It's all stretchy and ugh on my monitor. I want it to beautiful. I think I'm going to cry.

Re: Widescreen supportThe Happy Friar12/26/2008 - 16:51

not stretchy on my WS.  You may have something messed up.  Since you didn't give any info, that's how much help you'll end up with.

Re: Widescreen supportOehr12/26/2008 - 19:58

i think your monitor stretches the 800x600 game to your full resolution(like 1680x1050 or something like that). as far as i know, you can manually prevent it in the driver settings.

or just press alt+enter for window mode.

also its possible to change the resolution in the config file of wog, but pressing continue is impossible then...

Re: Widescreen supportAltom12/26/2008 - 20:42

Wasn't the 'continue' issue fixed in version 1.2 ?
I've no problem in 1920*1200...

Re: Widescreen supportKaoro12/29/2008 - 18:36

I too would love to see some true widescreen support.

Games lacking widescreen support in 2008 are a little jarring.

By the way thanks 2D Boy for the Mac OS X version - you got at least one extra customer because of it!

Re: Widescreen supportcreamywhitegoo02/15/2009 - 11:48

Yeah, I'd also like to see 16:9 and 16:10 widescreen support. There are elliptical blobs when they're supposed to be round  :-\

Big thanks for the Linux version. Like Kaoro, that's what's pushing me over the edge to buy it. After trying the demo on my Ubuntu laptop this is a must-buy  :)

Re: Widescreen supportSoultaker02/15/2009 - 13:16

The game does support wide screen resolutions nowadays. The Windows version works well as long as you stick with a vertical resolution of about 600, so you can use 960x600 for a 16:10 window. On the Linux version, almost anything should work, although you may need a high end graphics card to display high resolutions smoothly.

You can edit the resolution in properties\config.txt by the way.

Although it's possible to adjust the resolution to match a widescreen display, the aspect ratio is still fixed to 4:3. The easiest thing to compare this to is blowing up a 4:3 SDTV station to fill a widescreen HDTV. It'll fill the screen, but everyone looks "fat".

No, really. If you set World of Goo to a widescreen resolution with the same aspect ratio of your monitor, then run it full-screen, you will see that your balls are perfectly round. (Are you calling them fat?!)

Doh! You're right. It was all my fault. My balls are perfectly proportioned now :P . My display accepts 1366x768 and 1920x1080. I had it at 1366x768 and the aspect ratio was off, but at 1080p it's fine.

Edit: Yeah, 1360x768 runs faster with proper aspect ratio. It was my fault for using the wrong resolution. Thanks, Soultaker. The issue was PEBKAC as usual.

Re: Widescreen supportBearTM02/16/2009 - 01:45

Running the Linux Demo version, I've set the display resolution (edited config) to 1920 x 1080, full-screen, and it's working and playing great. This is on a 3.5GHz/Core2Duo/8Gb Gnome machine with Compiz & Twinview still enabled (in a window on only one monitor), and on an XFCE4 machine (full screen - single monitor) - both running Ubuntu Intrepid 8.10. Going to see if my kids enjoy the demo as much as I do ... :-)

However, on both machines the overlay 'black bars' are cut off on the edges, and don't extend far enough off to the sides. This means that part of the background is always visible, or some of the OpenGL overlay effects, and other sections have bars still overlapping on the viewable screen.

It's purely a cosmetic thing, but it would be lovely if it could handle the full-screen resolution for a HD monitor. (1920 x 1080 or higher)

Otherwise ... brilliant game! Works great under Ubuntu, even with Compiz & PulseAudio. Needed to set buffer size to 8192 though.

Cheers,
  BearTM

Strange; it seem to work fine for me (in windowed mode, as my monitor doesn't support that resolution). Do you have a screenshot showing what goes wrong?

Tried to attach screen captures ... but the forum software is complaining excessively, and then saying I've already posted (when it just failed), and then not permitting a resubmit, and ... well ... anyways.

I'm unfortunately going to spam the forum with multiple posts to attach individual screen captures ...

Same effect happens whether in full screen or windowed mode.

on my screen widescreen has worked since V1.0

Re: Widescreen supportSoultaker02/18/2009 - 15:18

Thanks for the "spam", BearTM. ;) The resolution in that window appears to be even wider than 1920x1080 (because the vertical resolution is lower). Have you tried running 1920x1080 fullscreen (if that's your native resolution)?

The game should render correctly for aspect ratios between 1.333 and 1.825. What is a bug, is that with wider screens you should get black bars on the sides, but apparently I broke this functionality. It will be included in an update I guess.

Actually, it's not the resolution which is higher, but the aspect ratio which is above your limit. I'd configured up the dimensions to handle a windowed resolution - taking into account the panel bar, and window borders. This config then pushed the aspect ratio above 1.825, which leads to the issues I noticed. Switching to full screen, I didn't restore the dimensions back to 1920x1080 (left at 1912 x 1022 or some such nonsense), and the game uses the hard-coded values, and not the actual  and the issue was then present on full screen and windowed mode. I'm sure this issue would show up when the aspect ratio exceeds your limits.

Changing the game resolution settings in the config to 1920x1080, fullscreen and the artefacts go away. So, anyways ... it's a very low priority issue - the game works perfectly in all respects otherwise.

Cheers! Now ... if only I could figure out how to OCD "Ode to the Bridge Builder" ... always stuck at 37 ... can't quite get 38. Arrrgh!

Re: Widescreen supportSoultaker02/19/2009 - 07:28

Yes, I observed exactly the same things. (Apparently I didn't express myself clear enough.)
In your case I would suggest playing in full screen, which should look perfect.

Re: Widescreen supportjmleleven05/20/2009 - 18:02

I dont know if it matters, but looks like BearTM is using Linux.
