Even though the easy-to-use, designed with 5 year olds in mind editor is coming out in less than a few weeks, I've been learning how to use Hammer. I can compile a level with basic geometry, entities, & texturing.
It really depends on how much it lets you do. It will definitely limit functionality, but to what extent? That's the question I want to answer before I decided which program to use. Hammer is excellent, and not nearly as complicated as I had previously thought. It's just a bit user-unfriendly, which explains the initiative.

Pertetual Testing looks cool, but I prefer Hammer. Once you learn all the entities it lets you do essentially anything you want.
