I think that's a problem with your ThreatFire firewall software; see also e.g. here:
- running world of goo with ThreatFire
- ThreatFire and World of Goo = crash on startup
Have you installed the version 1.3 patch by the way? It resolved some issues (although I'm not sure this particular one was included; as far as I understand it, it was a problem with the firewall, not the game per se). |
See the problem is that I don't have ThreatFire firewall the only thing I have is Spyware Doctor and I tried disabling it but no dice. Anything else that I can do to fix it? I really want to play it :(. Oh I also installed 1.3 update but no deal. |

Same story for me: Exact same error; no ThreatFire; yes Spyware Doctor; tried disabling Spyware Doctor; tried installing 1.3 update.
Makes me suspicious of Spyware Doctor. Perhaps I'll try uninstalling it... |
Keiran! Good news! It is Spyware Doctor!
Rather than temporarily disabling Spyware Doctor, right-click on the Spyware Doctor system tray icon and choose "Shutdown." It will warn you that you'll need to restart the computer to completely disable Spyware Doctor, and that's what I did; I don't know if it would work without restarting. But when the computer restarted, WoG ran just fine.
I created a new topic titled "Access violation on startup fixed by disabling Spyware Doctor" linking back to this thread, to make it more discoverable.
