I was trying to make a Chapter addin, which requires goomodding all of the custom levels for the chapter together. However, when I used WooGLE for it, it only let me put in 1 level (the island map). I added another "level" tag, then it really glitched: it only let me include an OCD and CUTSCENE in the new one, so I borrowed the DIR from the other one. When that happened, all the text fields in the ADDIN tab disappeared and I had to manually delete the addin.xml from the level folder to be able to use WooGLE again.
Has anyone else had this problem?

Ummm... No. I can guess that no one has. In fact, you're one of the few people who have tried to make a chapter addin. And everyone who has tried agrees:
-A chapter .goomod is impossible.
Not that you can't make new chapters, but they'll have to override the old ones, without overriding the level names. This is the idea behind WOG: Far Lands, WOG2: Time for Real, and the upcoming WOG2 project.
Basically, the chapter .xml.bin's are hard-coded to load automatically from WorldOfGoo.exe, and thus new chapters cannot be added. They can be overwritten, but not added.

@Albino Pokey
Looks like I missed something in the original code...
If an attribute is Read-Only it can't be deleted, but also it can't be added from the menu.
I'll make that bit more "flexible" in the next version... however... I'm not sure it'll do what want anyway.
Even if you can / do add extra levels to the addin tree, WooGLE won't include those levels in a goomod, it doesn't work that way... it'll just write those extra bits of info into the addin xml.
I guess it depends what you mean when you say "Chapter Addin"...
Sat, 08/21/2010 - 11:14
What I mean is: make a new map and levels, then change the "map" property in island1.xml.bin so it redirects to the NEW chapter without causing compatibility issues with other goomods. But it still needs to compile the map AND the new levels.

I have a question about how HINGE tags work. In Observatory Observation Station you can detach the telescope, which is hinged to the tower which is hinged to the island. The hinge seems normal... what causes that?

@Those who care about the name too much
Hey... when you write a Goo Ball editor, you can name it! Till then ...
Although I am liking GooBLE!
@AP
Physics Engine Glitch so far as anyone can tell... Hinges aren't 100% solid and they don't like / work well with very large or unbalanced forces.
Sat, 08/21/2010 - 21:21
But why the delay? It seems like the hinges are "stretching" and actually breaking a compositegeom!
Oh, and by the way, why not call the editor something like "Yamako!" or "Gak!" or "Ya-ha-ha!" or something else in 'Goo Ball-ish'?

Why WooGLE rewrites additional ball's files, when it creates a goomod? It's not easier to decrypt files into goomod folder?

Err.. Huh? Sorry don't understand the question... which files?

I think Goosweek means balls.xml.bin and resources.xml.bin.

OK, new problem here. When I make a level with a spinning object that is dynamic (since it HAS to be) WITH a hinge it gives me a warning message that says things like the hinge wasn't even there!! (e.x. (i hate e.g.) "You have made spinning geometry dynamic. It won't be where you think!")

Thu, 08/26/2010 - 10:59
Err... you need to be specific and give us exactly what the message said..
otherwise we won't know what's "wrong".
On the "won't be where you think!" message....
Was going to neatly point you to a link, giving all the info about that, but turns out I've not written it up yet....
Last Line of http://goofans.com/developers/world-of-goo-level-editor/reference-guide/...
There's a bug in the game.
If you have a dynamic compgeom object with rotation NOT set to 0 (that's the initial rotation, not rotation speed or anything) then it doesn't appear in the game where it should.
2DBoy didn't find the bug during testing because ALL of the compgeom objects they made for the original levels used rotation=0.
How far "out" the position is depends on how big the object is and how much rotation you have set. Sometimes it comes out pretty close to where you wanted it, other times it's WAY off.
WooGLE will warn you if you've created that situation, and tell you the object won't be where you think.
The solution is.. set rotation=0 on the compgeom object and then move the children around to get them back to where they should be.
That will
a) Stop WooGLE giving the warning
b) Make sure the game puts the thing where you told it to.
Fri, 08/27/2010 - 06:34
When additional ball is required for level-addin, WooGLE autiomaticaly adds it to a goomod. But balls.xml file inside goomod is not equal to decrypted original file (added something like "Created by WooGLE 0.76", and deleted newline characters).

Hmm...
but I think I've figured out why it might be causing you trouble.
I was about to say "So what!?"
I'll take a look, but it shouldn't be too hard to change that.
Fri, 08/27/2010 - 08:59
@Daft
The message is: "You have made spinning geometry dynamic. It won't be where you think!" when, I forgot to tell you, my composite geometry was in exactly the same place as where I made it. Spinning too. With 500 mass. And, like, 0.001 or something really small on the rotation speed (it was a tumbler thing)
I'm playing Minecraft. My username is theMineMaster2. If you want to see my Cartoony mods updated, then be a Mac user and find a image editing program that isn't confusing for me
Fri, 08/27/2010 - 09:22
Actually it says "rotated"... not "spinning" ... different meanings in English.
Check the rotation attribute.. it's probably set to something small but not 0. Set it to 0 and the message should go away.

