I'll say this, happy to exclude any user proved to be, or seriously suspected of, or by group concensus "deemed" to be cheating from the initial table.
They can prove themselves with screenshots later.

Though I should point out.. if we omit the users posting those "suspicious" times..
It'll be pretty much just Me, You and Kopa... so far.

I agree! But screenshots can be cheated too. The Cheater is the player who can't explain how he got that score and he is the only one whit it!

There is sort of bug that allow to use the whistle at the beginning of the level in a new profile after getting 2 OCDs in a row just before. Try yourself!

Have tried "alternative" strats... but so far no success

I used "classic"  start too. You have to be perfect! Don't use the top box, shoot from the second one up. Shoot 4 goos from second, 3 goos from third and 3 goos from the fourth box(counting from the top). When you are waiting for the Vine to stop swinging, don't wait! if you are close to the pipe shoot the green goos at that time. 56 sec is absolute limit in classic start, i think. If I use dwerdwer start - 19goos, maybe i can get it in less seconds, but i have to repeat it a 1000 times.  :( >:(

I won't spell it out... but...

Hint #1 : You don't need to wake ALL the sleeping goo's (One side is enough)
Hint #2 : Once awake, they don't NEED to climb up to the chain.

I've added a new column to the chart... Time to OCD

Right now they're (almost) all my times, as I don't have confirmed OCD times for anyone else...
They're actually compiled from my several 100% OCD Elapsed Time runs...
So I was aiming for Excellent Completion Chances (95%+) and Quick...
Not just Quick, but needs 100 retries to get!
So I fully expect most of them to get thoroughly beaten...  so HAVE AT!

Also I won't be posting any more times of my own for a bit, since I sprained 3 fingers on my mouse-hand last night, Playing Basketball.. not WOG!  :P

But don't let that stop you submitting your times.
I can still type ok with my lift hnad...  ;)

By the way, On my 8 move run in RPS, I got 27 seconds which is a record. However this does not show up on the map and you can't get a PrtScr of the end ofc.

Yes, but you should make it only for levels with time OCD's.

In reply to Kopa's early comment in which he was suspicious about RPS 27s, You were quite right but I didn't make it a triangle that run. Furthermore I got lucky that it got through in the first throw, An Ivy line bumped by an Ivy goo, You did Ivy towers in 3 seconds so yeah you can know how hard you can jet those things up. ;D

About the fastest to max balls chart, Would ths only go for time based OCD's or will all levels be included?

I think if we're going to add Max Goo Times, we should make it for any level where Max Goo is more than both Goal and OCD.

No point for Going Up and Ivy Towers and similar, since Max Goo = OCD
But any of the others where you can get more...  why not see how fast it can be done?

They're back... well sort of...

So that the table was readable I've changed it to just use the first letter of peoples' user name.
That way if you're a "player" you can see where you "rock", and where you need to put in some effort...
But once we're all reasonably sure that we've got almost the fastest times for everthing..
I'll take the Leader indications out, and just leave the times...

I think it is a bad idea to have Max Goo time. It is to much work, basically you are making a new official leaderboard. There are many scores that we don't know from before. Like in Chain, i remember that one Chinese player had about 350 seconds - 39goos, or in Welcoming Unit, a player for Sweden had 120 sec - 91goos.

Even now it is insanely hard to keep track of all max goo times. I have better times then Kopa in:
Weather Vane(Jairo even better if I remember),
Tumbler(Jairo even better),
Road Blocks,
Hello, World(dwerdwer is better),
Grape Vine Virus(dwerdwer is better)
Fly Away Little Ones(dwerdwer is better)

For most of them I didn't take a screenshot because this was when the Leaderboards were still working.

And God know how many levels did I get Max Goo best time and didn't even know I did after the Leaderboards crashed. (The same goes for every player here)  ;)
A lot of confusion at the beginning, I can't even begin to think how it's gonna be at the end.  :-\

So I really think we should just keep regular best times and OCD times just for extra information if someone wants.  ;)

YOU HAVE NEVER SEEN OFFICIAL LEADERBOARDS!!??  ;D ;D :D :D  There were official leaderboards on this site. There were totally cool. They had everything: max goo, best times, least moves, - in every level, 50 best towers... but I don't know why, they suddenly crashed (in February) and they are still not working.  :( :'(

It's actually the combination of about 3 minor strats.. each saving only a couple of seconds...

