I have been trying to do this and I finally got it to compile, but i cannot change the wog file… obviously. IM SUCH AN IDIOT ! Now i know enough of QT to understand how it works, but i have absolutly zero knowledge of python. Soooo…… ya ^^ I'll try to mess with it until it works. Oh, and if the creator of this app explain me how it really works, cuz I NEVER TESTED IT ! So i have absolutly no idea what does he need to change /P
EDIT : i got the folder the files are, now i just need to understand how to change the string, and it should work a little better ^^.

@robabla
I presume you're talking about getting it to run on MAC...
I presume the file structure is the same on MAC as it is on PC and Linux
It needs to know the path/location and name of the World of Goo program file.
It uses this for 2 things...
i) Finding all the level and resource files {Game Folder}/res
ii) Running the Game when you click "Save and Play"
In wogeditor.py
This shows a "standard" File Open box for whatever OS you are using.
In Windows the program file is WorldofGoo.exe, on Linux it's WorldofGoo.bin
So it shows only files called WorldOfGoo.* which works for both.
What is the file called on MAC?
You could change this line so it will show the MAC name..
or...
Maybe I can change it so it will work on all 3 OS's?

I learned two things today about WooGLE:
1. If you set a rectangles width or length to 10000000, it crashes WooGLE (most of the time).
2. Never to do (1)...

MAJOR PROBLEM!!!!! NEED SOME WAY TO CREATE CAMERA CHILDREN OR MAKE THEM UNDELETEABLE!!!!!!
I'm playing Minecraft. My username is theMineMaster2. If you want to see my Cartoony mods updated, then be a Mac user and find a image editing program that isn't confusing for me

You can right click on the "Level" in the levels tab (at the top) and select "Create camera children".
And there is such a thing as the "Undo" button. It's Ctrl+Z (no plus).

Hey guys, hey Daft as Brush.
I just tried WooGLE 0.74 (on Vista x64), but unfortunatly it crashes.
when i just doubleclick the .exe, there's briefly a command line window visible, but then it kills itself.
when i right click the .exe and "run as admin", it asks for WorldofGoo(.exe) in the modded directory, but after that it still crashes.
(wogedits process in the task manager also disappears instantly)
I tried installing it in different locations, but it doesn't change the behaviour.
hm, maybe it has to do with the location of my modded WoG directory. which is "C:\Users\*myusername*\Documents\WoGooTooled"
if i choose the real WoG directory (in "Program Files(x86)"), WooGLE opens! yay!
but obviously i don't want to use the real installation, so i moved "WoGooTooled" to "C:\Users\Public". Guess what? it crashes there too.
copied it to "C:\WoGooTooled". still no success.
so, it isn't the location, right? something must be wrong in my modded WoG,
but on the other hand, nitroZarks version of WogEditor runs ok with it... (without the need to start it as admin)
if i choose the original WoG directory to start WooGLE, and then change it to one of the "WoGooTooled" dirs, this is what WooGLE has to say:
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "wogeditor.py", line 1881, in changeWOGDir
File "wogeditor.py", line 1885, in _reloadGameModel
File "wogeditor.py", line 268, in __init__
File "wogeditor.py", line 415, in _loadBalls
NameError: global name 'ball' is not defined
any ideas whats wrong?

I do now!!... thanks!
Looks like it's a typo in one of the error traps...
But I'm not seeing the "failure" here because my system doesn't have the problem.
The problem appears to be a Duplicate ball in your "tooled" folder
The balls.xml and resources.xml store the "name" of the ball, all the original balls had exactly the same name in the xml as the name of the folder... however once folk started making their own balls sometimes they'll copy the files to a new folder name, but then not change the name within the xml.
To prevent untold problems elsewhere, WooGLE now scans the names out of all the balls.xml files at startup and (should) flag if you've got any duplicates....
Only there's an error in the code when it tries to alert you... RATS!
Also explains why it works fine with your "original" folder... no duplicates.
As it stands it'll be tough for you to tell which ball is causing the trouble... unless you've got any ideas.
I'll release a new version 'soon'... which fixes the problem in the error trap, so it can tell you where the problem is, without crashing.
Wed, 08/04/2010 - 10:33
all right. thanks for explaining. glad i could help. (...making the final version not so final...)

will take a look at the balls now.

