[SOLVED] WOG on 64bit Linux

Hello goofans!
I have a AMD64 machine running Ubuntu 12.04 beta 2. I have an Nvidia card using the driver 295.33.
When I try to start WOG from the terminal I get a segmentation fault.
When I edit the WOG config file to not automatically detect the sound driver but to use 'pulse' (which should be the right one, shouldn't it?) the game starts.
But I do not have any sound then.
I also tried 'also' and 'dsp' as a driver with the same result.
Any suggestions?
Hmm, I could be mistaken, but I think we may have had a similar problem to this before, but pulse solved his problem. I would hope that it's just a beta glitch with Pulse, but I wouldn't have anything to back that up with.

Thanks for your reply.
Yes indeed, this issue looks like a regression. I found a closed issue describing the same problem. In that case changing 'auto' to 'dsp' solved the problem.
It does not so now but you could be right it could be a pulse beta problem.
I will recheck if the problem resolves itself with 'pulse'.
Perhaps it is a good idea to keep the matter opened until we know for sure? That way other people can still post suggestions.
Thanks...
Indeed. World of Goo may just start having Linux issues here and there as time goes by. If you can't find a solution to the problem after the next stable release of Linux, I'd say it's probably a bug in World of Goo itself, and you should try contacting 2DBoy via their form on http://2dboy.com/contact.php .

Thanks MOM4Evr,
in the meantime I am on the stable release of Ubuntu but the problem is still there.
I think I will contact 2DdBoy about the problem.
Ah, I forgot to link to this before, but another way you can try contacting them is through the Humble Bundle bug reporting form: http://goo.gl/C1tuO
Since the Bundle with World of Goo in it is over, it may or may not still even work, but it's worth a shot if they don't respond to an email from their contact form.

I am in Debian Unstable (kernel 3.2.0-2-686-pae) with World of Goo version 1.41 and I have exactly the same problem: Segmentation fault at startup and no sound if I change the sound config.
Thanks, SaintGermain, then I will not feel alone...
I contacted 2DBoy about the matter with the hints I got from MOM4Evr.
Unfortunately I did not get an answer yet.
Perhaps it helps if you try, too.
Ok will do.
For the sake of completness, here is the log output when I have the segmentation fault:
Solved by following the instructions here:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=11802779&postcount=9
So just replace the files...
Thanks SaintGermain, that did the trick!!
How did you get the answer? From 2Dboys themselves?
Likely from a Google search. Note the URL he linked. "ubuntuforums"
I tweet like a bird
I have a lame website
Thanks RedTheGreen, that really would never have come to my mind...
2DBoy didn't give that information. Just making that clear.

Hello,
Initially, I found the information here:
http://goofans.com/forum/world-of-goo/support/3529
Ubuntu and Debian having a lot in common, it is always useful to see each other problems and solutions !
Thanks again,
Ok, it seems that the deciding post is quite new (05/15/2012). I had alredy tried all the other suggestions but nothing worked.
It is still a pity that 2Dboy did not answer the question. And I wonder why the necessary files have to be downloaded from "http://2dboy.com/TopSecretTransfer/linux-libs64/". WTF, TopSecretTransfer? What is so secret about them??
But nevermind, it works perfectly now...
The file name probably is just for fun, and means that they can put all the downloadable libs and such in one place.
