I recently purchased World of Goo during Steam's $5 sale, but I'm having great difficulty starting the game. Whenever I launch it (even with admin rights), the game goes to a black screen, then freezes. Moving my mouse boots it out to a "Windows is checking for problems" screen, and the program is shut down.
One time, I minimized the window while the program was in the black-screen state, and there was a "Fatal Error" window opened by World of Goo. It contained the following message:
Exception: Access Violation (code 0xc0000005) at address 004898C3 in thread 984 Module: WorldOfGoo.exe Logical Address: 0001:000888C3

I remember having similar issues with the demo, and I'm not sure how they were resolved. I think that it randomly decided to work temporarily one day.
Can anyone help me out?
EDIT: Problem solved! I was made aware that Threatfire and World of Goo cannot peacefully co-exist. Options are:
- Uninstalling Threatfire - Shutting Threatfire down while playing World of Goo - In order to shut down ThreatFire, you must hold ctrl and right-click on the tray icon, selecting "exit." then, in a run command, type "net stop threatfire" and this will shut down ThreatFire, instead of having to uninstall." - Making World of Goo an exception in Threatfire's Advanced Controls window. - This won't work if World of Goo was purchased through Steam.