#1 : Never play on a Retry! You have to wait for the Goos to swim over to the belt.
#2 : Black Goo's will climb up the Ivy, if you let them.

Hey guys.  Great idea ;)  I was hoping people would do this.  I had the 1st place score on Graceful Failure when the leaderboards were up.  I had 8 seconds, and I'm pretty sure I had VERY close to 7, but could never break the 7 second mark.  With a great click on continue, it should definitely be possible.

It took me a while to find a very quick way to build the chain of water goos...

Maybe this will help... 

SS only shows 4, but sometimes you can get 5 Goo's joined before it falls off screen.
Takes maybe 3sec...  drop one goo into water, and grab one...
scroll down, add caught Goo then floating (dropped) one.
7 goo's hits the water and starts waking the Ivys.

Also this is a quick way to reach..

Must build quick though, otherwise the Ivys swing too far from the pipe for the last water goo.

I've apparently got 43s (current record 40), but I don't think I've ever done it REALLY quickly...
But it's a pain because you can't find out what your time was without uploading... Hmmm  :-\

First I'll hopefully complete Time Chart (but some scores are really crazy and I losing some will to play)

In advance there have been some  ???'s about The Red Carpet 15s
From the start, pick up an albino, pelt it through the pinned side of the extend-o-matic where
it will bounce off the wall behind it. On it's return it will make it topple;
Maybe pelt it against the extend-o-matic once more and then bounce the Beauty Goo into the hole.
Build up to the pipe like a maniac and you're done  :D
(seriously, really fast -- and throwing an ivy line didn't work out for me becouse of the quantity
of goo's crawling over the structure)

Feeling somewhat similar.... though I gave up any hope of getting best time on more than a few of the levels a long time ago.

I think we've done some good work, and shown that it's possible to get a Total Time < 1000s without getting least time on every (any) level.

If you want to try something a bit different, with substantially less stress / pressure...
Take a shot at some of the OCD times, chances are many of them will fall quite easily...

There's a couple that are no where near "right"...
Ivy Towers for one... 
if someone who can do the 0:03 would just collect all the balls and see what time they get... 

Similar for a couple of other levels....
I'd prefer it if most of the OCD times weren't mine.

Anyway... remember... It's a game, it's supposed to be FUN!  ;D

And @Cycl4Mate.. Good luck with the finals!

@DaftasBrush... Well, don't take this the wrong way, you are great player but many OCD times are better before you. Many people quit playing WoG when Leaderboards stop'd working and they had crazy scores on them. I'll try to find my early screenshots or redo the levels but I'm lazy right now.  ;D

That's why I asked for people to start trying OCD's, so I can get a better idea of how good (or bad) they really are!

I'm going to concentrate more on the OCD times now, simply because there's more "give" in them, and it feels good to play a level once and beat the "record" by 10s...  rather than play 100 times and not even equal it!

Pretty much 100% sure i'll make it becouse I have a lot of high grades on the still to come subjects.

Anyway,

After that exam, I spent 2 hours on WoG again, for serious business, the day after too.
I'll be going back to complete more of the left row again! and I got some new scores to get it back on track.

I still ask for people to try and break my (and other) records! show us where there is still room for improvement, For example
When DaB did OttBB in 24 seconds, I finally saw where the room for improvement was, so thanks.  :)

You say your goo throwing is not really up to date but you are -Splendid- at building.
Try experimenting a bit with the different styles of build and I'm sure you will get over 45 meters

I'll admit I was a little sceptical at first (though apparently not as much as Pavke  :) )

But you've got to admit it's "pushing it" to post 9 new records at the same time (with a couple of 3s+ savings  :o) and "conveniently" (or inconveniently I suppose) be unable to provide screenshots for some "long and tiresome" reason.
Remember the last (only?) time you posted a new record without proof it turned out to be a "typo"

Anyway, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt... but a couple of screenshots over the next few days showing some repeats of the records (or close...) wouldn't go amiss.

And I got 48s on Upper Shaft OCD but was one ball short... don't know where it went  ???
And the 43s Welcoming Unit OCD still eludes me...  >:(

Oh AND....  A task for you guys...
I suspect Leap Hole is do-able in 0:04
The "trick" is...  about 1 in 10 starts (not retries) all 3 "free" balls start on the structure
Have had several go's at it, but always seem to mess up in some new and interesting way when that 1 in 10 start comes around... Maybe you'll have more luck.  ;)

I can sure provide some screenshots of the new records, this should take some time though  ;)
Anyway, Pavke I hope you don't really mistrust me now! I might also be making a Video of all my time
runs compiled so I will have to do most again, only the latest I have got on tape!

