Tower of Goo runs Great Under Wine... Does WOG?Goo_of_Purest_Evil03/26/2008 - 14:00

As a linux inclined kind of chap, I loved playing Tower of Goo Unlimited on my linux (Kubuntu Hardy) box under wine. It worked flawlessly. Now I'm looking lovingly at the WOG preview. Has anyone tried it running under wine? Yes I'm aware that *eventually* there will be linux binaries available, but I want to play it now dammit! Now! Now! Now!  ;D

The trailer rocks btw. I just saw it and part way through was already "I need me that. Period."  ;)

I can try this evening, but I have a very limited linux knowledge. I've got Wubi installed. Do I just, for example, type "wine pathname"?

Re: Tower of Goo runs Great Under Wine... Does WOG?Goo_of_Purest_Evil03/28/2008 - 16:42

Wubi is an experimental program that installs ubuntu as a program in Windows rather than as it's own operating system. If you've installed Wubi, you should then be able to run ubuntu from in the start menu in Windows. In ubuntu you can just open the program Synaptic to install other programs (Wine in this case). Just search for wine, and choose install. Once that's done just browse to the WOG .exe in ubuntu (Windows File Explorer = Nautilus) and click on it.

Alternately go into ubuntu, open a console and type:

sudo apt-get install wine<br />wine /path/to/the/WOG.exe

I had the same problem until I installed a more up-to-date version of Wine (wine-0.9.58), updated my ATI drivers (I use Envy), and made some configuration changes to xorg.conf.

It works for the most part, but crashes when it tries to submit your time/score - leave that unchecked.

jajaja No, it sets permissions for access to DRI.

True, which is one of many reasons why I bought it.  However, the preview is Windows only.

Very true, and the Mac and Linux version says it will be released after the Windows and Wii version.

And if I preorder now I can get the windows preview but when the final release comes will I get the access to both full windows and mac versions of the game?

Pre-ordered too, but I'll be waiting for the linux native client  ;)

I Love You 2D-Boy!

Demo runs sweet on Linux under the latest wine and latest ATI drivers (from Envy). Still no Goo on Nvidia though. :(

goo_of_purest_evil

I will be pre-ordering world of goo tomorrow. I am a linux user, using an nvidia card.

I will report back with my rate of success with wine + World of goo for Windows.

WoG works just fine on Gentoo AMD64 under wine 1.1.6, 1.1.7, 1.1.8 and 1.1.9with an NVidia card.
I'm using the 177.82 driver set (I download the binaries from NVIDIA.com and have it compile) on a GF9800GTX+ card and it runs smooth as butter under wine. (It should, too, with such a gfx-card).

Well, I have an 8400GS (cheapest nastiest PCI-e graphics card from NVidia, and it runs World of Goo perfectly under Wine at full speed (except for my previous problem of a 2 pixel transparent line at the very top of the screen during cutscenes/main menu. (desktop set at 24bit too!)
