If you havent already seen the level design competition, you should go here to read all the wonderful ideas people have created. It can be found here:
http://2dboy.com/forum/index.php?topic=55.0

If you have, and have one idea that you really like above all the others, vote now! (please, don't vote for your own idea. That's just silly). The voting will be open for 3 days.

The winner and possibly the runners up will get a mention in the credits, I'm told, and you may well see elements of your level design being used in the actual game! Also you will get the adoration of the masses and the ability to mind-wrestle with goldfish (not really, that would be daft).

So, vote if you like levels!

Having trouble choosing, Ballisticsfood? :)

I'm going with carp, but with the slight modification that the red part should be less wide than the green bridge part, otherwise you can just build down. Also, maybe you shouldn't have green goos, because that makes it too easy to remove them for more goos... Or with green goos you could just drop a triangle down to the bottom. With black goos this is much harder.

I'm going to go with TwentySeven.
I really wish I would have sat down and made something for this competition; now that I do there is tons of ideas that I would like to try out.  Oh well, I'm going to start up a (Specific) Level Ideas thread for anyone who wants to make more levels.

Re: Level design VotingCarp04/02/2008 - 19:16

I'm going with david.mcgraw's Teamwork  because it realizes the building-something-on-a-bridge dynamic as well(if not better than) mine.

Re: Level design VotingThe Happy Friar04/03/2008 - 09:06

only issue I have with voting is that there's so many designs vs # of forum members.  odds are the winner will have two votes while the others only have 1.

Re: Level design Votingswdfsh04/03/2008 - 10:21

david.mcgraw's Teamwork has my vote. Although there were so many awesome ones. I would love to see all of them made into actual levels :)

Re: Level design VotingDil99904/03/2008 - 16:25

In my opinion, the top 2-4 (unless one wins by a vast majority) should be put into a separate poll with no other maps (anything socring <2-3), so we can get a definitive answer.

I agree.

On another note. I'm a dummy, I voted for myself before I read what was written by the OP. Please acknowledge that david.mcgraw-1 should be counted.

Thanks!

Re: Level design VotingBallisticsfood04/04/2008 - 06:45

You're winning anyway, even if your vote is -1

Re: Level design VotingDil99904/04/2008 - 16:45

Think we should wait a few days, start the final poll now, or go with Teamwork?
In my opinion, even though Teamwork won by 3, we should do a poll with the top 3, since all of those voters who voter for other ones could possibly tip the balance, (especially necessary when the vote counts are this low, one or two changed votes could change who wins).

Re: Level design VotingCarp04/04/2008 - 18:24

A 2nd round sounds good to me. What say you, BF?

Re: Level design VotingDil99904/04/2008 - 19:10

Oh, and before we post the second poll (as long as we decide that we are going to) I think we should get each of the top 3 to qive is a quick statement, saying why their map is unique.

Re: Level design VotingSqrl04/04/2008 - 20:19

I noticed the votes were a bit on the low side so I posted this on the forum that lead me here in the first place, VGChartz.com.  Just so that nobody thinks I was trying to ballot stuff this is exactly how I posted it:

"As was posted a while back 2DBoy, developers of the upcoming title World of Goo have held a level design competition and the entries are in and the voting has begun, but will soon close.

Now I want to ask everyone to look over the entrants and weigh them fairly, I'd appreciate your support for my level but only if you honestly think its the best one.  The idea is to improve the game and I want to maintain the spirit of the competition, so please give your honest vote!"

Hopefully this is cool with everyone.

Re: Level design VotingBallisticsfood04/05/2008 - 06:26

Sqrl, thats OK by me.

And to all others: Since several of you say you want it, I'll probably start a second poll with the top 3 level designs in it. Unfortunately this means putting in 4 levels at the moment, so maybe only the top 2, then you can decide which level really gets your vote.

Should I leave the voting open a bit longer to see if it breaks the 3rd place stalemate or should i just get on with it?

Re: Level design VotingMarius04/05/2008 - 07:36

Maybe it could open again for a bit so the people from vgchartz could vote? Or is that a bad idea?

Re: Level design VotingBallisticsfood04/05/2008 - 08:12

Voting extended for another 2 days in the hope that it breaks the deadlock and we get a clear winner/runners up.