I'm pretty much convinced Cycl's "on the level"...  and here's why

#1: His OttBB screenie shows exactly what I was looking for...
That he's found, like I did, that "classic" (build a bit of a base, then build like hell for the pipe)... can be faster than "falling tower" strat.
And I can believe that there was a second (or so) to be saved on my try.

#2: His HTIC screenie shows that he's used a substantially different strat to you...
(@Cycl4Mate - Would be nice to know what that was btw)

You build the 1 line balloon structure at the left just like with the original strat, then add another line making it a triangle, Now pick up grey goos from the base and thro them on the structure, grab aabout say, 9 in case you miss one.

Now just keep throwing hard against the triangle, You reach the pipe later but you don't need to blind throw any goos from the base to the pipe.

Yeah right. First of all. when you build a 1 line balloon structure it tends to move right and break against the spikes and you have to spent 2-3 sec to kick it left to miss the spikes.  >:(
Second. When you build a triangle it is balanced, the structure isn't going up or down, but when you are 3-4 goos it becomes heavy and start to fall down. And you say you put 9 goos and only one balloon is holding triangle and 9 balloons?? If anyone can do this please let me know.  >:(
Third. If you somehow did this how then did you kick it to the pipe? The structure is heavy and it will fly very slowly! This level has dampening factor of 0.5 on forces so even you kick the heavy structure it will have little effect.   >:(

On what did you spend 10 moves? to get the triangle and a baloon 7 moves are good

And how is this faster then my start? I picked up the balloon right away as the levels starts, I throw it at the structure only once really hard, the structure fell the the right and I attached the balloon as the goo line is left in the air. I spend abaut 4sec and got a goo line with a balloon and 10-13goos on it.

Okay I'm going to give it one more shot, at replying to you calmly...

At the point you have a triange hanging from a line to the left of the pillar in HTIC, I attatch the balloon to the bottom left then throw a grey goo up and a bit left onto the structure (often before it breaks), the upward speed and reduced sideways momentum will most often make the structure pass the spikes. (except for the one that is supposed to break ofc)
Only the triangle and one balloon is quite almost a perfect balance that's right. However the grey Gooballs weigh a lot less than black ones. after you put 8/9 on you do need to aim significantly up to keep it going, and throwing consistantly should be more of a key factor than throwing hard if what you say is true concerning the dampening factor. -- (Did both)

The fact you noticed it were 10 moves is fair, this is an odd number for the strat

detatch balloon |-- On normal runs this strat take 8 moves. I incorrectly attatched the balloon which also cost about half a second

Provided you can take down the structure and get a triangle in 4s by throwing the balloon toppling the
structure over means there is even room for improvement beyhond 19s However even one or two black Goo's on the structure might make it
too heavy to handle?

About Deliverance, Throwing one to break the top right block and throwing the next to slide past the right, thrown before the top right block actually exploded. that is what I meant

With the luck on the cascading explosions (a bit poetical) I meant to say the balls lighted other balls consistantly which caused a steady flow of explosions. The sooner they can reach the barriers the sooner you wake up the last structure.....

I'm not cheating and I'm not leavin, I put a lot of effort in the most time chart becouse I know there are solutions
in Moves and Balls I can only dream about completing right now!

Well, not videos but levels can be faked. You can use level editor to change the levels just a little bit (change the gravity, add a goo or two, wake a sliping goo early, make a move before the camera moves to that position)... All this won't be seen on the video.

Built the tower pretty fast,
got one balloon attached as it was cutting, but missed with the second.
So went to click the retry button... when there was this.. BRRRRUP noise ...
And the Retry button disappeared  ??? and the pull cord dropped down...
OH.. err.... CLICK!

The severed bit must have had enough Goo's (I think 3 or 4 jumped on from the balloon cloud)
and by complete fluke hit the pipe just right to let them get in as it dropped past.
So I reckon 16 could be possible, if you were expecting the pull cord.  ;)

I think maybe just one second less is possible in Red Carpet. I finished the structure before small beauty goos got down on it, they went straight to the pipe as the big beauty goo disassembled and I got 17sec, I just wasn't fast on getting the beauty goo off the ramp. (one time this happened to me :D, )

Practice, Luck and Retries....  mostly Luck though...

