Translation Beta this weekkyle11/30/2008 - 19:53

Hey guys, thanks for all your help and advice with translations! We need to submit our final European version this week. I will use whichever translations are available on the wiki (http://hell.student.utwente.nl/wog/mediawiki/index.php/Main_Page) for Spanish, French, German, Italian, and Dutch, as of Monday, December 1 11:59pm according to http://time.gov/timezone.cgi?Pacific/d/-8 After that, I will no longer be able to update the official version with new translations, except for absolute show stoppers we find in the upcoming beta this week.

At midnight, I'll merge those languages into a beta text.xml, and give out new versions of the game to volunteers - I'd like to get at least two beta volunteers per language. Please let me know at http://2dboy.com/contact.php and which language you speak, if you'd like to join the Translation Beta list.

Some important things to look out for:

-"World of Goo" should be untranslated
-"World of Goo Corporation" should be untranslated
-"My Virtual World of Goo Corporation" should be untranslated
-the translation of "Goo Ball" should be consistent throughout each language
-the translation of "MOM" should be consistent throughout each language
-all translated text should fit inside signposts, in MOM's window, in cutscenes, etc (French and German as especially long!)

Re: Translation Beta this weeklittleCoward11/30/2008 - 19:58

i send a message for the german one

Re: Translation Beta this weekManray12/01/2008 - 05:37

I just sent the message. Please, remember that there are a few images not included in the wiki which I added in an appendix en Spanish translation; this can be applied to all other languages.

Re: Translation Beta this weekSoultaker12/01/2008 - 08:45

Will your beta also include all the translated images? And if so, did you create these yourself, or do you want them to be created by volunteers?

For most translations, the text for the images is on the Wiki, but I don't think the images are.

Re: Translation Beta this weekxanax12/01/2008 - 12:54

DarkZonork : ce que je comprends : MOM doit effectivement être traduit dans chaque langue et la traduction doit rester la même tout le long du jeu (pas de MOMAN au début et de MAMAN ensuite).

Edit because of the following Boudin's message :
If I understood well, MOM has to be translated in each language and this translation has to be the same all the text long. It cannot be changed many times, for example : having MOMAN and MAMAN in the game.

Sorry Boudin

Exactement, merci de parler en anglais sur ce sujet, tout le monde n'est pas francophone.

Exactly, please write in english in this subject

Re: Translation Beta this weekE!viS12/01/2008 - 13:56

Ce serait bien, si vous pensez écrire en français, pour que nous puissions non-Français y comprendre.

Re: Translation Beta this weekkyle12/01/2008 - 15:47

Yes, please English here, I only know about 4 words in French.

I'll be making the images myself for the 5 translated languages. For other languages, the image tool looks like a good solution!

Re: Translation Beta this weekkyle12/02/2008 - 19:12

Thanks to everyone who volunteered, I'll be setting up the translation beta email list this evening.

Are any Italian speakers out there? I didn't get an Italian volunteers, so we might have to use the original Italian translation we made. Please let me know asap if you are fluent in Italian and willing to test! There's room for one more French speaker as well. Let me know here - http://2dboy.com/contact.php

No need to send you the file, I've verified that the installer on the German boxed CD is the exact same file as WorldOfGooSetup1.30.exe from the website.

This might not be the case for other countries, however given that the translation "beta" began on 2nd December and lasted 1 week, and the European release was 11th December (and some stores had it earlier than that), I seriously doubt that there would have been time between the 9th and 10th of December to produce thousands of copies and distribute them across Europe.

So that makes me wonder what on earth the translation "beta" was for!

Re: Translation Beta this weeklittleCoward12/12/2008 - 15:33

i wonder what "our whole translation" was for  >:(

Echt zum kotzen! ... translate this RTL

Re: Translation Beta this weekOehr12/12/2008 - 15:55

maybe they were past the deadline... anyways, rtl games is daring! take i look at this scan i received:

first, they put themselves before the developers who did all the work. and then they even list worthless jobs that had nothing to do with the production of wog itself: producer, a long list of some special thank guys and so on.

rtl, you may be in the manual, but in the correct position: LAST PAGE.

also, rtl games was the worst possible choice as the publisher beside EA games. just look at it: RTL PixelSport 2009, RTL Pixathlon 2009, or the joke of a eye training game brain training ripoff Visual Logic Training.

Lets say i never heard of wog and see it in GameStop with a "RTL Games" logo, i will avoid it: after all, they have NO worthy games. well now they have exactly one game. one. which will be buried under shovelware and more shovelware by shovelwaremaster rtl games. and so there are none left. again.

thats my opinion.

