Xserver / Gnome crashgoob02/15/2009 - 10:16

Hi There,

I just bought the game and it ran very nice the first couple of times. But now, when i start the app gnome seems to crash and send me right back to the gnome login screen.

System:
Ubuntu 8.10 Gnome desktop env
Amilo SI 1520 notebook with intel GMA 945 graphics.
(Dual)screen: Laptop screen off, external on.

since there is no error message i really dont know where to look :(

I'm having the same problem.  It worked initially, but then X started crashing, sending me back to the login screen.  Currently running Ubuntu intrepid, compiz fusion, with an nvidia graphics card.  Will post other details if needed.

Very strange... Could you try with Compiz disabled, and see if that helps?

Another thing you might try is if the game will run in windowed mode. You will need to edit the file /opt/WorldOfGoo/properties/config.txt for that, and set "fullscreen" to "false".

Finally, could you post the top 20 lines or so from the logfile at $HOME/WorldOfGoo/WorldOfGoo.log?

A friend who bought the game and I are both experiencing the same problems, and we both have Intel graphics cards. We both assumed it was just shoddy graphics drivers.

Disabling Compiz seems to do the trick.  Here is the complete log after one of the crashes.

[t=0.00] Loading persistent data...
[t=0.00] Locale en_US.UTF-8 matched to language en.
[t=0.00] Primary language: en
[t=0.00] InhibitGnomeScreensaver destructor: killing child process 856...

Too bad, I wish I didn't have to disable Compiz, but it takes two seconds so its not a big deal.  Thank you so much for making a linux version!
