Unable to connect to internetKaiserB_uk10/17/2009 - 15:23

Hi,

In the World of Goo Corporation I can't connect to internet.  I suspect it's because I have two active network connections (one to the internet, one to a NAS), is there anywhere I can force the outgoing IP address?

Cheers...

Re: Unable to connect to internetSoultaker10/17/2009 - 15:37

Not to worry, this is a temporary problem on 2D Boy's side. Your network connection is probably fine!

FYI: World of Goo uses an HTTPS connection to connect to the internet. If you can visit this website: https://www.worldofgoo.com/ without using a proxy, then your internet connection is fine. If you use a proxy, you may have to manually configure the game to use it.

Re: Unable to connect to internetPawemix10/18/2009 - 03:52

Hmmmm... I have this problem too...  I`ve got a modem. All will be fine? :-\

Re: Unable to connect to internetanubisg110/19/2009 - 07:42

same issue here

Re: Unable to connect to internetPiyh10/19/2009 - 10:14

Same issue.  If the servers are down or something I'd really like at least a blog post or something acknowledging it.  I have a standard wired internet connection and have had no problems like this with any other game. Nobody seems to have a fix for this, I disabled all of my extra network connections and no dice.  HALP

64-bit Vista here, checked my firewall and everything

I also have this problem. I have a wireless connection and I am using Windows Vista Basic. I haven't tried it in Ubuntu yet because I broke it and have to reinstall.

Re: Unable to connect to internetGhostEVEs10/20/2009 - 02:26

Thought I was the only problem with this...

I have wireless cable internet and everything works fine but can't connect to the internet when playing the Goo Corp level.  :-\

Re: Unable to connect to internetpredalpha10/20/2009 - 06:19

same for me

Re: Unable to connect to internetGMMan10/21/2009 - 22:09

Using a packet capturer, it seems that there's just a handshake of sorts and then nothing else. It's probably the server refusing connections. Could do with their leaderboard upgrade.

Re: Unable to connect to internetgooguy10/22/2009 - 08:33

iMac running Snow Leopard --- can't connect.

Re: Unable to connect to internetGMMan10/22/2009 - 09:46

People, face it. No one can connect right now. It's best to wait until they finish upgrading the leaderboard (probably next week).

Re: Unable to connect to internetPavke10/22/2009 - 09:54

The leaderboards aren't working! They turn them off because of many hackers and cheaters! Leaderboards are now run by goofans team http://goofans.com/leaderboard

2D Boy probably turned off their server because of birthday sale and huge number of people

Wait until birthday sale ends and then you will get connected ;)

Re: Unable to connect to internetXrayDoc8810/24/2009 - 12:31

Same problem.  Can't connect in Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit.

I'll be patient and hope all is corrected soon.

Re: Unable to connect to internetLVL UP10/25/2009 - 18:47

The sale is over, but I still can't connect.

Re: Unable to connect to internetyoho10/27/2009 - 16:28

Re: Unable to connect to internetTak10/30/2009 - 17:04

same here =(

Re: Unable to connect to internetImrsk00711/02/2009 - 12:54

Does anyone know when the problem is going to get fixed!

Re: Unable to connect to internetdemonpants11/03/2009 - 12:57

I have the Mac OS X version, which I just bought and downloaded during the World of Goo donation birthday event thing. I've read through this post and it appears that version 1.3 fixes the problem, but after glancing through the forum it looks like Mac users are out of luck for that version. When I get the info of the World of Goo app, it says I'm at version 1.0.

So. Are we ever going to see a fix for this? I'd like to be able to examine other peoples' giant goo towers.

Re: Unable to connect to internetToman11/06/2009 - 04:14

- same problem
- please FIX IT!!!!

T. ;)

Re: Unable to connect to internetW.H.Y11/06/2009 - 14:46

Same problem here, on OS X (10.6.1), the about menu shows version 1.30

A fix would be really appreciated  ;)

Re: Unable to connect to internetTheHermit11/07/2009 - 03:51

The problem is that the 2DBoy server is overloaded with people trying to connect in game.

