There have been several times upon completion of a level when I though, "Damn, my structure/solution to this level was really awesome/unique, I want to share it with others." Sadly, however, it is usually impossible to fit the whole level onto the screen and even then you would have to print screen, and paste it into an image editor. What I would propose is that every time you complete a level, right before it turns off the pipe suction and drops down the pull cord, it zooms out to reveal the entire level, automatically takes a screen shot and puts it into a designated sub folder. Then go on like normal. It could even do this in the background, so that it doesn't appear in game to be any different than it is now. This could of course, be toggled on and off in the options, along with what image format and quality to save images in. This along with a dedicated, "take screen shot and save it to folder" button for manual screen shots would be pretty awesome. |
First post for me, I just had to heartily agree with this! I'd love such a feature myself, if only to relive past glories. A few levels I've really gone "wow, I can't believe this worked". I suppose some maps would be less interesting looking in a "Final" shot than others, as some towers are not very impressive and it's more about just reaching a goal, so that could sour the whole concept of this tool...but on those maps where you've built a bigole Goo tower you're fond of, you really do want to show it off. |
Wow, great idea... I definately +1 this.
Hope to see it implemented. |
Agreed. Although it is possible to conglomerate an entire screenshot by adding different ones together with an image editing tool (*Ahem*PAINT!*cough*), it's a little tedious, and doesn't work if your tower collapses (*Ahem*GOO CORP*cough*).
Conglomerated images can be found in my sig ::) |

Quite aside from the tallent and pizazz which makes WoG special, I think you hit on an interesting point about it here.
The reason it draws us in so much and seems so compelling is that there is a level of emergence which lets us contribute something to the game. We aren't merely following the game designers' train of thought; the game engine and the goals are both flexible enough to cope with input which was not directly anticipated.
I sometimes wonder to what degree such input is actually anticipated by the developers. Give a geek a sandbox, and before too long he will have made a quad-core processor out of it...
I really like the idea of an "auto save history of weird ways to solve a level" - maybe it could ultimately be put on your CV and used to scare people at job interviews?
But I think the idea of emergent gameplay is a fascinating one, and it's interesting to consider WoG in that light.

I have fraps. I do shoot videos of my contraptions with fraps. Too bad it reduces my framerate from 60 to 25.

I am not disagreeing that screen caps should be built into the game.. and I reread and see that you mean capture of a whole screen... maybe a decent zoom function would be good. |
Oh, hey, acutally, that's not a bad idea. Lol, sorry for my previous post :) I would still need to stitch them together though :P |