Quick build along the floor to the windmill...  NO Balloons.
Carry a water over the windmill
+2 Waters
+Balloon + water (quick, to stop balloon hitting windmill)
+Balloon + water (again quick)
Move Ballon #1 to last water
+ water
Grab water, hold by pipe and click, click, click, click (connects as soon as possible, but watch out for time bugs)
Then Whistle and hope for No more Ballons.

Lucky bits
#1 Not grabbing a balloon while building to the windmill
#2 Balloon #1 comes through on it's own at the right time, if not go and carry it (+2s)
   Also #2, but carrying #2 doesn't lose much time.
#3 Water is ready and waiting for quick adding after each balloon
#4 Line swings so that last water connects to pipe immediately
#5 Only 1 (maybe 2) balloons come when you whistle for goos... 2+ block the other goos.

Think of it as 3 stages (Build to Windmill, Build to Pipe, Goo Collection)
1 Awesome + 2 Good = 27s
2 Awesome + 1 Good = 25s
3 Awesome = ??

I take my timing from the music.. When the 1st bit of piano begins....
1st try:
Good = carrying the water over the windmill
Awesome = Water attached on right of windmill

Retry :
Good = 2 Waters added
Awesome = Balloon #1 and water added.

Sorry guys, but got another "storming" time... sort of by accident.

Got a 0:52 on Deliverance earlier, Awesome cascade but I had to use 1 Goo, swing, 1 Goo, lights the chain, ending... So I knew it could be faster by at least 2 seconds

So that I knew whether I was faster, or not... without waiting for the whole finish sequence and then going and looking at GooTool..

I decided to figure out what part of the music meant what time.
So... I used Goocrypter (BOO!  >:( ) decrypted my profile, increased the best time for Deliverance to 60 seconds and recoded it.
My plan was to do a series of runs, making note of what point I was at in the music when I clicked the OK/YES button, and then checking the final time with GooTool...  so that "ever after" I would know whether this was really a fast / slow run without having to wait.
I was especially looking to find what time the "drum roll / funk guitar scale then loop" happened at...

Anyway. took about 10 retries to get a decent cascade, then (by sheer luck) I got a 1 Goo over and Up finish.. and err....

Deliverance 0:49  :o  ;D In the words of Cycl4Mate  "WTF?"  ;)


BTW: re. The music
Big Chord, Funk Guitar scale down to "Bong" (Big lone bass guitar note) where the music loops
On a retry...
Clicking OK Button on big chord gives you 54s finish
Clicking on "Bong" gives you 56s

OK, done a bit of investigation this morning....
[CAUTION : Spoilers!]

Thing is (like my first "awesome" times on GPU)....
I knew WHAT I was doing... but not WHY it was making it fast.

Same here with Deliverance, so I've done some digging.... here's what it seems to be...

Along with the "normal" start ... I was waiting about 1 second and then shooting another Goo from the left box, down the right hand side, launching it before the first had exploded, but so that it reached the barrier just AFTER the 1st had exploded.

Here's what happens when you do that....
The second Goo (lit) drops/flies down straight through the 2nd level, and explodes almost as soon as it touches barrier #2

Screenie shows it about 0.001s before it exploded...
You can see that the blocks that were sitting on the first barrier haven't even fallen all the way to the second barrier yet.

What that gets you...
Instead of the fallen Goo's lighting then sitting there on top of barrier 2, waiting to explode... you get a "rain" of just lit Goos falling onto the 3rd level...


Add a few from the top right box (already lit)... and they explode many of the 3rd level blocks... sometimes that lets a couple of the "rain" Goos get all the way to barrier 3... just before they explode.
and it's quick because these Goo's have just been falling since they were near the top!

Several times I've done this, and even if you launch the 4 right box goos quickly, by the time you've scrolled down...  Barrier 4 (part 1) is already gone and there are 10 lit goo's sitting on part 2.

All that said, a lot of it is still down to luck, but I think using this strat takes you from 1 in 1000 odds of a "truly awesome" cascade to about 1 in 10, which you can reasonably play a few times until you get a quick end stage.

Wow, that's some great explanations. I didn't understand everything : I'm tired, I don't like/know this level, technical explanations in english are hard. ;D

But good work, sub 50 seconds it's impressive.

