i'm gonna look into this.  could you please send me the pers2.dat file?  on XP it's in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\2DBoy\WorldOfGoo, on vista it's in C:\ProgramData\2DBoy\WorldOfGoo.  mail it to support at 2dboy please.

This sounds like the exact same issue I had (my post is down a ways).  I will email you the same info when I get home from work in a few hours.

Similar experience in the corporation. I've sent the file to support as requested.

I have similar but different trouble - my profile file is not created at all.

Folder Application data\2DBoy\WorldOfGoo IS created, but without pref file. Demo version works fine. I tried reinstall game, reboots but without luck.

Notebook, Windows XP, user with admin rights. No troubles on main computer with Vista x64.

I found trouble...

In czech Windows XP is "Application Data" folder named as "Data aplikací" (with looong i at end).

This is from Process Monitor (folder 2DBoy\WorldOfGoo exists, file pers2.dat too (copied from another PC)):

I don't know why but accessing file using different method than testing folders. TRIAL version works fine.

hey everyone, thanks for all the great info and for sending in your pers2.dat files and stack traces.  i'm looking into this strange bug now and hopefully we'll be able to patch soon.  it's a weird one.  if you don't mind, let me know where you installed the game.  i think it's unlikely to be related to the installation location, but i just want to be sure. I did not use the default location, it was installed in C:\Yu\Goo\

On the slight chance that this was the cause of the problem, I will now reinstall it in the default location and let you know if it ever crashes like that again.

I used the default location. I did have the preview installed though, and forgot to uninstall it.

Crashed while in the World of Goo Corporation. Install location c:\games\worldofgoo

Any chance whatsoever of getting the lost progress back? Must admit I'm not much
amused right now. Crash = Sh*t happens. Crash + lost savegame = Major Disaster.

EDIT: Scratch that progress-restoration request - I can see by the savegame structure that my save was not simply corrupted when the game crashed, it was completely destroyed.

You may want to hit someone over the head repeatedly with a blunt instrument for that clever bit of programming practice.

Exact same problem. Hadn't quite finished chapter 4, went to World of Goo Corporation, and after about a minute it crashed to the desktop and now my profile is gone (I had a ton of OCD stuff done, too!)

Hey guys, Ron fixed the data loss part of this bug. The download has already been updated, so just use your existing download link to get it. You do not need to uninstall first, just install right over top of your existing copy.

Maybe you already did and I just didn't see it, but might want to put this message somewhere so people can see they need to redownload BEFORE they run into this problem. Sucks to lose all your progress and OCD flags!

I would tend to agree with this.  Presumably this is also a problem on the hard copies people will be getting from stores, so it really ought to be up on the main page or something.

my deepest apologies for this bug.  losing progress is bad enough, but losing OCD flags is enough to drive one mad!  the good news is that the bug is fixed and you can re-download the game using the link you got via email.

Could you maybe send an email to people you have emails for as well? I only came here looking for a fix after losing my progress; and now I realise the fix already existed.  ::)

Dispite this 'glitch' I still love Goo. It's a great game; but it's also a work of art. Keep up the great innovation 2D Boy!

Getting 'cannot connect to db' messages when trying to get the fixed version?

Played all through the game yesterday and lost profile today. As above poster said, can you please send an email out about the bug fixes? Incredibly annoying to find out there was a fix before i played the broken game :(

Hmmmmmm - I did as I was asked by Kyle and downloaded again "right over the top" in the same place.  I've lost everything and my profile now has me back at 34 mins on Chapter 1, when I was previously on Chapter 4.  My Sons profile has vanished totally!

i have the same problem with Czech windows XP i dont have a save file (pers2.dat)when i exit game my profiles just vanish. Can anyone help ppl with czech windows ? my friends and i cant play :(

Hello.  I left a message on the steam forum for this game months ago and it got 170 views but no responses.  I didn't really play the game much since then.  i don't like doing content over that i had completed previously very much. 

I am 'kind of' having the same problem as these other folks.

I was done world 3 and i guess i quit the game and then the next time i played i was back to the first level on world two.  So i didn't go back to world one... just two.  very odd.  I also had the demo installed and I usually make it a habit to uninstall the demo before i get the full game.  I am pretty sure I uninstalled the demo prior to getting the full game from steam.

I recently played (a week ago or so) and got to the windmill level in world two.  Just now I opened the game again and I was back to the first level on world 2 :(

Do you want me to send you my save file as well?

This may or may not be the right thread to post this, but it seems fitting.

Any help would be appreciated.
