world of goo never opens

I'll run gootool and it'll load fine.
after it loads nothing opens.
absolutely nothing.
no errors or anything.
in task manager it shows it running yet doing nothing.
no cpu usage or hard drive access.

Do you mean that you see the small loading window, but when that closes, the main window doesn't open? Which OS and Java version (these should be at the start of the log)

I've tried many versions of gootool and none of them work.
I have the same problem. what can I do?
What version of Windows do you have? Tell us and we might be able to help.
Try going to your WoG custom folder (the one where gootool installs addins into) and opening World of Goo.exe (NOT the one in the WoG folder, but the one in the re-installed addin folder)
I fix it. My problem was that gootool is not compatible with the store bought CD Version of world of goo(which I bought at target). I got the Version from 2d boy's site and it fixed the problem.

I have the cd (store bought) and gootool worked fine until I installed Windows 7!
Yeah, really odd. I got WOG from Target too, and no troubles.

I think many 3rd party distributions of the game contain some sort proprietary DRM scheme. Maybe that's what's preventing modding? (Yet another reason to just get the game from 2D Boy!)
That's interesting. I wonder what I can do to detect this. Perhaps someone with a broken version could do a diagnostic dump for me (which includes a list of all the files in the WoG directory)? It's on GooTool's Help menu, "Generate Diagnostic Report", and my e-mail address is davidc at this domain.
