World of Goo Corp. Question!Dil99903/06/2008 - 03:15

I've been thinking.  Right now most players have somewhere between 150-200 balls.  Once the next 4 stages come out, players will probably have at least 4 times that, which means WoG Corp.  will be handling a lot of balls at once, and may be laggy.  Do you plan to create some way to not all balls appear on-screen at once (as you use them, more fall) or do you think computers will be able to handle all the balls at once?

This is one we'll have to figure out. It could be as simple as tightening up some of the chapter 1 levels - for instance Tower of Goo and Impale Sticky, you can get over 30 in each of them

I saw an idea on the beta list for a Goo-bucket to store gooballs. That would reduce lag from free-roaming gooballs.

Any thoughts?

I kind of think a large part of the challenge is having a bunch of goo balls running about wreaking havoc on the structure you're trying to build.  Yes, there are mitigating steps that can be taken but the fact is they have to be taken.  I made my gooball storage facility too close to my active structure once and lost a perfectly good tower to rampaging goo balls.

I like the idea of a set limit on screen.  Maybe even less than now, like say 100-200.  When you connect a gooball, a new one drops.  If you make a disconect, pick a random loose ball to disappear.  No one will ever notice the disappearing balls in the chaos and it will all seem pretty transparent from a user standpoint.

Bring on the bucket, IMO. Or make it so you right click and get one to put where you want... since another annoyance is that, as you build higher, you're constantly moving the screen around to find more goos.

as for the goos wrecking havoc on the structure you're trying to make, I'm not sure if the lack of this would make it too easy to build big towers, but it is rather annoying since you can get around it by making a little "goo holder" structure away from your tower. So it's more of just an extra step you need to take now - and, of course - combined with the fact that as you grow bigger, you're constantly having to go down to get another goo... gets tedious fast.

How about making a little blimp full of goo, which follows around on the edge of your screen (like the time bugs).  It would consist of one large unmovable blimp-shaped balloon, and a square of un-affectable (cannot attach to or detach) goo balls, with all the rest of your goo balls on it.
