Goo soundfx but no music

Playing World of Goo on my EeePc 901. I get no sound/music until I get in to a level. Then all I hear is the goo noises.

Tried both the normal install and steam version. Also tried newer sound drivers and turning on dolby surround.

Can anyone help? This ones got me stumped.

Not having any other sound problems with other games as far as I can tell.

Yeah, I've searched for sound and music problems but I couldn't find anything related.
Also I just tried to see if it's a codec problem but the ogg files play fine in other programs.
Also tried uninstalling k-lite, no luck :(

Yeah, I had the patch too.

My folks have now nicked my laptop while they go on holiday, I'll see what I can do in 2 weeks.
