anything you REALLY want to be able to do in a level?

Re: level wish list?Dil99903/06/2008 - 15:15

Interact with the enviroment more- An example being that you would be able to have certain goo balls which can connect to objects like trees and rocks.
Also, a kinda cool goo idea I had was a stone goo ball, which, once put somewhere, does not move at all (so if you create a square of 4 of them, that square will remain a square no matter what forces are applied to it).

Re: level wish list?Dracolich03/06/2008 - 15:38

I know Kyle said 'REALLY' want but I'm going to take that as 'spit out any ideas you have' because since I saw this game my mind has been going wild with possibilities

I like the different kinds of gooballs stick to different surfaces.  I can foresee a level where you are constantly moving your reattachable gooball structure through a series of red and blue walls while having to manage the two colors... nice.

To further the color idea, yin-yang gooballs.  Only make attachments with their opposite color?

Also I think different surfaces for scenery might be interesting.  Adjust their frictional coefficient.  Yay!  WoG on ICE!

I'd like to see more scenery physics too.  Scales, teeter totters, you name it.  Maybe a chain goo capable of making long thin chains that have to be wrapped around spinning gears to power a lift for a door or something similar?  Or the same chain goo used as a rope to swing a wrecking ball and destroy a wall.

Maybe goos that interact somehow, mod goos if you will.  If you have two goos attached to each other and put the third 'spring goo' to make a triangle the connection between the original two contracts.  Or maybe it's a 'machine' goo and it contracts the connection, then expands it in a cycle.  You could create walking machines that way, all sorts of stuff.

More environmental goo dangers of varying types.  Wind machines that blow your goo structures, flame throwers that don't kill goos but wreak havoc on the connections (thereby requiring you to time your building to get past them and attach on the other side), maybe goo slime that increases the mass of any goo that touches it unless you wash it off in a good clean goo pond.

*looks up at what he's written* Oh, Okay, I'll stop now.  As I said, I've had a lot of possibilities running through my head.  I'm sure much of what I've said is either implausible or would add too much complexity (although, I'd like the game to progressively add complexity) for the audience you're shooting for but there it is.

Re: level wish list?Dil99903/06/2008 - 15:50

I love your ideas.

Re: level wish list?Ballisticsfood03/06/2008 - 17:30

Soo many ideas. So little time.

My first idea is this:
Magnetic gooballs/surfaces. That would be absolutely genius.
"Repel, little gooballs! REPEL!!!!"

On another, altogether less work inducing note:

It'd be quite fun to have something with a conveyor belt.
Or a level where you have to make a structure that can roll away from a moving wall of spikes.
Or, using some form of detachable ball, have to race a moving body of deadly water up a tube.

I'm gonna stop with the ors now and move to a sensible list (or maybe not so sensible, I'm tired and my brain isn't quite working...

1: A level where you have to shoot your gooballs out of a cannon (maybe have some kind of explosive that gets set off when touched by goo?)
2: A level thats like the Tower of Goo level, but incorporating opposing bands of wind, forcing you to build a curvy tower
3: A level with some kind of enemy that occasionally comes and steals a gooball from your structure. Maybe birds, or a giant claw!
4: A level where you have to stay on a moving platform using green gooballs (maybe a minecart, I think one of the chapters is desert-esque, isn't it?
5: A level that makes you use balloons to float a goo stucture across a chasm. You might need wind or something to blow you across, the challenge should be keeping a balance between floating and sinking.
6: A level inside a rocket where you have to build to the launch button/other objectives to get the gooballs inside the rocket to the end.
7: A level with goldfish.

Those 11 (4 above the list) are only a few that I have, but I don't have the energy to keep going and I'm sure you don't really want to hear all of them (do you?).

Re: level wish list?Dil99903/06/2008 - 17:41

Magnetic Balls = The best idea ever!!

Re: level wish list?Hellspark03/07/2008 - 05:35

One thing that I don't like is that sometimes (black goo)
balls get popped by spikes, and sometimes they float in the water.

