Re: World of Goo 2DEFE11/23/2008 - 20:30

I remember reading in an article somewhere that Kyle or Ron had stated that there wouldn't be a World of Goo 2. I hope that article was wrong, or that they have a change of heart. Still, if there isn't a World of Goo 2 I'm sure 2DBoy will come out with something just as good, or even better.

Re: World of Goo 2techturkey11/23/2008 - 21:43

Merci Buckets  ;D

Re: World of Goo 2Thelen11/23/2008 - 23:11

Just open up a new server, patch the game, and let users create maps, just like TrackMania... that would pwn!

Re: World of Goo 2wolfy2k411/24/2008 - 07:31

After the incredible amount of piracy that's hit this release, I doubt they feel encouraged to make a sequel. I know I wouldn't. :(

Re: World of Goo 2Jazz Ad11/24/2008 - 07:49

Moot point. It hasn't been pirated more or less than any other game.

I don't think it's moot. As in this case the piracy is directly affecting just a few guys who have worked their asses off to give us this game. Of course the large game companies still take a massive hit, but their employees I suspect are still paid the same. Stealing from 2Dboy feels like it's literally mugging Kyle and Ron in the street.  :-\

Re: World of Goo 2Boudin12/02/2008 - 06:55

Please stop with this piracy thing. The statistics provided by Kyle and Ron were informative, they were an estimation, I don't think Kyle and Ron are living under bridges now because some people have downloaded the game and the most important is how good are the sales, not how good is the piracy.

Anyway, I would like a World of Goo 2

Re: World of Goo 2The Happy Friar12/02/2008 - 11:59

there was a doom 3 & will be a doom 4 even though people said the best place to get id games if from pirate bay (proof people buy games, companies make enough $$ to make more & profit & companies don't loose much $$ from piracy: most pirates don't buy anyway, look at the threads here!).

I'm iffy on WoG2.  WoG was awesome, unless the next one blew me away, odds are I wouldn't get it.  I'd like to see something different from them.  Perhaps instead of a WoG2 it's something like Universe of Goo where it's similar in concept but completely new.

Re: World of Goo 2Boudin12/02/2008 - 12:49

I think there's plenty of way to add new ideas to world of goo universe.
Before the game was released, I feared that the game would be linear but I've been astonished by the works done to avoid this (using fire, pieces of information, infected goos etc...). I'm confident on a sequel ^^

But a totaly new game would be great to :)

Make me keep loving you 2DBoy !

Re: World of Goo 2klaus12/02/2008 - 14:14

Personally, I think an add-on would be the best idea for now - let's have another planet full of crazy worlds :)

Only 1 in 4 World of Goo's are licensed copies. Thats only 25% of their work back.

Re: World of Goo 2Stickybomb6704/13/2009 - 20:26

I loved the game, but was enraged when I heard there would be no sequel. With that cliffhanger at the end, I think a sequel is deserved.
And for all you out there reading this: don't pirate games.
It's bad enough for it to be illegal, but with awesome guys like Kyle and Ron, stealing from them is even worse than breaking the law.
I will not rest until I report every pirate to the moderator.
Most of all, it is so uncool.

Re: World of Goo 2Smurfy04/14/2009 - 18:46

I hope there isn't a WoG 2, and there won't be. Here's why:

-They've already done all the good puzzles and their variations.
-It would ruin the open ending.
-They've got other ideas that they want to work on.

Good second point.
They knew that add-ins were open to WoG, since they released some. Now I think the ending was supposed to say:
"Hey! Here's a brand-spanking-new world for you to develop! What the heck are you waiting for?"
I also think Kyle will have plenty of awesome games and Ron will be ready to program them.
Looking forward to the next game, 2D BOY!

Re: World of Goo 2Twin04/24/2009 - 07:55

I think 2D Boy should release World of Goo for the Nintendo DS, the format is perfect for it. This would then help them to make the money the rightly deserve for this piece of gaming excellence....

Anyone agree? Surely a major release on a handheld console would thrust 2D Boy more into the spotlight, espcially if it got the attention it deserves. They could even develop some multi player angle where 2 players compete on one map or something.....

Re: World of Goo 2Mightylink05/07/2009 - 07:12

Granted World of Goo can be beaten in a day but theres so much more to do, you can build the tallest tower you can and submit it to the leaderboards, also try to get every levels OCD and the best part about the pc version is the mods, there is already lots out there and even very easy to use level builders.

I can see custom levels coming out more and more, it will be an onslaught of user content much like littlebigplanet, hopefully 2dboy will add there own level editor in a future patch for the wii, if not there are still 2 or 3 good ones for the pc.

Re: World of Goo 2flagpole05/08/2009 - 09:23

it's a funny thread this with people feeling they can speak on behalf of the developers.

Much has been made of the piracy issue, and extrapolated into why there wont be a sequel. i see it as quite the opposite.

the piracy has exposed the game to so many people that wouldn't have seen it otherwise. the best way to cash in on this would be to release a sequel probably with some DRM. take the positive, out of the situation.

a lot of people will buy the sequel who pirated the first one, partly i suspect out of guilt for ripping off an indie game, partly BOGOF. it'll sell. either they want to make money, in which case they will release a sequel, or they don't, in which case there's no need to stress about the piracy.