So what have they done to try and fix it?
1 - Bought a faster server with better internet capacity so that everyone is happy
2 - Just switched it off as they've already got your money

Hate to say it, but it isn't the first time they've done option 2! :(

Re: Unable to connect to internetkeybounce11/07/2009 - 20:43

I cannot connect either.

A better question: Can anyone connect?

(10.5.8, PPC mac)

Re: Unable to connect to internetRogerborg11/08/2009 - 10:29

Ditto, borked for me with 1.30 on Ubuntu 9.10. I have no connection issues to any other site.

Re: Unable to connect to internetludovic11/11/2009 - 14:15

Re: Unable to connect to internetfeliiipe11/22/2009 - 12:07

:(

Re: Unable to connect to internetmeridius11/22/2009 - 12:15

Sadly it looks like that guys from 2D Boy just like to get cash (even if for fantastic game!) and then they don't care about users further.

Way to go 2D Boy!  :'(

Hey! Naw, they're just busy.
Let's try asking again.

Re: Unable to connect to internetkyle11/22/2009 - 16:56

Hey, thanks, StickyBomb, for letting me know about this thread.

As I've mentioned to several folks over email, we had to temporarily disable the leaderboard script on our server to handle all the new players the Birthday Sale brought in.  We're thrilled to have so many new players, but as we've discovered, our server admin skills aren't the greatest. (We're much better at making games.) We'll try and get it going again this week.

Re: Unable to connect to internetXrayDoc8811/25/2009 - 13:27

I read back on October 17th that there was a temporary problem with the online server.  I still cannot connect online to compare towers.  Is this being addressed?  Do I need to do something different?

Re: Unable to connect to internetspazturtle11/25/2009 - 15:29

They are going to try the get the servers up again this weekend, just hang in there.

Re: Unable to connect to internetToman11/25/2009 - 16:15

PLEASE, REPAIR IT!!!! Thanxs

Re: Unable to connect to internetkyle11/25/2009 - 23:00

Well, it's back online for now. Fingers crossed, Goo Builders.

Re: Unable to connect to internetGMMan11/26/2009 - 21:25

Whoohoo! Man, is online cool. Pretty awesome. Even the clouds have physics. Now if I could just prevent my tower from falling down when I'm not watching what those goo balls are doing while I'm working on my other tower...

Re: Unable to connect to internetAldenteVonTino11/28/2009 - 09:36

Goo-d Morning to you all!
;D
I was given WOG as a gift a few weeks back and have actually finished the entire game, save for (many) OCD's not completed (Am working on that!)
::)
A few days ago I noticed online connection was finally restored, and I was enjoying the 'contest' between my tower and the clouds. Some would suddenly vanish (I assume fallen or logged out), others suddenly appeared (I assume just starting again) and others would float up (or down) depending. Such fun!
:D
Suddenly, starting yesterday, I see no more clouds! The sign still shows the message about the other clouds as if I'm still connected.
:o
Anyone have any ideas/suggestions why I see no clouds? Has anyone seen MY cloud?
???
Thanks!
Goo-d Day!

Re: Unable to connect to internetGMMan11/28/2009 - 11:18

Well, if the message is still there, that means your connection to the clouds server is good. There might not be many people at your height connected, so you might not see anyone. Also, clouds update sort of slow. I see them introduced a couple at a time, and then a few more after a while.

Re: Unable to connect to internetAldenteVonTino11/29/2009 - 12:04

Well I spent a great deal of time last night working on my tower (which keeps falling over, darn Gooballs), and I didn't see anyone, anywhere. I've noticed I could see the clouds at many different levels, mostly below 20m, and from different countries. I've even managed to (barely) hit 30m before it lost stability and still no clouds, even below me.
I'm curious, maybe I need to be logged in somewhere maybe, and I wasn't thinking when I logged out? Maybe there is a file that somehow is getting blocked by my firewall? (Still would like to know if anyone sees MY cloud, as that might let me know about the firewall issue, concerning MY info getting passed along...)
???

