I had that problem too. There are 2 solutions:
1) If you're a computer administrator, you can run WooGLE as admin.
2) Make a copy of World of Goo on your desktop, and use that.

Sun, 11/28/2010 - 13:43
Yes... the "root cause" is that your user does not have permissions to create folders and files in the World of Goo folder you have chosen to edit.
Per AP's post above... you can
i) Run as Admin
ii) Add permissions for your user to create / modify / delete files and folders
iii) Create a modded / editing folder somewhere else.. desktop, my docs, another drive (d: or whatever)

Thank you so much!
But, uh, . . .How do you do that?
-Slighlty confused, MOM
If a house that weighs 100 pounds (it's a small house) has five birds inside it and the birds start hovering in the house, does the house still weigh 100 pounds?.
Sun, 11/28/2010 - 15:01
Hey, nice name.
Anyhow, to do the above:
for i) you can right-click your desktop shortcut (I assume you have one) and choose "Run as Administrator"
iii) Block copy all your files inside your WorldOfGoo folder (like C:\Program Files\World of Goo, but it will vary depending on where you got WOG from) all someplace, such as your Documents folder.
ii) I honestly don't know myself.

Ok, so you probably should copy your patched WOG someplace where you can find it, and run the editor off that copy. (If you mess something up in your installation directory, that wouldn't be too good, so a copy is best to work on)

As an alternate way to play your levels than what TM13 suggested, you ought to be able to open them in the editor and press the purple Play button up top.

If you minimize the window there should be a black screen with white type.
The 4 child elements thing means you haven't typed in addin details yet. Click the ADDIN tab.

If you already requested that it be published, the mods should see it soon and publish it.
Also, if you just want to play the level, you can just double-click the goomod.

1. How do I double-click it?
2. Do I need a picture?
3. How do I upload my .goomod file, I don't think I did, but I made the little page.
4. Maybe looking at my profile, clicking on the level, and taking a look at the situation would help.
5. This is what it says:
This package is not yet published and is unavailable to the public. However you can continue to edit it, arrange the screenshots, and upload files prior to publication.
You must upload at least one file before you can publish this addin.

1. Click it twice, quickly.

2. No, but it's nice.
3. Go to the Downloads tab and click Upload a New File.
4. Only mods can do that.
5. That means you need to upload the goomod.

Fri, 12/03/2010 - 19:37
Yeah, I think the mods do want a photo. It's simple to make. Pop open your level and press the Prt Sc (printscreen) key. Open Paint, Choose the Edit menu->Paste (or Control+V) and save it. Upload the image to your level's page.
To upload your addin, you need to go to the "Downloads" tab in the middle of the page and click it. There should be a link there that says "Upload a new file". Click that and upload the .goomod that you created.

Alright, I'm having so much fun with the level editor thanks to you guys.
Although I still have some questions, if you want to answer them:
1. How do I get things to spin?
2. What tag allows you to explode something?
3. I can't find the folder that has the pictures like the signposts and pipes. Do you know where it is?
4. How do you make the level bigger than that square it starts out with?
5. How do you take a screenshot, and where and how do you upload it?
6. What do the tags do? I don't know what the different ones do.
7. What are the geom things and how are they different from the normal squares and circles?
If you can answer them, thank you SO much. If you can't it's fine.
Sorry for being the person with the most questions.
I appreciate all you guys have done for me! I really love this program!
-Thanks!

Thu, 01/13/2011 - 23:35
Hey DaB, haven't spoken to you in a while, but I still use your program excessively.
Anyway, I found a neat little bug. It's not really a bug as much as something that could be improved. When editing a text string on a level, with the mini-window that opens for text-editing, when you change the text and click "cancel," the edit will still be saved.
Fri, 01/14/2011 - 18:19
Also, saving while in a property field causes a weird bug: the text box and everything are still there but the element is deselected, so you need to reselect it or else it glitches.