So, if they miss the spike, they pop anyway. :/

Re: level wish list?Dil99903/07/2008 - 14:57

more variation in what kind of balls you get.  Currently you usually only use one type of ba each level- how about doing things where we start with 10 black, 10 green, and a balloon?  This would give each level many more possibilities of how to beat it.

Re: level wish list?zenpunk03/07/2008 - 16:24

Maybe have a ball or puck (basically, something that doesn't attach to goos, but can be moved by them) where the objective is to move it from one place to another.  You'd have to build goo bridges, boats, balloons, etc to carry the ball or puck to a specific location.  Many inventive ways to move the puck could be thought up.  For instance, imagine building a slingshot of goo, with the puck sitting on it, and using dozens of goo balls as the slingshot, where once the slingshot is 'cocked' you remove one goo ball from a strategic location to drastically reduce the weight of the slingshot, causing it to snap up, throwing the puck to another location.  Stuff like that.

Re: level wish list?bloodbob03/08/2008 - 07:08

A level with wind :P

Oh yeah and the painter has to make a reference to beans!! :P

Re: level wish list?Ballisticsfood03/16/2008 - 11:47

After taking inspiration from nature (once again) I've come up with an awesome level idea. Borrowing profusely from everyones favourite arachnid, the spider, what would happen if you had to make a goo-web to catch things to finish a level? For example, there is a gap that you cannot cross (for one reason or another) To block it you need a ball, which is inside a cannon. If one of your gooballs touches the trigger the ball will shoot out of the cannon. The catch here is that without a gooey net to stop the ball, it will fly over your gooballs and disappear forever, leaving you stranded. To stop the ball, you have to make a goo net capable of halting the ball's movement and making it roll down into the gap.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, so here is a quick illustration of what I mean.

I'd like a second meta game.  Instead of creating the largest tower you can; you start at the edge of a cliff and try to create the longest overhang.  Sort of an Ode to the Bridge Builder level, but without an opposite edge.  I think the challenge would differ enough from the tower builder experience and would lengthen game play.

Re: level wish list?kyle03/16/2008 - 15:58

Nice idea! Maybe we should have a level design competition... :)

Re: level wish list?Ballisticsfood03/16/2008 - 16:13

A level design competition would create lots of zany ideas, methinks.

Zany to the point of having their own kind of event horizon, in fact.

Ooh! Black holes! Level ideas are EVERYWHERE!

Re: level wish list?Dil99903/16/2008 - 16:41

Ooh, level design competition: winner gets his level put into the game and his name somewhere on it.  Someone make a thread for it!

Re: level wish list?Wiggles05/10/2008 - 19:18

Magnetic goos/objects sound awesome.

Re: level wish list?checkers05/20/2008 - 02:38

A suspension bridge level, where you have to build the bridge from two sides at the same time.

Re: level wish list?Macatttack08/14/2008 - 19:22

Rocket goo that shoots forward in the direction you attach it in.  :)

Re: level wish list?Macatttack08/16/2008 - 14:41

I'm in for a design competition. Can I make my entry look really awesome just so people will like it more?  :P

Re: level wish list?Nic Freed08/16/2008 - 17:03

i think levels with living things could always be interesting, as well as a possible boss fight, where in some way you had to get over him-her-it without it crushing you. i have billions more ideas, but not time right now :)

Re: level wish list?Macatttack08/16/2008 - 17:05

yeah, a boss would be cool maybe you would have to build into its mouth and hurt its stomach or something cool like that.  :P

Re: level wish list?Nic Freed08/16/2008 - 17:14

Hi, i had some pretty good goo ideas, check the goo suggestion forum and tell me what u think :)

Re: level wish list?Nic Freed08/16/2008 - 17:15

What about a level with "planets" that had gravitational pulls to help the goo toward the pipe

Re: level wish list?Macatttack08/16/2008 - 17:16

good god your spewing good ideas.  :P

Re: level wish list?Marius08/16/2008 - 20:52

Not to burst your bubbles, but the design competition has already happened a few months back, and the game is nearly done. All levels have already been built, so it's unlikely new ideas will be used any time soon. No harm in fantasizing though, just thought I'd mention it.

