Hi guys,

This week I finally got around to adding a feature to goofans.com that I've been putting off for ages - an addin database. You can now upload your addins, screenshots and videos and categorise them for everyone to download. Hopefully this will help put an end to the rapidshare/filefront mess.

I'll hold off announcing this publicly for a few days to give you a chance to update your mods and upload any missing ones.

Nice addition! I'm uploading my Computer Craziness pack right now, but I would like to have it allow .zip files, because I have to upload each file manually, and it kind of seems to mess up that 'download now' button...

How come you didn't create 4 different addin pages though? That's what I would have done as they're 4 different levels.

I am not totally against the idea to download a pack of several mods but I think the purpose of this new page on Goofans.com is to let people download only the levels they want (and only one if the player wants it).

Also, clicking on the INSTALL NOW button will install the mod automatically (if GooTool is installed of course). Nothing's easier :) And it's not possible with ZIP files..  :-\

Take the website Winamp.com/skins ... ZIP files are not allowed, only WAL files (winamp skins files).

Looks all good but I wanted to know if I had to do anything else or what. The theme I uploaded still hasn't been approved.

I guess davidc has to accept all new mods before they get available on the site.

It's not automatic because.. imagine someone makes a "porn mod", it would be quickly uploaded and available for all until davidc notices it. Young players would have been able to download it... it's not possible.  >:(

Since the offending character is a Latin-1 encoded ß and davidc, to the best of my knowledge, doesn't speak German, I'm guessing the problem is on your end. ;)
Are you sure your text files are UTF-8 encoded?

Per-level stats have been on my wish list for a while (especially since the official leaderboard doesn't provide these anymore)  but I'm not sure if I have the time to spare to implement that soon... As  for default profiles, what do you mean by that?

If you click on a player's name (From the left hand leaderboards for example). It will automatically show the page from the first time they uploaded their profile. However, a lot of people have uploaded 5 or 6, (or 29 'kopa'  ::) ).

So lets say I see kopa in the 'most balls collected' bit I click on his name to see where he got them. I get the list with 1403 gooballs (first profile upload), and not 1416 (most recent). So then, to find the most recent. I have to click through the pages until I find his name, then click on the highest numbered profile entry.

I hope that's clearer, and not more confusing.

I'm slightly wrong, Kopa's acutally shows his 27th uploaded profile... god knows what the one from the main list on the left shows... It starts ca1aa....  but none of his uploaded profiles match that as I can see.

Ahh, that's only in the Top Balls listing right? (The Top Towers and player links on the right should already link to highest/latest profile respectively.)
I've fixed this. :)

Hehe, I just noticed Pavke has been testing how infinite WoGC really is.

Is it still wrong? For me, it looks like in the Top Balls list, Kopa is linked to profile ce277..which is indeed his latest (29th) uploaded profile. (The ca1aa... thing is the player link, which is linked to the latest uploaded profile, currently ce277...)

It is OK now!! Everything is working fine but please delete the fred profile.

Partly that, partly to prevent people using it as a warez storage site, but mostly to ensure that only quality (well-written, complete) pages appear on the site for now.

Later when there's a rating system, that may well take care of itself. In the meantime there's now a "submit for publication" link once the requirements are met.

I'd be very interested in integrating your site into goofans.com, particularly with the new GooTool "publish profile" option. Doing this for my website is next on my TODO list anyway, but I'd really prefer to use your work and have this all centrally (I can handle the Drupal/gootool integration but can certainly also give you SVN & shell access for future). What do you think?

Attempting to upload now but it seems Gooness is stuck.

Yeah, there's a problem but I am sure davidc is doing everything he can to fix it.
For the moment, all we can do to help him is send to him by e-mail all mods (levels, gooballs styles, etc) we made.

What exactly do you have in mind? I'd certainly be interested in merging my site into GooFans.com; I don't have a lot of time to maintain or improve it, so if you're planning on providing a similar service anyway, it makes more sense for GooFans.com to be the central place to collect all user data (although it would be nice if GooTool is not required to upload profiles).

However, the current implementation is a horrible mess of different types of scripts hacked together in an ad-hoc fashion. In my defense, I never intended the site to grow this big (or be substituted for the official leaderboards) so I started simple but kept adding stuff to keep it running smoothly when the necessity arose. You very likely want to redesign and/or reimplement some of the stuff.

If you're interested in the profile data alone, that would be a lot easier; you can already download the data for a given profile by adding "/profile.dat" or "/profile.xml" to a profile url, and you can scrape the profiles directory index for a list of profiles (takes a while to load, though).

So let me know where you want to go with this; if you want to discuss things privately you have my e-mail address. :)