Daft as Brush:
i downloaded a new level, installed it with gootool, and since i moved the old WoGooTooled dir, GooTool created a new one, with a fresh copy of WoG, and the new level.
when i then started WooGLE with that dir, it opens without errors. so i guess that's the confirmation of what you said above.^^

For some reason, in a level I am making the black background seems to have a glitch because I put in a background and some geometry with pics and THE FREAKIN BLACK BACKGROUND COVERED THEM ALL!!!!!!! (and I thought that the black background was supposed to be infinitely BEHIND everything it even went over the sign only the sign FX and goos were visible) NOTE: This can only be seen in the level editor's PLAY mode.
P.S. I also had the "duplicate ball glitch" problem. Good thing I looked at the comments or else I would never found why the program was instantly closing without a warning message i even tried uninstalling and reinstalling and my friend (the other guy on this account) actually thought it was a virus.
P.S.S. Do you think that you could make a ball editor???? I mean that you created an AWESOME level editor and a level editor is so complex so a ball editor should be easy peasy compared to the level editor
P.S.S.S. I think that you should make a "Create a Camera Child" button on the interface as most people wont think about right clicking the "Level" element in the Level tree (ex. ME) and that LOTS of people probably accidentally delete the cameras (ex. ME)Also, add a "level error check" that will make sure that you have AT LEAST ONE widescreen camera and AT LEAST ONE normal camera

Did you send the background's depth to be -100 or something like that? Then it would be behind everything. Also, The camera children button probably wasn't made because not many people use the function as much as others i.e. the "Add common ball" function is used more.
InfernoFans | Chest full of porkchops
Wed, 08/04/2010 - 15:58
Yes I put the background at -100 but I have done that before and I did not see a black background then. As a matter of fact my first level (Pixel Trouble) has a background depth of -100 (at least I think it is) Also for the "spam" (which is the name of the pics that the geometry have)there is no depth thing which means it should be in front like the goos but yet it is still hidden by blackness

@XDboy
So you seemed to have a problem with the level editor and decided to make another "modded" World of Goo. However all you really had to do is go into the gootool addins folder and enter the res file then check the balls and every other folder for duplicates and delete the duplicates. Then it should work with the old directory. Also you can search for the duplicate ball by simply making sure that no files are named "copy of ___ ball" or instead look in the ball XML. The XML part should only be used if you have been making your own balls and if you have changed the name of the folder of the duplicate then simply check the pics and if the pics are the same as another ball then you may have found your duplicate!!

thanks for trying to help me, but i knew that.
and no, i didn't decide to make a new modded WoG, GooTool decided to do that.

If people have been paying attention to the conversation, or they have looked at the instructions, or they have been wondering where it is, right clicks the "Level" tab, and finds it, then we have nothing to worry about.

@GooMasters and James
I think you both have good points.....
Right-Clicking the Tree Roots is not the most obvious thing in the world.
Back in the day when I started improving the editor (April).. it was the ONLY way you could add anything. I added toolbars so you could add the "common" stuff much more easily.
May be it needs a hint or a label saying... "Can't find how to add something.. try right-clicking here".
I would think the "Undo" facility should be quite obvious to most people... it's not like it's just the keyboard shortcut... there's also the standard menu items for Undo and Redo and toolbar buttons...
Thu, 08/05/2010 - 03:54
I'm used to version 71 and have now downloaded 76 and I don't know what dependance is...
Always have at least 3 levels in the work shop (Woogle)!
Thu, 08/05/2010 - 07:48
Dependency shows what kind of stuff is needed by your level.
It might depend on certain images, goo balls, particle fx, sounds... maybe even other goomods.
The balls the level depends on will in turn depend on images, sounds, and maybe particles themself. Particles will depend on images. And so on. What depends on what is shown as a "tree".
But as long as everything is ok in your level, you won't have to care about it.