Re: level wish list?Macatttack08/16/2008 - 20:58

okay oh well.  ;D

Re: level wish list?Nic Freed08/16/2008 - 22:22

:( oh well, im still thinking up ideas for "world of goo 2" :)

Re: level wish list?Nic Freed08/17/2008 - 17:10

also, just wondering, could the final chapters final level be extremly dificult, and if you finish it unlock infinite goos for W?OG corp. it could definatly add to thehigh score boards

I still want to fantasize!

A level that takes place in a forest and you have to create a bridge for burning zombie villagers who steal goo from the bridge while they run past and you have to keep building. The pipe of that level's inside the village and moves towards the goo.

A level where you have to bulldoze a dam to convert the nature preserve into a summer camp with super-heavy cement goo-things. (Interesting nature/capitolism interaction in the game.)

A level where you have to slide your goo safely down a hill to a pipe.

A level where you have to swing across branches to get to the pipe. Bonus points for swinging the toy (or dead?) monkey to the pipe with you.

A level that takes place during a porno shoot. (You don't really do much.)

A level where you have to climb a structure to feed a group of mini-goos to make them huge goos and be able to get over the gap.

Ah, random creativity is fun. Too bad the contest was over before I heard of the game. (For the more serious ideas . Hey, there were some.)

EDIT:
So is there no chance of added-later features? After the game releases, it's either bug fixes or nothing?

Also: A level where you have to use those balloon goos to get across a gap, then ditch them so you can go into a cave where the pipe is. (Holy crap! A serious idea?) The more goos you try to carry across, the harder your life will be. (It's friken serious!) But it takes place in a warzone and you also have to dodge bullets. (Oh.)

Oh man, too many ideas!

A Goo ball that acts like rubber or jello with increased flexibility. A bridge of Goo balls in this type can act like a trampoline and launch big red Goo balls high up. Building with them would be far more sensitive than with regular goo balls, but they don't implode or collapse inward like normal Goo balls do. Weights or magnetic Goo balls can focus the swaying at certain points of the structure.

In a level, regular Goo balls build a bridge from a blob of rubber Goos. Weights can be added on a certain point which cause the bridge to be lifted upward at an angle, and when enough weights are added the bridge is lifted high enough to reach the exit. It's a crazy idea that needs a lot of experimenting, but my favorite parts in World of Goo were when the tower or structure I was building started to sway like it was made of something other than solid steel. If that component can be highlighted more, I'd love to see what you guys do with it!

Re: level wish list?PaultheDork01/06/2009 - 07:05

I am very sorry for this idea.

I was going over the top ## games of the year from various places, and was glad to see World of Goo in the top tier of most of them.

Then i was thinking, "maybe i should play Portal again... hmmm... Goo... Portal... OH SWEET POOPIES, WHAT HAVE I DONE"

I think it would make a sweet level. But only ONE level.

Why not have a chapter based on all the games the top games of the year it came out. Or a step simpler, a chapter to gaming genres. Maybe it just the 1/2 gallon of caffeine in my system, but the idea would be good after a whole bunch of polishing.

Why am i still writing when i know i should just delete this whole thing...

[=11pt]Isnt that like breaking copyright agreement things?

Re: level wish list?madaco01/22/2009 - 18:10

well if you put the specific name of the game, then yes it would, however if it was just genres, then no. If some starting game developer made a interesting game from a 3g programming language and gave permission, then the guy would get more veiws for his game.
the cake is a lie,no,the cale is a pie, no, the cake is bill nye(the science guy)at luch today i almost chocked on a peice of chicken nugget.

Re: level wish list?The Sign Painter01/23/2009 - 21:48

I like the idea of a luminous goo ball that you use to light your way through a level. If not for innovation, for the excuse to make a luminous goo ball. It would replace the albino goo as my favorite.

Re: level wish list?madaco01/24/2009 - 17:09

ooooh!!!! luminescint gooballs!!! cool!!! someone should make a .goomod with that!!!(sorry am i not supposed to post stuff about mods in this section?)

Re: level wish list?i am goo02/07/2009 - 05:34

I want more levels with yellow spikeball things or skull goos  :o
