Error when launching World of Goo.exe

I've just installed gootool, and all was going well until the first step, which is copying the game to a new folder. Could this be due to the fact that I got the game from Steam? Would there be some sort of copy protection getting in the way?

Here's the error message:

It looks like you're trying to play a custom level with errors, is that possible?

I haven't tried the Steam version, but I don't see why it wouldn't work.

Yeah, I was hoping to play Jingle Balls. I haven't gotten to the point of loading the goomod file yet though. The error above occurs when clicking "Save and launch World of Goo" during the first start-up of gootool.

Well that StackWalk error is being generated by WoG itself. I'm downloading the demo now to investigate.

Ok, I've just tried again, only this time I loaded the goomod file before attempting to save. There appears to only be minor differences, but here's the result:

Oh! Duh! Ok, I solved it. I only just re-installed so that I could play custom levels, and had not yet created a profile! Once I did that, it worked no problems.

Sorry to send you on a wild goose chase!

Thanks a ton for looking into it either way!

I got this thread confused with another one, you're not running the demo at all.

Theoretically the Steam version should work fine but I haven't bought it through Steam so I don't know if there are any differences. Perhaps the properties\config.txt file is different or something.

i'm having the same issue but it happens when i try to actually start the game. I go into the default installation directory C:\Program Files\Steam\Steamapps\common\World Of Goo\ and then click the launcher to get this error message..

Steam version: Are you launching it from Steam? You have to at least have Steam running. I haven't checked into it with details (who needs Steam when you've got DRM free?), but I think it has to be launched from Steam to work.

(And don't revive old threads. Make a new one instead.)
