I recently started up Minecraft, and the splash text said "Also try World of Goo!"
I didn't know Notch even knew about 2D Boy, other than the "pay what you want" stuff.

How are they late? Most of those splash texts have stayed from the initial beta download. It's likely that was one of the older ones. And it would be 4 years, not 3.
By "pay what you want" do you mean the Humble Indie Bundle?

Oh, didn't know that. And by late, I meant, well, normally advertising is when the game is pretty new.
Wikipedia says the release date was October 13, 2008. That's about 3 years ago.
