I know, I know.. this is a comercial game and it gives you money.. I am glad about it

But .... I have seen a lot of very good games like this stop being selled and going to the abandonware-hole

Have you guy plans about open sourcing it in the future? (5-10 years?) It would be great to have this game installed by default in our preferred linux distro. And it is more polished thant the majority of the games i've seen in linux...

Well thats all

PS: I bought the game as soon as posible it was available for linux...

I agree. :D
This is the better thing that can happen to WoG in some years.

At least, the code should be released as free software at term.
The data (graphics, levels, balls, text, music) could remain proprietary.
The community will provide free replacements for them.

However, ideally, a complete open WoG will be more than great, once 2D Boy will have released one or some other games, and as soon as WoG won't bring in so much.
I also want the game in my Linux distro. ;)

For now, please consider at least freeing the purchase and download system. :)

Thanks!

What about right now, as part of the Indie Humble Bundle. All 4 other games have promised. This may be a great way to attract open source enthusiasts, as well as to invite people to improve your game (official modding tools, anyone?). The game is already DRM free, and you can keep the actual game data propriety, so you won't be losing revenue, at least.

Here is my vote for open-sourcing! Much better mods can be made with open source :)

Hah. Like they're just gonna open-source code that's made them tens of thousands of dollars.
It's like asking MS to open-source Windows.
It's not gonna happen.

Then why are everyone else in the Humble Indie Bundle open-sourcing their games? Most of them are award winning, and they didn't have a problem with it.

Except the value of Windows comes mostly from it's code. The value of World of Goo comes from the resources. It's not even close to being the same thing.

Good point, though the code can be just as valuable.

For the record, they already released source code for a large part of their game engine. So apparently it's not completely out of the question.

I'm getting the impression the developers don't check the forum at all. Perhaps we should ask the developers directly. Do they have an e-mail?