Ok, not exactly certain what the problem is here, since I'm a new(ish)bie to Linux.
When executing launch.sh from the terminal, I get a traceback error:
File "src/wogeditor.py", line 27, in
import wogfile
File "/home/..../wogfile.py", line 2
from Crypto.Cipher import AES
ImportError: No module named Crypto.Cipher
I've tried installing the .deb either, with no results. Any ideas? Running Kubuntu 10.10

@MOM4Evr: I think the program didn't import correctly. Get DaB's help on this.
Wed, 02/02/2011 - 05:46
@MOM4Evr
Well.. what's missing is the pyCrypto Library.
The .deb does declare python-qt4 as a dependancy, but nothing else... maybe pyCrypto needs adding.
If you've got the "src" version, check the 3rd_Party_Linux text file, it gives info / links for all the dependancies.
Looks like it might be available from the repository, can't say for sure though, there's a link if it's not.
What we're (apparently) missing for Linux is a complete, 100% stand-alone, no complications "installer".
I built one for Windows, davidc built one for Mac...
I thought the .deb was... but apparently not...
If you get it working, maybe you could have go!
Mon, 02/07/2011 - 02:33
what do you type in for text edit?
Tue, 02/08/2011 - 18:49
It would be awesome if:
A) if it were launchable from a USB using something AP mentioned... like reg.txt or something? because it ran off of the comps registry
B) if there was a "special select all goo balls" and "select all goo balls" feature
Fri, 02/11/2011 - 19:24
and it would be cool if it could make chapters
but that is not possible......
get my first theme here:
http://goofans.com/download/theme/ivygreen
it is called ivygreen
"SAVE THE WHALES
COLLECT THE WHOLE SET!"
Sat, 02/12/2011 - 01:27
@AB: Actually, that is possible. All it requires is a tiny bit of manual labor on the side.
Tue, 02/22/2011 - 18:26
Wow, took me long enough to give it another try.
As far as I know, a single, stand-alone package is not possible for Linux, since you have to build the pyCrypto library from source. Doing so is easy, however (fortunately for me!). I don't think there's any pyCrypto in the repositories. I tried installing a package that sounded like it, but it didn't work.
To build it from source, you'll need the python-dev library.
Anyways, to cut to the chase, here's what all you have to do. Maybe this should be documented someplace for reference (Although I imagine most Linux users can figure it all out anyhow):
Step 1: Install python-dev
Just one standard terminal command. Simple enough (alternatively you can use a package manager to install python-dev).
Step 2: compile pyCrypto from source and install it
Download the source .tar.gz from http://www.amk.ca/python/code/crypto.html (the site that's linked to in the 3RD_PARTY_linux text file).
Then, unzip the tarball and navigate to that folder in a terminal. Next, a few simple commands, taken directly from their readme:
Step 3: Run the thing!
Installing the .deb is nice and easy, but if it doesn't seem to work out, running it from source isn't hard either, just download the source, unzip, navigate to the folder, and pop open a terminal:
Seems to me that launch.sh only likes being run from a terminal, but as I said before, the .deb works fine.
Hope this helps for anyone else having trouble (yeah, there might not be anyone else, but in case there ever is...).
All of the above applies to WooBLE, too, except that since there is no .deb, you have to run it from source. No problem, though.
And could you please release the source to WooVIE as well, so that can be run in Linux? Pretty please?

Ok, heads up all you Goo-d people! I decided, just for laughs, I'd try and see if my Noodleheaded brain can manage to create a level!

I do have one question: Are you ready? (I know I'm not! Man I hope I don't give up on this. I have to try...)
**sings** "Here I Goo again on my own. Gooing down the only road I've ever known."
Thu, 02/24/2011 - 20:13
I am totally ready! (for what?)
Thu, 02/24/2011 - 20:24
Well right now, nothing! (But I do have an idea for an interesting level, assuming things go as they are supposed to!)

I'm following the video tutorial and it seems something is amiss, or I'm missing something.
I don't see anything to select when I've placed the first image. In the video it shows a drop-down menu appears to select the image, but I get no drop-down menu?
(EDIT: Ok, I bypassed this problem by a simple c/p of the information. Still curious to know why there is no drop-down menu?)
**sings** "Here I Goo again on my own. Gooing down the only road I've ever known."
Thu, 02/24/2011 - 21:15
Ah. You need to add the image RESOURCE first. Click the "add image resource" button at the top.
BTW, found some interesting glitches:
if you have illegal XML commented out in a balls.xml.bin, WooGLE interprets it and doesn't let you use the ball.
Also,