Re: Level design VotingSir Mystery04/06/2008 - 07:20

I like Teamwork ;D ;D ;D

Re: Level design VotingThe Happy Friar04/06/2008 - 08:02

could be a "musical chairs" type vote.

first you eliminate the people with the lowest votes (0's in this case).

New vote.  Eliminate people with lowest votes.

Etc. until there's 1 person left.  Make each "round" last a day, announce it's lasting a day a few days ahead of time so people don't go "WTF?!  I didn't know!".

Re: Level design VotingBallisticsfood04/06/2008 - 08:19

Right. I'm gonna edit the poll to take out all but the top 4, vote from there for whatever you will.

PS: Votes are also getting reset to 0.

Re: Level design VotingCarp04/07/2008 - 18:19

Ach, a 3-way tie...three cheers for democracy. ::)

Re: Level design VotingTwentySeven04/07/2008 - 19:42

I think Teamworks won it twice now.

Although I dont see why we cant have a 1st 2nd and 3rd ^_^.  ;D

Re: Level design VotingDil99904/07/2008 - 20:34

It won by almost twice last time- look at the difference.  The less contestants each round means the more accurate poll we will have, so I think we should do at least 1 more.

Re: Level design VotingBallisticsfood04/08/2008 - 10:58

!! once more? Well, if anyone else wants another round, you can have it. Otherwise 'Teamwork' will be the winner and 'The Big Nasty Rock' and 'The Path of Least Resistance' will be the runner up maps. Your input over which idea is best will probably decide whethwer is stays open or not, but I have to close it sometime soon!

Patiently Waiting

Indeed.  I don't remember how many people voted during the last round for sure. 11 voted this time, and I'm pretty sure that almost 20 voted last time.  Quite possibly, people didn't return or didn't know about this round.  So the results couldn't really be related to the prior round.  But, I'm all for a decisive known winner.  That's how the NCAAs do it. Wink  Take it to the final 2.

Re: Level design VotingBallisticsfood04/08/2008 - 16:31

I cant. There's 2 levels tying for second place!

Re: Level design Votingdavid.mcgraw04/08/2008 - 18:24

I blame the bunny...

Re: Level design VotingCarp04/08/2008 - 19:37

It might be a tad late for this particular case, but I just remembered something really interesting I found in the Great Wiki:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Instant-Runoff_Voting
In a nutshell, everyone ranks their choices. If a candidate has a majority by voter's first choice, he/she is elected. If not, the candidate with the least number of first-choice votes is eliminated, and those votes then go to those voters' second-choice candidates, and so on until someone has a majority.
It covers all possible runoff combinations at once, saving time and discouraging tactical voting. Admittedly, it'd be a tad tricky to implement on the forums, but...I don't know, perhaps the poll feature could be updated?

Re: Level design VotingDil99904/08/2008 - 22:07

Sounds like a good idea.

Re: Level design VotingTwentySeven04/08/2008 - 22:28

I Happily concede for 3rd place.  There?  Announce a winner already.

Re: Level design VotingDil99904/08/2008 - 22:31

Ok then, I'm overruled!

I hereby announce with my mod powers, that Dave McGraw's level, Teamwork, is the winner of the Level Design Competition!

Re: Level design VotingBallisticsfood04/09/2008 - 04:19

Thanks Dil, i was offline and couldn't see the rather intersting debates, but i fully agre with your useage of your mod powers.

Well done Teamwork!

Re: Level design VotingThe Happy Friar04/09/2008 - 07:46

so he gets to be in the game as a new type of goo now, right?  :)

Re: Level design Votingkyle04/09/2008 - 12:44

Dave McGraw wins! I'll see about working this award-winning design into the game. Maybe some of the others too? Seems like we should also make a "competition winners" section in the credits.

Re: Level design Votingdavid.mcgraw04/09/2008 - 17:46

Awesome!  Thanks for voting everybody!

Re: Level design Votingt104/10/2008 - 16:57

I'm surprised I got a vote, thanks people.. and big congratulations Dave!!  :)

If you guys decide to hold another competition at some point, I'll try and put a little more thought into a level design!  ;)
