Pixel artist? Sounds cool, but this game isn't going to be all that pixel-y, or at least I'd think.

It's not 8-bit. I'm not sure where you got that idea from. If you check out the other art threads, you can see what kind of art we're going for.

OK. Well, what will the style be? Realistic, 16 or 32-bit? I'd need to know to make some usable samples to see if I could help with the artistic aspect of the game

They are going for as realistic as possible, yet still 2-d looking if I recall. If you need more info check out some of Howitz's images in the art thread of the goofans game. That's where all that discussion is.

Braid-like. Not realistic at all, but definitely not pixel-y.

You don't want to be able to see individual pixels, it doesn't look good. (it works in many places, but that's not what we're going for)

The first half of those is the style that we were going for, really.

The second half is, I believe, ideas for particle effects.

Yep, that first half is what we want. Once again I must marvel how similar it is to Braid, it would really be cool to eventually see it in our game.

The currency will be Crystal Chips (CC), so you should design it off that.

CC? I thought that was just an idea. We really need to figure out what's concrete and what isn't.

I personally think the underground thing shouldn't be the theme of the game. A lot of it can be based underground, but main story and passive moments should be in towns or cities above ground.

I thought it was Aurorium Crystals?

Indeed, it was AC. Those would be be sort of gold-ish transparent crystals, correct?

I also like underground. As I suggested before, we could have a DLC after the main game that has above ground and underground areas, but the main game should just be underground, I think.

I've got a Photoshop generator that can create Aurorium in different shapes and sizes, it's almost finished. I had forgotten about it.

i liked AC as we have too many gold coins or gold things in games. you could mine certain crystals with a certain pickaxe (wood pickaxe mines less valuable crystals, stone more, iron even more, etc.) and they are al shiny and catch the light.

I made a first video in a series showing me making (and failing at making) some of the art/sprites for the game. 23 minutes to make 5 potions XD. I suck at this

That is a cool vid... I've wanted to do one like that except of me building a k'nex roller coaster or ball machine but I don't know how...

But yes you're getting much closer to the style we want... keep working!

I included a hint of sarcasm there, which I shouldn't have, but you aren't bad. It's just I think we're going more for blended, colorful photos with layers of opacity and translucency. (I love being redundant)

The problem is, most of the time, when I go for opaque, it turns out to either
A)Not look opaque at all
or B)Be completly see-through, and you can't even see the color
But, I will try it out again. I'll see what I can do with blended, colorful, and opague.

Opacity is the level of transparency you can have in a pixel/brush. Assuming you're using modern drawing tools such as paint.NET, GIMP, or Photoshop, this is something you can get to fairly easily.

Yeah, I'm using Corel paintshop pro x2, so I can, I just fail at doing it XD

Get GIMP then. It's free.

Opacity is a value you can set between 0 and 255. If it's anything above 0, you should see it.

This has nothing whatsoever to do with skill level.
