.de.vu/ and the click "1-04 - Impale Sticky"

R.I.P Leaderboard

Re: LEADERBOARDS!Marius11/26/2008 - 14:12

First: Dang, very nicely done on Impale Sticky, and kudos for making a video of it :D

Yes, I do consider that cheating, and lame. I don't think it will get him the fastest score on every level, though, because the motions of the goos are random (AFAIK). So the only levels on which he'll be able to do this, are the levels where the random factor hasn't had time to be an issue. So, levels which can be completed in under 10 seconds or so... (Correct me if I'm wrong)

Re: LEADERBOARDS!herminator11/27/2008 - 05:02

That is definitely cheating :o

I've never been much of a fan of the "fastest" records of finishing levels, I much prefer the "think outside the box to save more goo balls or use less moves" kind of thing :)

I do think, btw, that picking up and dropping a goo ball (without attaching it) should count as a move. Sometimes doing so is useless, but usually you do it for a specific purpose and it should count.

Oh, I know it will never happen. But it is a bit strange to see solutions using "0 moves". It's not like the player just sat there and waited for the level to finish itself :)

On the other hand, I think that something like your 0 move solution of Red Carpet is absolutely stunning, and well worth some praise, so perhaps the current implementation is not so bad after all ;)

Re: LEADERBOARDS!wogfan11/28/2008 - 12:48

...
surely it's harder to script on those levels where the goos move random, but it depends on the scripting skill. You could move in a 2D-matrix to scan and save the background picture first, before you play the level. then, when you wanna pick up a goo just move over the matrix and search for a goo where is NOT the normal background color. with maybe 500 goo-pick-up-tries per second your fast enough.

also the script don't has to play the full level. in the beginning most goos are in the same place. the script can start playing the level and hand the mouse over to the player to finish it. For example in "Hang low" the script could throw 500 times goos down to the sleeping goos in some seconds. most of them or maybe all would be awake fast, and the player could finish it fast.

Also the problem doesn't only apper in the fast section of the leaderboard. If you took levels like "Ivy Tower" you'll see that the maximum saved goos (here 16) are reached by nearly every player from place 1 to 10. And this is so in many levels. So to become a player in the top10 you have to save the maximum goos AND be fast. So the problem from the script-kiddies appears in the "most balls" section of the leaderboard as well.

Or when you build the 300 balld tower:
start with 2 towers, one to carry all the moving goo balls. the other to build with no goo balls on it so that it's not bouncing. then build up the not bouncing tower with the help of the script in 100% symmetry by counting pixels.

whatever. Scripting players are mean.

Re: LEADERBOARDS!Marius11/28/2008 - 17:37

And I do agree that it's cheating.
But yeah, leaderboards like this are hard to keep clean. Preferably, a video is uploaded along with the score. Of the person playing it. With a webcam. And a copy of his passport, back and front.

Read again, and you'll see i don't wanna script, i wanna show how sadly easy it is. Also scanning a picture in 2D saving the pixelcolors one time in first step, and comparing the same 2d areas for colorchanges (so for goos) and pick them up in second step sounds for me more like a "learn scripting in some hours"-seminar.

What do you think is the complicated part in reading and comparing 2d matrixes? everyone who ever programmed/scripted in any language had so deal with a 2 dimension array.

So where is your ton of work?

Re: LEADERBOARDS!killbill2411/30/2008 - 02:00

These are obvious cheaters. I feel they should be banned from the leaderboard.by the way this is the first level in the game...I think it's called going up....or something like that.

1.  RU  Krotolov 1000000 balls, 28 seconds, 3 moves
2. TH RUSPUTIN 3010 balls, 27 seconds, 4 moves
3. TH RUSPUTIN 1000 balls, 37 seconds, 9 moves
4. TH RUSPUTIN 500 balls, 36 seconds, 3 moves
5. CN zx 60 balls, 36 seconds, 8 moves

The maximal number is now around 1353 :)

Any1 with more then that has either downloaded new levels/cheater.

Another obnoxious cheater: http://worldofgoo.com/leaderboard.php?page=pinfo&pid=489319

Are these losers permanently banned when found cheating?

Also, is there some way to detect cheating other than those who are so obvious about it? If some makes a realistic, but artificially created, tower, is there still a tip-off that admins can detect?

Re: LEADERBOARDS!BoggyP12/23/2008 - 11:18

Each persons game data should be sent through a simple program that goes through each level data to see if they have gotten over the maximum number of goo. and then the total should be added up after.

To admin

My top towers from the leaderboard have been removed because they were hogging the top 4

now, why is not this applied to the leaderboard of each level
for example
"LORDHXR" is hogging level one !!!!

