That's the first paragraph of a very long fatal error message.  The screen goes black and my cursor goes to the center of the screen, the resolution changes, but the second i move my mouse it closes everything, including the fatal error box.  I had to use alt+tab to look at the error box.  Any idea how to fix this?  This is just the demo, by the way.  I want to try it.  Any help would be appreciated.

Also, i've never had the game successfully work.

And I tried uninstalling and reinstalling from another site, also.

i have the exact same problem i bought world of goo on steam and would really like to play it but cant here is my whole error message

if anyone could help me find the answer or at least point me in the right direction it would be awesome

do you guys have any firewall or anti-malware software running?  we've seen cases where that's caused crashes on launch.  in those cases, uninstalling the firewall/antimalware software worked (simply disabling it didn't).  also, if you have more than one computer, it might be worth trying to install it on that one and see if you run into the same problem.

Oh thanks Ron, I tried disabling it, but not uninstalling.  I'll try on another computer.  Glad to see I got a response in one day :)

Just drop by and try to help, right click on the worldofgoo.exe file, pick compatibility, change to run this program in compatibility mode as NT 4.0 and save...it solve the problem for me and I hope this will help for you too...

Okay it turns out I don't have another computer to try it on.  Just in case you wanted to know, my antivirus is AVG free and my firewall thingie is ThreatFire.

jonnie, threatfire is known to cause this problem.  try disabling it to see if that solves the problem.  if not, uninstall it and the problem should go away (this was confirmed by another threatfire user)

Thanks for the confirmation. Disabling it did not help, but so you know, I have given up.  it's not worth uninstalling because my computer often messes up installing stuff, and i'm not risking it.  thanks, though.

According to ThreatFire technical support this is a known issue associated with the DRM software used by World of Goo.  The following is an alternative to uninstalling ThreatFire.  Provided by ThreatFire support:

"As of yet, the only way to solve this issue is to shut down ThreatFire before
playing your game, however this will compromise the security of your
system. In order to shut down ThreatFire, you must hold ctrl and
right-click on the tray icon, selecting "exit." then, in a run command,
type "net stop threatfire" and this will shut down ThreatFire, instead of
having to uninstall."