OK, there's a couple of levels that I'm ahead (by a few seconds)...
most I'm equal or 1 or 2 behind..
But I've still got 5 levels where I'm 20s off the record  ???, and one where I'm 32!  :o

Don't get disheartened...  it's taken me a lot of playing time and practice to get this good (those few levels I'm really good at anyway)....
and I still struggle with some of them (see above)
My suggestion, pick a level you think you're good at... play it (a lot), take a break, play it again.
If you can get even close to the record you're doing really well.

It's funny : my best time in Weather Vane is 29 seconds. I feel ridiculous ;D

I'm sad to see that I have only 2 least time alone : Water Lock and Whistler. And those two levels are useless. I need to try some levels lengthily. Great work anyway.

Actually I've been using my 85 base, and a fast hand...  :D  so faster might be possible with 89 or 87 and much luck.

Have got the hang of building tall towers without having to hit them with Goo to keep them straight... Which is Nice!  ;D
and that has helped me on several other levels...

I'll make a video to show you the technique, I'm now sure that I will get another 27sec. Yes, it is a lot different start then DaftasBrush, I use only 5-7 moves (DaftasBrush uses about 40)

And Kopa,  can't redo the trick you did in Whistler, the glitch, can you remember exactly what how did you do it? 

It's easy.

The last level you see on the map of chapter 2 must be Beauty School. Finish this level OCD, quickly click on the level Leap Hole (you must click before the flag appears). Finish Leap Hole OCD, before the flag and the path to Whistler, click on Volcanic. Finish OCD and before the flag appears, click on Whistler. If this works, the sound, we normally hear when the flag appears, appears not when the flag appears but on the level Whistler. Then you can whistle when the camera moves.

I suggest you to backup your save before Beauty School, so you can retry easily because the whistle don't work perfectly. ;)

Well ,Kopa recommended me AutoScreenRecorder. For him it works fine, but for me it can't record sound (because I have integrated microphone in my laptop and can't disable it) and video blinks probably because of my video codecs as you can see in the video. I use Windows Movie Maker to edit videos

In the end it wasn't so much about a fast click on continue...  it does have to be fast, but not extremely so....

I took my cues from the music again.... recorded it, then worked out what a 7s finish would sound like.
Played a few times, realised I was getting 8.1 - 8.2 quite a lot... so just retried till I got a bit of luck, the triangle fell right on the hole and the goos came down quickly... 
Failed once with a slow build to the pipe, but got it (easily) the second time.

It saves so much frustration when you know, before the time pops up, whether you "Got it" or not.

FYI: In the music (on a retry) listen for the drums  "b-b-Bum  bu-bum"
They are on the 8 second mark. Hit continue before them and you're "golden"... 
But you might "squeak it" (7.9) if you click on the first "b"..  but the "Bum" is definitely 8s.

I'm gunna have to try this again, just so I can hopefully get to 7 seconds.  At least I can say with a high degree of confidence no one will ever get 6 seconds!!

What do you use for a strategy?  I would grab the Square block, and push it straight up so the triangle and the rectangle went up, then, I would use the square to bludgeon the tower down.  Did you grab the rectangle or the square? 

I used the dquare because the rectangle (for me) was harder to get a go throw for the triangle.  I found i needed to throw the goos up a little, or they would fall faster then I could break...

I actually used a completely different way....
I think it was Marius's... but I can't find a video on Youtube of the exact way...
And his site is down.

About halfway down the tower on the right, there's a rectangle standing with nothing on top of it.
Grab it, and bash it into the tower, just above, push on the 2 squares.
The bring it back to the right at the bottom to clear the hole.

That got me the 0:07... with luck and quick clicking.

But I'm now looking at other methods... that are "looking good" for a 0:06 finish...
Certain I've got 7.1 (or thereabouts....) already.

Sort of...  Slow Launch = Fast Arrive at the bottom.
One "trick" I found is...If Many (5/6) red goo's arrive close together....


If 1 connects... they all connect... often into a line!


So if you launch 1 fast, 1 medium, 3 or 4 slower... they all arrive at the bottom together...
and form a long line in 1 "POP"....  after that it is easy!  ;D

Not having a huge amount of luck/fun making videos...
Got something going though... and "the method" is about all I can manage...

Got the capture working (sort of)....
I have to play in Windowed not Full Screen mode... which makes scrolling a pain...
and it's jerky and the mouse is glitchy... although some levels seem fine (Going Up is no different to playing without the capture)...
and...  anyway....