Re: Unable to connect to internetgoofoffjw11/29/2009 - 19:22

I'm definitely unable to connect to the World of Goo Servers. I just got the game off of Steam during their one-day sale, and I thought maybe it wasn't working because I'm on a rather restrictive ISP, but I read it only uses the HTTPS port, and I know that's not blocked.

I'm just wondering if it's not working because of something I'm doing wrong or if the servers are down at the moment. If anyone has any advice, I'd appreciate the help.

Re: Unable to connect to internetndench11/30/2009 - 09:17

It's not just you. I got the game off the Steam one day sale this morning (very early, UK time -- about 6am), and I was unable to connect to the server even at that time, which I guess would be late at night in the US. Perhaps the Steam sale has caused another upsurge in activity.

Re: Unable to connect to internetAldenteVonTino11/30/2009 - 11:09

This could be a goo-d point! The more activity, the more info needs to be handled, and this could mean lack of data getting out. (In the case of me being connected, but not seeing clouds, and maybe even not connecting at all for others?)

Re: Unable to connect to internetreBoow11/30/2009 - 15:07

Does tell on quality of connection with a server that I live in Ukraine?  :)
I am sorry for my bad English..

Re: Unable to connect to internetlap199411/30/2009 - 17:57

I bought the game at the one day sale and I cant connect D: Do I need a 1.3 version? How do I get it with steam? Will this problem be fixed? So many questions without answer...

Please reply :)

Re: Unable to connect to internetkyle11/30/2009 - 18:26

I'm sure all your internet connections are just fine. The game contacts the server over standard https ports, so if you can see https://worldofgoo.com/ then your connection is fine.

The script that communicates with the game disables itself for a few seconds if it detects the server is overloaded, which results in the error message you see in the game. This weekend there was a big sale on Steam, which resulted in lots of people playing this weekend, and probably freaked out the server a little.

Re: Unable to connect to internetreBoow12/01/2009 - 14:10

Kyle!  :D
Thanks for reply.
I will try to connet, when I will be at home. I hope, all be all right.

Re: Unable to connect to internetscream_sayonara12/30/2009 - 23:04

Hi.. I just got this game through steam yesterday for my linux box, and I can't connect to the world of goo corp.. It just has the sign that says "well whatever it says" and the connect button, which only makes the screen flash and does nothing else.

Given that all the forum threads are old, I assume it's available to eveyone else, and I wonder if anyone can give me some advice about how I can try to fix it, or even identify what the problem might be?

Thanks, screamy =)

Re: Unable to connect to internetIBBoard12/31/2009 - 09:35

If you're in Linux then installing Wireshark might help. Grab it from your distro's repos, run it up and start it listening for packets, start World of Goo, go to Goo Corp, try to enable the online stuff, exit World of Goo and check the Wireshark logs. Since it uses HTTPS you won't be able to read the content, but you might be able to find out whether you got a response. You'll just need to ping the main Goo web server to get its IP so that you know what you're looking for :)

Re: Unable to connect to internetSoultaker12/31/2009 - 11:38

Much easier alternative: start the game, try to connect, quit. Open up the logfile at $HOME/.WorldOfGoo/WorldOfGoo.log and see what it says (search for HTTP...)

Re: Unable to connect to internetottakar01/23/2010 - 14:50

Hi googuys

I just install the demo on 2 machines on the same home internet connection, one under ubuntu the other under macOs.
The ubuntu machine find the internet connection imediatly and I can find the other cloud in the goo corporation.
The mac machine don't find it: "Unable to connect".

I'm a newbee under macos, so maybe there is some config to fix this problem

thx googuys

Re: Unable to connect to internetottakar01/24/2010 - 09:42

Re: Unable to connect to internetGMMan01/25/2010 - 15:47

Right... The Mac demo is an really old version. That's probably why.
