But... the widescreen resolutions are still not fixed! Aspect ratio is okay, but the picture is still zoomed in, cutting off the upper and lower part of the screen compared to standard 800x600, rather than zooming out to give more field view to the left and the right...  :(

Actually the steam version is not 1.30 yet, game updates always get on steam news and wog wasn't on there, also as far as I know valve has to approve patches so non valve games always get updated later on steam.

Something giving a breakdown of what is to be fixed would be great! As far as I see there is a patch with wide screen problems, though I am on a 1440x900 resolution, and see nothing wrong. The second quote worries me so I'm not entirely sure if I even need the patch right now. Any info would be awesome!

Well thought I'd patch my World of Goo.

Profile of previous saved data was erased. Along with my backup of my progress appears to not copy over and save where I previously was.

Guess I'll have to play through again, which is fine, was just working to get 300 Goos for Goo Corp though :\

I believe that's a known issue, your stuff is still there, it's just in a different location, I don't remeber where though, search teh forums :D

I moved my stuff from directory: ProgramData to Directory Appdata and it did not fix properly, actually after playing to Chapter 2, and then copying this (to see if it would work) it set me back to 1/2 way through Chapter 1.

oh well I'm playing it again :P

So, anybody know if the download of version 1.3 patch (linked on the first post of this thread) works with the Direct2Drive version of WOG? The D2D store page says it's version 1.2, I just checked.

D2D has no listing of any patch for WOG on their patches page.

I have downloaded the patch from the link provided at the first post, but just want to know if it will work for ALL versions of the game, Digitally purchased and Disk versions. I have D2D version and don't want to mes up my install of WOG.

can´t change my resolution in game. i think there is an option for it in-game, or?

but one feature have the update for steam: WoG started without steam. but it is then save the achievements?

ok look guys, for those of you who got the patch and installed it (1.3), then do this to change your resolution cus obviously, theres no settings in world of goo...

If you'd like to change the screen resolution of World of Goo you can edit the config file.

This is located at for Windows: C:\Program Files\WorldOfGoo\properties\config.txt
for Vista: C:\Program Files (86)\WorldOfGoo\properties\config.txt
for Steam Windows: C:\Program Files\Steam\Steamapps\Common\WorldOfGoo\properties\config.txt
for Steam Vista: C:\Program Files (86)\Steam\Steamapps\Common\WorldOfGoo\properties\config.txt

Edit this file to set your desired screen resolution.
And ignore the warning... by the sign painter...  just a joke...

Next patch?  I'm still waiting for THIS patch to come out on steam.  As well as patch notes.

I have the Steam version and I confirm that Steam does NOT have the patch. But if you're desperate enough, you can still install it. Make a copy of the folder <C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\world of goo> and put it somewhere. Then run the patching program and tell it to install to the location of the new folder. Then when you want to play, browse to that folder and double-click on WorldOfGoo.exe.

Will there be a new patch for new languages (for example Polish)?

Is this ever coming out for Steam? I really hate it when devs keep quiet about important issues like this.

My guess is that the patch isn't quite ready for prime-time (see how there's no mention of it on the news/files pages?) and they're going to fix it up a bit before releasing it through Steam.

The thing that bugs me is that they obvious do read the forum from time to time, so I don't know why they wouldn't at least poke their heads in and say something.

Sorry, if that sounds a bit harsh, but imho you should care more about the honest customers that bought the game and are waiting for patches and fixes, rather then worrying about the ones that didn't buy it ...

I just manually patched my steam version and everything works fine, it didn't mess up my profile or anything and the game works perfectly in 1440x900.
You just need to point the installer to the correct folder, the standard is : c:\program files\steam\steamapps\common\world of goo

I bought the game from Impulse and patched successfully. But Impulse still shows 1.00.000 as the installed version. I think this one is a compatibility patch, I didn't notice anything new so Wiiware users simply don't need this. According to the setup details some sound effects were extracted to the game directory but they are the same as before. Also, I have no problem with the game's resolution thanks to the DVI output. I found the default one (800X600) better than my monitor's native 1440X900 res.