First attempt to show the method for Graceful Failure in 0:06


It looks easy, but getting the tower to do that is about 1 in 5, getting the triangle to fall smack on the  hole (not just close like in the video) is about 1 in 10.

Mostly it takes a lot of luck, and many, MANY retries....  but it is possible!

Correct Time is 2 week 1 day.... 

I uploaded 1st, saw the MASSIVE play time and remembered what I had done...

Yeah, it only updates "most balls" "highest tower" "most ocds" and "most playtime" when you upload a new profile. When I implement profile deletion, it'll be able to go back down again.

I forgot to answer when you, DaftasBrush, said that picture are useless to post. I don't agree with you. Pictures could be useful for the one who will try. For exemple, if we see a structure on the picture or if we don't see anything (meaning there was a line into the pipe).

I think "useless" is a bit strong...
I think we can agree video is better (see your comments about Going Up 0:03  :P)
A picture didn't tell you how to do that.... a video did.

Certainly some levels a picture would show the method... but video is always better  ;D

With this new capture program, it doesn't affect the game play hardly at all, and only uses about 9Mb per minute of capture. So I can have it running ALWAYS, and every record I get (or equal) is captured.
I recommend you try it!

I agree! I'm oldschool (  :D  )   I like pictures because they show you the basic idea and you have to figure out the rest. The videos show you everything and there is no fun in repeating what you have just saw.     


BTW... my auto screen recorder trial period has past so my videos will have to wait until I have found some other recording program.  :)

What resolution and frame rate are you capturing? I'm currently at 1027.5 MB of raw data per minute (137Mbps, 1920x1080x30) using Fraps. Unfortuanetly, there is a noticeable performance impact, but it's still well within bounds (not for time though). What program are you using now? I'm pretty sure I had read this already somewhere, but I forgot and didn't find it now.

I'm playing in 1280x800 but ZD lets you resize on-the-fly and so I've got it recording 576x360 at 25fps
I chose that resolution because it's the perfect size for youtube.
So it (youtube) doesn't have to resize it or mess about with it any, hence the quality online stays pretty much as the original... which is pretty good.

It uses the Xvid MPEG4 codec which is giving plenty of quality at ~1.2Mbps (yes that's less than 1/100th of your whopping 137Mbps  :o ) and add 128kbps MP3 Audio.
The biggest file I can find, is from a few days ago...  426Mb for 44:11 which is about 9.5Mb per minute.

Performance impact is minimal... barely noticable on most levels (fps drops to maybe 55 from 60, but often it just hovers 59-60-59-60)
There are a few more intensive levels like deliverance it might drop to 50fps....
But still easily playable and record-setable and the capture seems fine.

Thanks...  got 0:09 (9.3) on Superfuse the other day, but when I checked the video replay there was one big mistake and I got a 0.5s delay between Goo #10 going into the pipe and the pull cord dropping down.... so I knew 0:08 was possible...
I think knowing it can be done, makes it easier to get the first time, but more frustrating when you can't get it again.

These last couple of records have actually just come from me getting fed up of trying to get Weather Vane in 31 again and Graceful Failure in 6s, so I've been trying other levels to have a break.

Why not try some of the OCD's instead?
There's several (one in particular  ;) ) I'm certain you could beat!  ;D

And whilst I'm not the sort of person who'd usually kick a guy when he's down....
maybe a gentle foot up the arse will do the trick...  :D

I have some questions.

How does the game time level ? I used virtuldub for timing precisely. I take the first frame when the black thing disappears (the black thing which is at the top and at the bottom of each level) and the last frame when the black thing appears after clicking on the continue button. I timed an ivy towers run and calculated 2.6 seconds and I still got 3 seconds. Maybe we got 2 seconds when we sub 2.5seconds ?

I wonder if someone understands how it works.

If you retry the level the timing is much less (you can see this in levels where activity happens at the start, e.g. Deliverance when you retry, it takes a moment for the undelete button to fall) so I'm guessing it's timed from the point the level graphics appear?

The Timer is NOT running during the "intro" phase.... 
My absolute proof of this is... in my 0:08 run on Super Fuse
It's done on a 1st try, so you see the camera panning up the fuse...  that takes 12s to get to the top...

Sometimes this helps you... Like in welcoming unit...
On a retry you have to wait for the Goos to swin to the belt, but on a 1st try, there's no waiting, and no time lost, because that action happens during the "intro" phase.

Sometimes it hurts you...  like in Chain
On a 1st try the Goos have a lot of time to move around during the "intro" and that can set the head wobbling like crazy... on a retry you get to start before the goos can get very far and it's all still pretty much balanced.