Hello guys.
Today I met Daft on the IRC channel and I suggested him some features. Some might have already been asked before, others might not. That's why I just wanted to copy and paste our chat about these features (to keep a track of them).
Me : a file history in the File menu (to quickly open up to 5 rencenlty opened files)
Daft : Already in next version
Me : a way to restrict the move of an element to the X or Z coordinates
Daft : Thought it did that... maybe not... will see
[XDboy's Editor's note: It does! Press Ctrl while dragging.]
Me : a button to hide/unhide the selected element
Daft : At the moment you can hide by "type" ... hiding individual elements may be "problematic" but I'll look into it
Me : a custom key (CTRL for example) to select multiple elements and move them all at once
Daft : Needs Investigation.. it's been mentioned a few times, and there's a few bits in Nitrozark's orignial code already to do with it, but mostly if (More than one thing selected) Then Don't do this 'cos it won't work!
Me : when we set a color attribute for water (for example), it's in RGB, alpha format, right ? Couldn't we have a small square on the same line, clicking on it would let the user pick a color from a colortable.. Something like that : http://software.visicommedia.com/images/en/products/acehtml/captures/sur...
Daft : Look like its A,R,G,B ... and maybe... looked into it a while ago, but couldn't make it work right with QT's standard ColourDialog (which also doesn't have alpha). But you should see a status bar message as your typing saying.... "Must be in the form.. ARGB".. do you see that?
Me : i haven't noticed it earlier. sorry

Why can't you make a chapter addin? It just doesn't make sense... It seems that all that you have to do is a) clone a island "level" b) change it to what you want it to be c) clone the mapworldview d) add your island6 button WITH TEXT e) DO NOT TEST the island through woogle that will cause weird glitches f) make your goomod by putting the .bin files in such a way so that they are in the override folder and will change the .bin files of mapworldview g) test your chapter through GooTool this is step h but I don't want the smiley) (
) change things around until it works or looks like you want it i) you are done*
*This has not been tested yet

Think: Why would we do that if we might get a cheater badge, corrupt the game, or not have the supplies to test it? You must wait for goo2. Once it comes out, we will have a full-fledged tutorial on how we did it. Besides, I think we should put it in Chapter 1, so that we can have some bigger chance it will work.

I've made Chapter 1 of World of Goo-Another Planet and am going to goomod it once I find a way to get the cutscene to work. It doesn't seem like cheating, seeing as you can't collect Goo Balls or anything in MapWorldView. I'm not quite sure why you aren't allowed to save it like you can with the islands. It seems like the island6 in the onclick should work (it's in the exe), but I haven't tested it yet. I did corrupt the game once by deleting the wogc button, but I fixed it by copying over the .bins from my "unmodded" folder.

"It seems like the island6 in the onclick should work (it's in the exe), but I haven't tested it yet"
I've spent many hours testing it and it doesn't work. Something is blocking it in the .exe code.

Have you looked in the EXE itself? I just did and found a few references to island6...when I edited them the game crashed.
What I did was I typed "island6" right after "island1 island2 island3 island4 island5" and it said that the program wasn't compatible with DOS when I tried to run it.

It might be because island6 is actually classified as the WoG Corp. If you take a look at the MapWorldView, If you see island 6, it's the WoG Corp. If I'm mistaken, then It should be that weird Island 5 in the corner pretending to be and island 6.

What is new SLIDER element in scene?
"Something like hinge"? No... It's like a strand between geometries....
I have done some tests with it, but it works realy strange... It wants to keep geometries parallel... or what? When one object rotates, the other rotates too but sometimes shakes, jumps... (I think I know why it is unused in original WoG.)
axis looks similar to normal of line, that makes a connection between objects.
What are additional parameters stopcfm and stoperp?
Or... noone knows yet...

No, the World of Goo Corporation button says "wogc", it's the moon one that says "island6" for onclick. There are also text references in text.xml.bin.

You want to reameke WoG's code and allow chapter 6?
Author of Platforms of Goo and 64 levels for World of Goo .
Sat, 08/28/2010 - 10:24
@Albino Pokey and @Goosweek
Well, this isn't a Island6 thread so we should stop after this
You can't remake or edit WoG because it is specially encoded, it's not open source, it is closed. Basically you can look but you can not touch. That why your program wasn't compatible with DOS.

If any text has appeared in there, can you post it here... Thanks.

I recently found my old "Goonation" level. (The one that was mentioned in Enchanter;s tutorial) A long while ago I said that it had a weird glitch in it After I edited it, and After using it in the World of goo Editor 77 RC2, the problem wasn't there! It disappeared some how! Any idea why?

Hello Daft.
Here is another feature request that I think useful :
mockup image:
http://img62.imageshack.us/img62/6065/screenshot001er.png
The idea is to filter levels in the "open file" dialog, to
1. show all levels, no filter
2. show only original WoG levels
3. show only fan-made levels
This way, it would be so much easier for developers like us to find a level.

From time to time, WooGLE (and WooBLE too) crashes.
But I don't even have the time to read the error message in the DOS command window because it's closed too quickly.
So, I made this BAT file :
I really think (since there is a DOS command window in the background) that the shortcut created during installation on the desktop should be a shortcut to this batch file. This way, (with the "pause" DOS command) the user of WooGLE could clearly read error messages in this DOS command window.
Because this is the error message I often get :
System infos : Windows7 64bits, WooGLE 0.77 final
I hope it helps.

@AP
Yeah it's actually tilecountx and tilecounty but that should be pretty obvious when you're in the software...
As to pulse... try it and see (it can only be set to true or false) so it shouldn't take you long to find out what it does!
@xanax
That's odd.. for me the console window usually remains with the error in it... long after the error occured... so no need for the bat.
But useful to know that for the future... thanks!
As to that particular problem...
One of your {ballname}\resources.xml.bin files has a "dodgy" <SetDefaults> tag.. looks like it is missing the path attribute.
A quick tweak to WooGLE and WooBLE will sort that out, and prevent the error, but now I'm wondering if I should "catch" the problem and warn you about it.. maybe offer to fix it... Hmm.
