Patches and extras for retail box purchasers?

I want to order a retail boxed version as a gift for Christmas -- will the recipient still be able to download patches, extras, whatever?  Or are updates only available for download customers?

Hi Greenbird, yes, we're working on getting a patch ready that retail versions can use to update. It will be our sooner rather than later, and certainly before christmas!

They just have to download it from this site, as the game does not update itself automatically.
