Steam World of Goo 'Crash'locomorto10/19/2008 - 03:38

I'm using Vista x64 and strangely, my copy of World of Goo doesn't work there. I say strangely because I have my pre-orded copy and that works fine (I do have to run it as adminstrator though, otherwise 'nothing' happens, see later).

Basically, my issue is that when I try to start World of Goo from steam, 'nothing' happens. I get the preparing to launch window, then a busy cursor (incidentaly what happens when I try to run as non-admin). Then the cursor goes away and nothing has happened (visually). What appears to happen is that World of Goo hangs, because I end up with a rogue process that uses ~10 MB of memory but does nothing (its used <1s of CPU time).

Now, if I run the 2dboy web version of WoG as admin, the game runs normally. Do it for Steam however (by manually going into the steam/steamapps/common/ etc) and WoG puts up this error:
Fatal Error!
An unexpected error has occured!

Exception: Access Violation (code 0xc0000005) at address 0047FA3F in thread 6A4
Module: WorldOfGoo.exe
Logical Address: 0001:0007EA3F

0017FF88 0047FA3F 0001:0007EA3F WorldOfGoo.exe
Params: 7EFDE000 0017FFD4 77ADCFED 7EFDE000

StackWalk failed (error 299)

EAX:00000000 EBX:00000000 ECX:027A0AD0 EDX:001B0E58

I don't really understand why WoG needs admin rights, just from looking at the Program Files folder it seems like it shouldn't touch anything there, and it stores it saves in %AppData% :/