I think that you should make a text folder and let people access it by pressing "Cant find something?" in the Help tab. The text folder will tell people where to find all of the elements that they need.

@Goosweek
I saw this problem, but I thought it was "just me" when I was changing things for the Mac version... looks like it can affect anyone.
Will figure out a software fix... but for me the solution was...
Close WooGLE
Run Regedit
Find HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\WoGCorp\Wog Editor\Main Window\wog_path
I think you will see the value has / in the path not \
Edit the entry, change all / to \
Let me know if that fixes it! Thanks

Hey, Daft, my friend here says that after he downloaded and installed your level editor that the application configuration wasn't correct and so crashed. He is using XP. Besides, you deleted that very important patch from the downloads screen (windows patch for v0.66 and up). Do you think that you could undelete it and put on the info screen (to the left of the screenshot) that people using Windows need to install that patch?

Thanks for fixing that, but then there is a problem with the signs. Every now and then on modded levels, the Text for signs goes missing. They just disappear for no reason. But they still appear in the level when launched through modded World Of Goo. If they still don't appear, but they should, then the Sign doesn't show any text when clicked. Why is this?
InfernoFans | Chest full of porkchops
Wed, 08/11/2010 - 17:18
I know that the text disapears when you deactivated the goomods via GooTool, is that the reason?

I can think of one way you could make the sign text disappear on an active mod in the game...
It would go something like...
Run WooGLE, load a level
Switch to GooTool, install a new level, and hit Save
Switch back to WooGLE, Save and Play whatever level you'd loaded
Then run the modded WoG exe directly (not through GooTool) and play the newly installed level.
This would make the signs on the new level have no text, because WooGLE assumes that the Global Text files doesn't change while it's running and writes out the version it has in memory when you Play.
Edit: Fixed in next version...
Edit2: Out Now!!
Thu, 08/12/2010 - 08:57
"Edit: Fixed in next version...
Edit2: Out Now!!"
you're fast!^^
one thing:
when you have a rectangle with an image, i noticed that the editor moves both, if the imageposition is empty, but only one of them, if an imageposition is set.
is there a mode hidden that moves both, even with an imagepos?
and if not, can you include one (maybe shift+click or alt+click)in the next version?
or normal drag = move both, +alt = move image, +shift= move geometry.

Dab, i know it might seem like a pain to request something right after releasing a new version but if you are going to release a new woogle sometime in the distant future than could you please include a 256x256 icon
i know you said that it drastically increases the file size but windows wont display the 128x128 icon unless there is a 256x256 icon as well
Fri, 08/20/2010 - 07:18
Hey, Daft, maybe it would be a good idea to let Goosweek know that most of his sign text is missing (in the Experimental Levels) I mean like 1 out of 10 signs have text there.
Okay, so here is the real reason why I am commenting here. I was trying to make a mod where the wogc3d level (My World Of Goo Corporation) replaces the wogcd (world of goo corporation destroyed) but, mysteriously, when I loaded the level for editing/cloning, the whole level screen was EMPTY! All of those recources were there but the level was gone and it couldn't be cloned!!!! could you please look this up and NO i was not editing official WoG levels from the original directory.

Looks like a problem with the new "Line checking" routines and the fact that wogc levels are missing most of the scenebounds attributes.
Will fix in the next version of WooGLE (but can't say when that will be)...
So if you're desperate to do this... you can get around it by...
Decrypt the .scene.bin for the level you want to clone
Edit it and add minx="-10000" maxx="10000" maxy="10000" into the <scene tag.
Save it, Encrypt it and then try loading into WooGLE.
Should work...
But you will also need to remove those extra attributes once you've finished.

It's WooBLE not WooGBE. While WoGBE would make a bit more sense as an abbr., WooGLE and WooBLE sound nicer. (also it's a play on a giant corporations name. which I think is a total Goo-y thing to do^^)
