I had 2 profiles on this computer, one of which has finished the game. Now they're both gone. Am i to start again or will they be lurking somewhere?

See this thread: http://2dboy.com/forum/index.php?topic=262.0 I didn't mind it happening initially, but it's a little mind-boggling that this hasn't been emailed to everyone who pre-ordered or been posted prominently on the blog. Game save loss is a BIG DEAL guys. Please make this bug more public so people don't have to lose their saves.

I lost my profile too, but there wasn't any crash. I had just finished Chapter 2 and quit the game and powered the pc down for the night. The next day when I booted up the game my profile was gone. :( Is there any way to get my progress back? I don't believe that question was answered in the thread you linked.