2-D boy is abandoning the wii-ware aditionTheve already got a wi fi service so just give it to them once they to corporation..

Steam - This is up to Valve. However you can actually use the patch from this website to patch the steam version.

Wii - No. All the fixes 1.00->1.30 were for the PC version, with the single exception of being able to replay MOM's Computer, so it's mostly pointless. Given the enormous process necessary to get a patch approved and out through Wiiware, I can pretty confidently suggest there won't be a patch simply to fix MOM's Computer.

I thought of doing that. However, often patches are more trouble than their worth and unless I know I am not up to date I won't bother. Also, there are times when trying to patch when you don't need to can raise havoc. Really, can't someone in the know answer this question? Someone else asked it much earlier also. It may seem like a simple question and there may be a really simple answer and method, but I've yet to find it.

You can play MOM's Computer level in Chapter 4 and then replay it. If Everything works fine, you got 1.30, if doesn't, you got 1.00 version!  :D

If have 1.0 version you can play MOM level only once. When you play second time it says: MOM isn't here or something like that and you have to press Alt-F4 to play another level. In 1.30 that problem is fixed!

One of the benefits of Steam is automatic updates. Every game company does it, and it's one of the primary reasons for buying games on Steam. Why can't 2D Boy be bothered to take a few hours and submit their patch for verification?

How do I know they haven't? Well, they haven't responded to the forums, they haven't responded to support e-mail, they haven't posted anything on their blog, they've said NOTHING about the profanity pack, and other indie developers got their updates out almost immediately. This leads me to believe that they don't bother to keep in touch with their community anymore.

Take a look around these forums and you'll see that Ron & Kyle have posted many times in response to people's questions and helped supply valuable information about their copyrighted work to the authors of GooTool, the level editor, mod makers, game developers and other interested folks. Yes that's right, two guys, not a "small company" with dedicated customer support with time available to answer every repeated question over and over because the person asking can't be bothered to see if it's already be answered several times already.

2DBoy don't own Steam, neither do any of the other small developers that updates seem to have been "lost" for. They can not force Steam to anything.

One of the reasons I got this game for Steam (instead of the arguably better DRM-free version) was the implied promise that updates would be automatic. With Steam, your library is centralized, which means no more scouring the internet for the latest patches whenever you want to play a game. Is that really too much to ask? It might not be a big deal to you, but it's a big deal to me and to others on the Steam WoG forums. If I had known this would happen, I would have bought the game from 2DBoy directly.

As a developer, it's your responsibility to support all your platforms. If you don't think you can handle the Valve verification process, then don't put your game out on Steam.

2DBoy might post a lot in these forums, but why does this 5-page thread (with others commenting on the conspicuous absense of Steam updates!) and the profanity pack thread get no attention? Heck, I'd be overjoyed if they at least acknowledged this problem.

EDIT: Looking at kyle's posting history, it seems he occasionally visits the Support boards. Perhaps he's simply not aware of the discussion in this thread. I'll try posting there.

You are mistaking Steam (a downloadable content delivery system) for a gaming platform.

Platforms that WoG is available on: PC (Windows & Linux), Mac & Wii.

Patch is available for Windows (which is the platform Steam runs on) from the first page of this thread.

Nope. The list points out that the patch is available from 2DBoy themselves and that it works with the Steam version.
The only "naughty" things on that list are the games that have had updates that DO NOT work with Steam versions.

That's your perogative, and I (obviously!) disagree. I'm trying to help those who want to patch their Steam copies. I find it an insult to human intelligence that some PC users seem unable to apply software patches themselves and have to have everything "babyfed" to them". Different people find different things annoying, that's what makes each of us who we are. ;)

It doesn't cause any problems unless YOU the user tell Steam to "verify integrity of the game cache". So all the Steam users can use the official patch without any worries, as the vast majority of those who have applied the patch do. If/when Steam ever does do the update THEN it will spot the files aren't what it expects and correct them then.
