If you shoot a portal at it, it turns it into a laser and redirects it. Then it bounces through other redirection cubes until it hits a wall, at which point it turns back into a portal. Plus, the lasers can go through glass and fizzlers!
Another Planet finally has an official release! Download chapters 1 through 3 here! Thank you for waiting so long while I kept starting over.
wait...
then you can create a level in which you can bring objects out of the testing area!
i wonder what happens though....
could you use the object on the next level?
Kirdneh: Yep! I'm making it so that you can do that with a Companion Cube. Most of the levels will have airlocks at the exits to prevent that, though: step into the middle, fizzler activates, the door behind you closes, THEN the one in front opens. No way to get a laser through.
Puggsoy: Thanks! And finish Portal, it's a great game. It's very easy to get through the next part, all you have to do is press the button, theAAAGGGHHHH!!!

I do want to finish Portal, but my sister actually owns it. I mean, I can play it whenever I want, but I can't go further than her. She wants to preserve the satisfaction of finishing it first, although I can understand that I don't mind, but I will try and get her to finish it somewhat faster so I can do that.
Luckily it'll be quickly followed by Portal 2 since she got the Portal pack a few weeks back, so once I've finished that I can start installing (and maybe making) mods.
You should at least test out the PTI in Portal 2. It's unrelated to the story because it takes place in the Multiverse, throughout tons and tons of Aperture Science Laboratories. And you should already know about the test elements from Portal 1 and the preview vids.

LOL I didn't even check out preview vids, just played it. But yeah I do know about how you're a test subject and all that, and that the cake is a lie. Not to mentioned the countless spoilers about GLaDOS flying through the internet.
But the story isn't really that important to me. Obviously it plays a part, but for me the crux of the game is the puzzles, so as long as I get to solve those on my own it's fine.
I'll take a gander at PTI. My sister hasn't even installed Portal 2 yet but I'll see to it
That might be the case with Portal 2, but so far the story isn't really doing it for me in Portal. That's not to say it sucks, it's just not one of the best bits.
Well... Considering I've only played Portal 2 and not 1 yet... (I've still got to) Portal 2 was awesome as far as story and puzzles!! Some of the catwalks between tests in the *SPOILER* kept me really frustrated for a while... I had to look it up on YouTube eventually...
For those wondering, Earth of Goo is still being worked on, but not as often. It will be finished! Check out my website/YouTube @ScarletFury!
Really? Which ones? The ones when you're following W*******, or when you are listening to C*** J******? (Hopefully you can understand the spoiler-blocking there)
Another Planet finally has an official release! Download chapters 1 through 3 here! Thank you for waiting so long while I kept starting over.
Huh? Do you mean your making a new gel color? If so, they already have Orange, Blue, and White... I suggest either Yellow, Green, Red, Purple, Gold, Silver, or Black!
For those wondering, Earth of Goo is still being worked on, but not as often. It will be finished! Check out my website/YouTube @ScarletFury!
1 is in the game code, but without a texture. It used to be purple, and they called it Adhesion Gel because it let you walk on walls and ceilings. Now it doesn't do that anymore (since DLC2), and it reflects laser beams instead. I'm working on some tests based on it, making it purple again.
5, 6, etc. do work, but crash the game if you do anything that would trigger another gel's properties (walk on it, shoot a portal, aim a laser...). They only exist through a buffer overflow, so they're pretty unstable, and have no useful properties. And any above...I think 8?...will crash the game just by being there.
I'm also making a new pseudo-gel which is yellow, called Incendiary Lemon Juice. It's created when an Incendiary Lemon Storage Crate explodes.
But, back on topic, what I was asking was what area of the walkway you were referring to. Which gel was introduced closest to that?
Another Planet finally has an official release! Download chapters 1 through 3 here! Thank you for waiting so long while I kept starting over.
Hey, you can also make a gel that portals bounce off of. it would have interesting results. For science. You monster. (its a quote, for all you who do not know)
AWL!! I want adhesion gel! Oh, well... How about one that lets you hover for a few moments? Or... And If you figure out any way to add more gels, please let us download them!!
OH! I think the orange gel was introduced closest to that... yeah.
For those wondering, Earth of Goo is still being worked on, but not as often. It will be finished! Check out my website/YouTube @ScarletFury!
I'll try the hovering thing. It SHOULD be possible, since I can use gels to affect things like gravity and air resistance. Omnicoder managed to fix adhesion gel, but it's hacky and involves coating the walls with triggers to detect paintbombs. Reflection gel is fully working now, I'll post it with my deflection cubes once it works in the PTI.
Note: You WILL need fudgepacker or similar for these to work in PTI maps.

Puggsoy, the original Portal wasn't famous for its story.
The millions of quotes didn't really make that clear. I'm sure the second one is more story-ish, but my overall point is that, as a player, the story (in any game) is not the most important aspect for me. That's not to say the story is always useless, I mean I'm currently loving both Bastion's and Psychonauts' story, but it's not what I usually look for in a game.
Fudgepacker is a little hack that removes the PTI entity limit, and adds resources to the BSP for you.
It's written in C# with a bunch of (imo) unnecessary OOP stuff and input fields and the like for the Hammer GUI, so I'm currently writing a simpler version in about four lines of C++.
Another Planet finally has an official release! Download chapters 1 through 3 here! Thank you for waiting so long while I kept starting over.
1750 is the entity limit. Try throwing stairs into a map until you hit it, they're the most entity-intensive test element.
BSP stands for Binary Space Partition. It's the compiled map format which Portal 2 can read, as opposed to Hammer's easy-to-edit but hard to load VMF (Valve Map Format). BSP's can also contain resources, which are loaded when starting the map, sort of like an override in a goomod. This is essential for publishing on the workshop with custom stuff, just like you would need to put images in a goomod, but the PTI normally blocks it.

I haven't even finished the first Portal, but that sounds like a cool cube. Basically it's just like a transportation method for portals

From Hammer, yes. Just not on the workshop.

Oh man! The story was the best part of Portal 2! (for me, at least)
The puzzles themselves tied in well with the story.

For me, the story of Portal and Portal 2 was the best part. Understanding it all is half of the game; the other is the awesome gameplay.
-_-
There's a fifth type. The normal ones are
0 - Blue
2 - Orange
3 - White
4 - Clear