+

why are not you removing duplicate names from the leaderboard like u did to me
for example
"Prince of Persia" has two towers, and there are several ppl like him

+

why are u allowing us to have 3 accounts by default when u run the game if you are going to remove and modify the top towers from the leaderboard.
the game also allows us to delete those profile and replace them

do not have double standrards and explain

Re: LEADERBOARDS!cooljets12/25/2008 - 02:10

This is kind of sad. I come back to play some World Of Goo for the first time after first beating it to see if I could try for some high scores. Then I find out that they're broken by cheaters and inconsistent moderation. Come on, can't "Best Indie Game Of The Year" or whatever fix its online leaderboards?

In all fairness, using 3 accounts to be #1, #2, and #3 is douchebaggy.. :P
Marius posted about this a while ago, (and he himself suggested that once a higher tower is created, he'd destroy the previously created one)

I agree with you that duplicate accounts should be cleared form the leaderboards though..

I find suspicious that 6 legit positions in the first level is by some german guy :P  The frirst 2 are obviously fake.. (153 balls, and 90 balls..)

feel free to email me  I am very curious.

Re: LEADERBOARDS! Level 1 Going Up scoresdavidc12/26/2008 - 16:59

No, obviously the current high scores are fakes. The most balls you can get are the balls in the level plus any spawned balls e.g. from beauty) minus ones that can't be detached. So, 153, 122 and 90 balls are clearly hacked.

Re: LEADERBOARDS!Elipsis12/26/2008 - 23:56

How about this one on "Red Carpet":

1.  EU  Marius 18 balls, 57 seconds, 0 moves

0 moves, now?  Really...  Did someone figure something insane out or is it just mad cheating?  Although all the rest of the scores astound me too.  11?  13?  Hell I thought 40 was good given that OCD was 45, lol.

Re: LEADERBOARDS!martinarcand112/27/2008 - 05:11

Marius is legit, he's like WoG God around here, ask him for how he did it, he'll most likely tell you :D

Re: LEADERBOARDS!Botulino12/27/2008 - 05:49

Maybe he was messing around with the editor and mistakenly checked the submit result box.

Re: LEADERBOARDS!Elipsis12/27/2008 - 15:11

Even if you dropped the red carpet with 0 moves (which I did figure out), you'd need the wildest bounce ever to get fatty broken down into her constituent parts... and even then the pipe wouldn't actually suck them up unless you made some moves to at least get the minimum size structure up there to keep the pipe going.

Hmmm...

Amazing job Marius!

Question about this.  Why is the one gooball thrown once off the wall prior to chucking it at fatty to get her across the gap?  Is it just to kill time or is there some weird property of the goo piece retaining bounce and intertia between toss and catch?

#1 8 Seconds
#2 8 Seconds
#3 ..... so on so forth

It should be

#1: 8.09 Seconds
#2: 8.15 Seconds

So that for the levels where it's insanely fast, you can actually see where you stack.  I've tried to get 7 seconds all day, and I feel I just narrowly missed it.

EDIT:  It looks like it does do this, because I'm now #1 on "Graceful Failure" with 8 seconds ^^  It just doesn't list the X.## after the 8.  Yeah!! I'm #1 on something!  Go me!

EDIT2:  Never Mind.  It's because I got 7 balls instead of 6.  Go me again!

Don't worry about it, man. He's just a hacker. He'll be removed from the leaderboards before long

Re: LEADERBOARDS!Gil01/26/2009 - 05:34

It looks like they are removing cheaters more frequently.
But it is still annoying that the most balls calculation include player-made levels as well.

Re: LEADERBOARDS!Pavke02/07/2009 - 09:09

Ok. we hava a problem... 8 sec on Flying Machine!!! WTF!!!! Cheater!

The leaderboard server is under some work, I think.
I hope it will be fixed. But for now, you have the
fan-made leaderboard which can, when you submit the
pers2.dat file (something like that), it gives you a
picture of your tower with the height!

But I miss the old leaderboard...  :(
Maybe they're playing the levels over and over to
see what is the best time, the least moves and
the max amount of Goo available on each level
to program a better cheatbot and hopefully
give the old one a good retirement.

Hello! I was just wondering if anyone has gotten more than 11 Goos on Going Up (even if they used a hack). I would like to know the strategy, if so, to doing that. I am still a newbie on this forum and WoG (even though I beat it) and just wanted to know what the worldwide best is. I am inquisitive, so I'll be posting whenever I can. ;)
Hope you WoG masters can answer. :D