It IS what I said above...
The Timer starts from the first moment you can actually "do" something...
Which is the moment when the black bars (top and bottom) start to move out towards the edge of the screen. On a retry that's always almost immediately, on a 1st try it varies depending on how long the level intro is. But the moment those bars start moving... GO!

EDIT: One thing that might help Kopa, just in case he hasn't noticed it...
You can grab Goo's in the first 0.5s even if they are hidden by the black bars...
After the bars start moving but before they have disappeared.

The Timer stops when you click continue, the click itself doesn't show up but the black bars start moving in immediately, so the moment they start to show... even just 1 pixel...  that's the end.

Now... back to looking at my 7.06s run on Graceful Failure.... Damn it!  >:(

I played normal start. Didn't hurry and at the end it was 59sec. I was satified with that.

The problem is that 39sec run is one in a million shot. You have to retry and retry and again and again and again. This is I think only level that has nothing to do with your skill just insane loads of luck. :D ::) Last time when I set 39sec I was trying to get 20 moves record. I've played that level for two days straight. I got so sick and tierd of that level that at the end I played so fast, almost blindfolded, didn't even aim the structures... And suddenly it worked!! I was like :o :o  ... this was pretty fast! Got those 4 goos to the pipe quickly and that is it. 

I think it is near impossible for me to repeat that. I'm still getting angry and unpleasant feelings about that level. :(

In the end I gave up "trying" and just played it a few times each session...

Not really a secret... you can see it in the videos....

I found 4 ball VERY VERY hard, you must be so accurate shooting that last Red.
The amount of swing on the line, then speed, direction and timing of shooting the last Red.
You have to be PERFECT, or the line moves not enough and doesn't cut, or moves too much and kills 2 goos, leaving 1 free red, not a line.

So I came up with 5 ball strat (see the OCD run)... It's far easier to shoot that last red
Direction is not so critical, power is just "FULL".
So long as you shoot hard, it will normally cut OK, and you get a 2 or 3 ball line.

The final thing (which I think helps) but I'm not 100%...
Is shooting from near the top of the box, rather than the bottom (as in the dwerdwer video)
It seems to make the line swing "correctly", the small downward motion stretches the line, the bottom goes right, drags the middle to the right,  then the bottom swings back to the left at the moment of cutting
As I say, I'm not 100% that it's the "top shooting" that does that, but you can see I did it in both videos and watch how the line swings.

One more... but just squeaked this one past the current record...

A while ago I got an excellent "finish"
Video replay showed "26 of 26"  at 15.1s
But then there was a HUGE delay (23 Frames!! :o = 0.92s!!) before the cord even started to appear...
So it ended up a 0:16 by the time I'd clicked continue.  ::)

Haven't had such a good run since... until now...
But this time it's a fairly normal 3 frames  (0.1s) between 26 of 26 and the cord starting to show.
So.. 0:15  ;D

I assume this would be too difficult to attempt in a single-segment? Currently I am getting loads of red goos and getting a time of about a minute by just building the line down. Also thanks for your 3rd wheel strat, it was slightly different from mine and removes any real risk from that level now so thanks!  :)

I was tring 20 moves record. Every time I missed I have to start over again. Now I have tryed your relax 25,26,27... moves go and it is easyer, already go 40sec and 39sec. I feel stupid that I haven't tried it back then.  :-[

I found if you hit a black Goo "HARD" up the Diagonal of the Z...
It can touch/cover the red goo on the right and start the waking earlier...

I think there is some kind of blockade on this level. The time that pases between when the balloon disappears above the upper edge and the level ends is (I think) longer if i finish the level quicker. Maybe I'm just tripping :)

If it is I thought about it months ago and Kopa even before that lol. I got as far as getting a line in the air back then, If you had an albino goo it would be easy but with a fuse goo I dont know. Looking at the least moves chart i assume its either super fuse or tower of goo.

Also server farm 30 I tried for a while I think the most I got was around 24 or something.

Wait till fire comes up and then use the bug when fire stops when you make new connections, like Kopa did in Second Hand Smoke? OK that,

but HOW do you the wake up the sleeping goos and carry that to the pipe? 
I think it might be possible to kick the line from one cloud to the other, collecting all ugly goos and then kick the fuse line with 9 Ugly product goos on it. (I'm being sarcastic :)  )