EDIT: i want to continue my rant:
there are 2 more pages before the one in the picture which are only about rtl games and NOT wog. then theres one page about possible gaming illnesses and what you should not do(like do not play more than 1h straight, do not turn the light off, dont play when you are sleepy, etc.). now, theres only one page left for explaining the game. quick translations:

Quote:
The Game:
WoG is a physics and puzzle game. There are millions of gooballs(which are "Goo-Bälle" instead of "Goobälle" like in the game itself(as in the beta)) in the wonderful wog. they dont know that they are inside a game nor know that they taste delicious

Installation:
Run WorldOfGooSetup.exe and do what you are told

system requirement:
XP or vista, 1GHz cpu(at least 2Ghz), at least 512MB Ram, 3D Graphicscard and DX9

Control:
Use the mouse

my reaction:
the game:
oh well...

installation:
i think everyone knows that they have to do SOMETHING in order to install the game. since wogs.exe is the only file on the cd, its not even a multiple choice test. too freaking difficult...

system requirement:
check.

control:
DO NOT USE THE KEYBOARD! ITS USELESS! USE THE MOUSE!

beside the artwork in the background(which is the same on all pages), the small manual is completely useless. at least say "dragn drop the balls in order to build" under control or something, but no, its just MOUSE. USE IT.

btw, the special thank crew in the credits of the game are missing in the manual as well as the quality checker Paul Hubans.

Because of this, i will list them all here again!
Dan Adelman and the Mushroom Kingdom
Experimental Friends
Kyle Gray
Shalin Shodhan
Matt Kucic
Jesse Schell
Drew Davidson
Randy Pausch
Aaron Isaksen
Amin Ebadi
Flashbang Boys
IndieBiz
Beta Testers and Forum Peepz
The Goo Balls who didn't make it
Dr. Noopur
Aba ve Ima
Mom and Dad
Madonna the Cat
and
Robert Ramirez as Goo Ball #1

thank you.

Re: Translation Beta this weekdavidc12/12/2008 - 18:13

Hear hear, I was complaining about the credits the other day: http://2dboy.com/forum/index.php/topic,1020.0.html

Screw RTL anyway, they don't seem to be promoting it all despite their potential here. And their distributors are hiding the game away from what I've seen.

I'd be interested if someone called their "hints" line to see if anyone there actually knew any thing about the game!

Also that's my scan :-) and since the cat's out of the bag now, I might as well show the URL for the whole manual, it's http://goofans.com/sites/default/images/manual-de/

Re: Translation Beta this weekdavidc12/12/2008 - 18:16

(It's possible that RTL are the European distributor, I heard Midway in FR are getting it in partnership with RTL, so maybe this was an easy route for 2dboy to handle pan-European distribution without having to negotiate each country. Still, FR aren't getting it until Feb 2008!)

Re: Translation Beta this weekNightFright12/12/2008 - 19:28

Just as I expected. That's why I immediately knew this is a game which is supposed to be purchased ONLINE. No need for a boxed version, they could only screw this up.

Hopefully, at least next download release will contain latest translations...

Re: Translation Beta this weekDrAcid12/28/2008 - 05:59

Guys, I'm sorry for the off-topic, but what do we have to do to get our translation on the translation WIKI? Whom do I have to contact for that? Or what exactly do I have to do on WIKI to get it on there?

Information:
Language: Georgian
Progress: 100%(Images, Fonts, Text)
The project is currently in its final testing stage. I got Guys specially testing it for me for grammatical and other mistakes(misspelling and such). We are finishing before new Year's... I even have created installation package and everything. I would LOVE to get it on official level... If that is possible... :)

P.S.(People, who played the game are delighted by the translation...)

Re: Translation Beta this weekkeke12/29/2008 - 12:01

I tried the game on his cumputer and i really enjoy it.

I'll be back home on friday. I really be glad to try and correct the FRENCH version, as french is my primal language.

Hi,

For the French translation, the game doesn't include the last version. The most recent version can be downloaded >here< (and viewed here). ;) Download the file, put it in the 'properties' folder of the game install directory, and edit the file 'config' to replace 'en' by 'fr' (more explanation here). :)

Then, if you want to talk about the translation, give your suggestions and corrections about it, there is a topic on the forum. :)
Finally, we also have a French forum ! :D

DrAcid wrote:

Contact Soultaker, the wiki was installed and is maintained by him. ;)

There is already a Danish translation. But it seems to be not finished. You can see it>here<.
To test it in the game, read explanations in my previous message in this topic, replacing French by Danish, of course.  ;)

You can always use wiki translations in your game with this tool, so just make your translation and everybody will be able to use it :)
