Cannot locate World of Goo.app

Hi,

I'm having issues getting my GooTool to cooperate. It looks like the same issue as "Goo Tool cant find world of goo .app", but that never got completely resolved from the look of it. Here's the what's up.

I'm on a Mac. I bought World of Goo on Steam. World of Goo works just fine. I installed the GooTool. When the GooTool runs, it says: "GooTool couldn"t automatically find World of Goo. Please locate the World of Goo application on the next screen." I found the file "World of Goo.app" in my Applications folder, but the GooTool does not recognize it as World of Goo. If I select it with the All Files Format instead of the World of Goo format, it will not work. It says: "Couldn't find World of Goo: World of Goo was not found at /Applications/World of Goo.app" The other post said something about Viewing Package Contents. I don't know what it meant by that. It doesn't appear to do anything when I look inside the folder, as I can't access it from the select screen.

Does the Steam version come with DRM? Is this what's causing the problem? Is there a way to fix it?

Hmm...I am also on a mac. Fot gootool, try seeing the package contents, look on the /contents/MacOs The world of goo should be there.

To view package contents right clic world of goo.app and select show package contents. Hope this helps.

I don't know how Macs work, but I'd say try looking inside the package contents by following nothinggoo's instructions.

By the way, Steam games don't really have DRM. That is, you can install them on any PC as long as you can access Steam.

Except that they have one extra limitation. WoG on Steam can't run without launching Steam, so it always plays the normal version. THe solution is to make a copy of the "original" and put the "custom" one into /steamapps/.

I'm pretty sure that you can play most non-Valve Steam games by themselves. For example I'm pretty sure that all the HIB 5 games are playable by clicking on their .exes.

EDIT: Confirmed with Bastion, Braid, Psychonauts, and Super Meat Boy. I see no reason why WoG wouldn't work.

Huh. I thought I remembered a thread about this from a while ago, but I must be mistaken.

Ok, nothinggoo's solution didn't work, but did tell me exactly what the problem is. The contents in the MacOS file only have a short file with instructions to run steam. So it looks like now it's a matter of figuring out where the program actually is on my computer and making it not run with steam. I can only find the .app file, so I'll have to see if a .dmg (mac equivalent of .exe) is even on my computer. Albino Pokey, I don't understand exactly what you mean by putting a custom version in /steamapps/, could you elaborate?

Thanks for your help!

Hm. So maybe there is some sort of DRM.

I'm not sure where Steam stores its games on a mac, probably in your Library somewhere. If you look in there there should be a folder named something along the lines of "steamapps".

Found it! It's working now. There's another file in that path that looks exactly the same as the shortcuts, but actually is the real deal. Yay!

Glad it worked for you. Guess the convenience of Macs can be a bit annoying sometimes Tongue

Dont say so! Macs are always easy to use! Anyways, glad the you figured it out.

I've always found the UI sorely lacking in advanced settings, personally. But I haven't used Macs much.

But anyhoo, is GooTool working ok for you now, thesignpainter1024? If so, we can lock this thread before it becomes a Mac vs. [insert favorite OS here] debate thread. Tongue

In that case, make a new forum thread. Don't derail this one. Wink