Two votes from me. I'd pick up World of Goo for the DS the day it was released!

I doubt it. People who pirate use twisted logic to justify their actions. 1) Its too expensive. 2) They make enough money already. 3) Why is it so cheap, it must be garbage 4) etc. etc.

I work in the software industry and it is appalling how many peers pirate music, buy pirated movies, hack their DS or PSP, hack their game consoles, pirate satellite TV, etc. etc.

It is a way of life for them know, they have no scruples and there is no turning back for them. The only way to have any impact is for new generations to have ethics classes early in education so they know what behavior is right and wrong, because they won't learn that from their pirating parents.

Re: World of Goo 2Stickybomb6705/10/2009 - 12:55

EVER. >:(

Re: World of Goo 2BloxWorld05/10/2009 - 18:18

WoG 2 isn't really needed, is it?

There are endless possibilities w/ GooTool.

Yet, a secret would be freakin' sweet :o

Nope. All they've done is quote 2DBoy's comments made elsewhere.

Quote:

I don't recall 2DBoy saying that piracy would stop them from making ANY game, just that DRM doesn't work and isn't worth the effort.

I love to know how you work that out when all evidence points to the exact opposite. That sequals are usuall MORE pirated than the origianl.

interesting deconstruction.

points 1 & 2 are inconsistent. many people have suggested on this forum that the piracy will prevent the release of a sequel, either they are quoting '2DBoy's comments made elsewhere' as you say or they are not but if you are right about that then point 2 is clearly wrong. they are mutually exclusive positions. and as it happens i think they are both wrong.

re point 3, as i think i made clear by saying 'i see it as' my final point was based on intelligent conjecture, empathy and common sense. it is my point of view and was expressed on that basis. i can't tell you 'where i got that from' because i explained my reasoning in the post.

you respond with uncited 'evidence' and miss the subtleties of the reasoning completely. for the reasons i have suggested i view WOG2 as atypical. i see no reason to reiterate what i said the first time.

I was refering to 2DBoy saying there will NOT be a WoG2 as they are working on other projects as stated in an interview with a gaming site. As for others on this forum that are saying piracy will prevent a sequal, that is their opinion, and usually only stated by the few people who haven't yet accepted that there will NOT be a WoG2 as they are working on other projects. I hope that's made that point clear enough... ;D

Read their blog on this site to see their thoughts on DRM. :D

With regards your 3rd point. I didn't "miss the subtleties of the reasoning completely". They are wrong! :) Just do a proper search on the net for piracy rates on games and their sequals and you'll see EXACTLY what I said happens. ::)

Re: World of Goo 2flagpole05/13/2009 - 03:22

Oh i'm sorry, i didn't realise you'd googled piracy. no if you have 'searched' for the details of a hypothetical future event then you must be right. WOG must be exactly the same as every other came that has gone before it and any attempt to intelligently reason a different opinion is, of course wrong.

You would presumably be willing to entertain the possibility that the circumstances surrounding WOG2 could perhaps be slightly different than COD5??? No?? Yes?? google that.

Re: World of Goo 2TheHermit05/13/2009 - 11:00

Certainly!  :D

Ok... Borrowed a Tardis, jumped forward two years, googled for Wog2  and guess what... it never got pirated! :o

Why? ???

BECAUSE IT IS A GAME THAT WILL NOT BE MADE (according to 2DBOY themselves)

You really do seem to be missing that one vital point for some reason... ;D

Maybe if I use a different colour and bigger font:
2DBOY HAVE PREVIOUSLY STATED IN AN INTERVIEW FOR A GAMING MAGAZINE/WEBSITE THAT THEY WILL NOT BE DOING A SEQUAL AS THEY HAVE SEVERAL OTHER IDEAS THEY WISH TO WORK ON

I hope that's cleared that up... ::)

I think they don't want to ruin it if their sequel isn't very good.
Plus, we know that they have another idea. I think it was, 'The Sophomore Experience: Professional Mediocrity' or something like that.

Well, 2D Boy CAN be random. Look at Wog! Ask MOM? A Beauty Power Generator? "3D"? Goo, for goo-dness sake! Goo is random! Who would of ever thought "Hey, I just got an idea. Let's make a game with goo, a generator that looks like a lady, and a search engine called 'Ask MOM'." No one. It was randomly thought of. I still beleive that it is that name.

I'm not saying it can't, and I've been a random connoisseur for the past year. I'm doing some rewiring and renovation, though. I'm just quoting what davidc said.

Oh, ok. But, come on! Goo IS random. If you go up to someone and say, "Do you know what a goo ball is?" they'll look at you like you're crazy. (Well, unless they DO know what a goo ball is.) But, ill bet 20 bucks it is that name. (If only I had 20 bucks....)

Since you can't get WoG 2 use Goo Editor or Gootool. They are awesome and legal. As far as I know. They are slightly confusing though [move]I need help with it![/move] Anyone who is experienced with it tell me how to make an addin instead of using Gooeditor. I cant get it to play the levels I make!

It is a bit hard to understand but once you got it it is easy to make an addin. Start here.  Read everything... When you make a level in WoG editor and all necessary addin files zip it and change    *.zip    to    *.goomod  that is it, :)
