Hey all,

I have been very, VERY inactive for quite a while. No goomods, nothing. Not even posts. That is the result of education.

And I am not talking about school. Actionscript 3 and Photoshop CS5 have kept me very busy, as well as Fruityloops studio (though I work mostly on the first two).

After a few weeks of learning, I plan to start creating my first game around September, as I get more artwork done.

Also, I suggest a part of forums where you can upload Images for other people to use in goomods.

Cheers,

Dowitz (not Howitz anymore).

Sup. Good to see you! Smile

Anyway, that's great. It's always nice to see people taking an interest in game development.

As for the forum idea, can't you just upload the images to a host site and link them?

On the 2D Boy forums, regular users had a lot more power than on here. They could upload images, for one. But on here you need to be on the NotWog2 team.

EDIT:What I'm trying to say is that the image uploading forum would have to be in the NotWOg2 forums. Does one like that already exist?

Howdy, welcome back. If you need any tips or whatever for AS3 I may be able to help. (I already said this in another thread, but you might not have seen it.)

I haven't made a game yet, but I have heaps of ideas and I'm eager to start. I'm not sure if "a few weeks" is good enough to already start on a whole game, but that's just my opinion. You may be a faster learner than me.

It really depends on what kind of game you're trying to create. Wink

If it's text-based, you could learn all you need to know in a few days, and them some. Otherwise, graphic libraries are usually pretty common. If it's in C++ then Allegro is what most people tend to lean towards.

Duh, I'm not sure. Can the NotWOG2 team upload images? I didn't ever really try.

In fact, I'm not sure I'm even able to upload images. Never really tried.

Hmm, nope, don't seem to work. At least linking to images don't work for me, like Daft and XDBoy did here: http://goofans.com/forum/goofans/general-discussion/1716

And welcome back to the forums, by the way!

Using Firebug on that page gives me <img src="http://img269.imageshack.us/img269/1016/evilbaby.jpg"> from XDBoy's comment.

Well, yah. you can quote him theres and see that too. Use Firebug on my first post too, and tell me if I did something wrong. Wink

David mentioned in the blog post about the NotWog2 team moving that they could ftp images onto the server.

No idea. Laughing out loud

Never mind. Anyway, I think that the images forum is a good idea. I might host a page like that on my Another Planet web page.

Right now I'm looking for a hosting provider. Webs emailed me saying that I needed to pay them $100 if I wanted to continue my free hosting on their server. Puzzled

Webs? As in Formerly Freewebs?

No wonder they removed the "free".

Have a look at Google Sites. Pretty much like Webs, however it doesn't have a forum feature (as far as I know anyway).

lolwut. Yea it does.

It does?!?

*rushes to Google Sites to check it out*

*comes back*

Well, where then? You do realise that I meant an integrated forum like Webs had, not the ability to embed forums?

Can you choose to create a site in HTML-only mode like on Webs?

I'll check it out.

I don't think you can. You can insert HTML in text fields and such, but I don't think there's an option to edit the entire page's source.

i have a question for Howitz:
About what will be your first game??

Hey You!

Actually, you can upload html files and such and choose the location for the file on your site. You can then map it to something like /blah instead of /blah.html

After that, just link to it.

As for forums, I'll go check it out. I think there are forum template options to choose from.

I plan to make some kind of Platformer beat-em-up. Of course, it won't be that simple. Or what you expect.

A "few weeks" is enough to get something walking around and attacking static objects. It will probably take months to get the artwork and Actionscript down. I don't plan on making a huge, enormous game. Maybe a couple levels and a simple inventory with few items and enemies, like a demo. Then from there I can build onto it.

Here is what I have got down in Flash so far, my first and second piece of work (school is keeping me busy):

@Howitz Wow! You are incredibly good at art! While I may not understand your concepts, I'd love to work with your artsy-ness. My ideas are a bit over-the-top, and without good ideas, there's no point in me working on such. Email me if you're interested. (nick@redthegreen.com)

Edit: By that I meant I want to hear your ideas. Wink

lol thanks! they are the first of many.

I would actually like to hear your ideas, if they are over-the-top. Get one together for a 2D style game (since I am using Flash) and maybe Puggsoy can help a little. You can email me at (Howitzas@gmail.com). My ideas....hmmm.... I would like to see what you have first.
I don't plan on making anything serious, however. I go to college in a year for Game Art and Production, or as its official term, "interactive media". Perhaps then I will continue what I started or start making serious games from there on.

Kay I emailed you.

No what I actually meant was...*garble*

I'm currently learning tons about using SDL ever since MOM4Evr introduced it to me via his game. I looked it up and it's a lot easier than some other C++ media libraries I've tried. What I had actually wanted to say (originally) is that your art/ideas may get me programming, but whatever.

Wow Howitz, that's great art. I would ask you if you would like to do art for my games, but since you're making your own I can hardly imagine you'd agree.

Anyway, if you need any help (which you hinted to with "maybe Puggsoy can help a little") just email me at puggsoy@gmail.com.

But I won't share too many ideas, if that's what you're hoping. Those are my own Laughing out loud

@RedTheGreen: Actually, if you figure out how you get OpenGL working with SDL, could you point me to the tutorials/wikis you use? Thanks.
